I can’t believe it!! I bought a new CDI, alarm, regulator, coil, and Stator, and still did NOT work, then I put the old CDI box in the oven for 10 min and it worked!! The spark came right back!!! I can’t believe it!!!!! I was working on this this quad for weeks trying to solve the puzzle!! Thank u
Hi Chase, interesting tip on the CDI unit. Here in Ireland thay are only available new from Honda, at a price of about 300 Euro! Just one question, I assume you are talking 265 degrees Fahrenheit, as 260 Celsius would probably leave you with a puddle of plastic... :D
I tried this with my 91 300 an the oven tricked worked! it’s still running strong. It sat from 2011-2019 an it would run an die an then wouldn’t start an barley idle. This worked great! Blew my mind but makes perfect sense. Gotta dry inside out. 265* for ten min, turn off oven an open door for 5 min an take it out an let cool to room temp.
It's almost always the REVERSE SWITCH on the lower right side of the engine, behind a black plate, next to the brake pedal. There are 2 switches there. The one toward the back of the quad is the reverse switch. Replace it or clean it.
Will the temp sensor cause the indicaror light to not come on when u 1st turn the key on and no spark...it acted like I was running out of gas and just quit now it has no spark but neutral and reverse lights will work...ty
R u on the Honda atv or Honda trx forums? Need some more '90 fourtrax owners on there. I'm just now starting to refurbish mine. It runs but it in needs a TLC retreat.
265° on multi layers of tinfoil in the oven for 10 minute worked. After 10 minutes I pulled out the cdi and set it on the stove to cool for at least 20 minute. plugged it in and I had spark. Thanks for the tip!
I put mine cdi 2 inches away from a 1500 watt blow dryer for 15 minutes, rotating it every couple minutes. It freaking worked perfect.....now im still ordering a new one but dang im so happy to know what it was.....thanks to awesome folks like this guy.
@@brentmoreau9078 I've always tested for resistance between the spark lead and pos and neg connections. If the resistance is equal on each side, then the coil is usually good.
Great vid , got my 1988 trx300 sparking in no time at all . Does yall knowing how long this thing will last after cookin in the oven? Kinda not too caring bout puttin all together if that old CDI wont be willing to last now ?You thinkin what im thinkin here bout buying me a new one for the old gal, now that i found the problem with your expertise , be grateful for yall advice on how long that cooked CDI might last me?
I have a 1995 300 quad ran great before and now took battery off in process of restoring it and went to put battery back in and when go to hook up cables it wants to spark and crank over with key off
I'm sorry this has been so many years ago. I don't really recall. I feel like it had some sort of zip tie or strap tied around the box, but I could not get it out without removing the fenders
I did exactly what you said about the cdi box and it runs great now thanks for the help. I put a brand new coil on mine but when it started it ran bad at first tnen didnt start untill i watched yer video. Thanks once again for the help best wishes.
