Honda 400EX | Motor blown / 440cc Big Bore Kit Motor Rebuild | Part 1 of 2 

That's "old piece of rubber from a tire or something holding the battery in " is factory honda. Those are pretty rare to find on a 400ex today.

The bug-eyed 400EX was the best years they made they just don't make them like they used to I'm more of a two-stroke person but that's one of my favorites four-stroke quads ever made🤙💪‼️

i`m 51 and i used to ride a quad back in the mid 80`s one quad so underestimated for running all day without a refuel and that quad is the 1986? 230 quadrunner i do know it was a year that had reverse.

I used to have an 01 400ex, Big 3 mod only. Now that Honda was Super Reliable🤌🏻stock gearing hit 58-60, had it for 3-4 years, only cleaned carb/replaced 1 battery and oil changes. Im not saying its the best in the world since its heavier and slower than other 400’s but a properly running 400 will never fail you (MotorWise)

We have a 2004 trx 300ex and before when you would give it 1/2-3/4 throttle it would hit the limiter like if timeing was off. Found out it was the neutral safety switch reverse switch, located in the front near the dash and the sensor looks like a spark plug

Ive still got my 04 400ex. Its still stock bore, but i dont think theres a bolt on it that hasnt been turned in the 13 years i have had it. its got its 3rd top end on it, a slew of electronic components (Gotta stick with oem boys) and i recently bought a new wiring harness and some new calipers and reservoirs that i have yet to put on the old girl. Pulls hard, rides great. Has a set of stickered up aftermarket plastics on it, but ive got the oem red ones i keep around in case i want to sell it (Which i wont) but yeah, the 400s are easy to work on, parts are everywhere, hell donor bikes are cheap these days even if you need a frame or a whole front end or rear sub. Still not a bad buy though for what you paid for it. Its not too bad. Once you put the oem parts back on it and probably a new harness it'll be a tough old bird. Lucky to find one with the airbox lid, every one i see these days is either missing it, or has a bunch of holes in them. Ive been thinking about an aluminum box with battery relocation, seems to be the way to go these days.

Ive charged my batteries for the last decade on the Battery Tender Jr 800, Revives dead batteries or batteries that have been sitting.i only use gel batteries tho, no water. Having a carb yfz for the past 6-7years, its always started up first or second crank. Of course Perfect jetting also helps

I just bought a 2001 400 ex with the 440 Big bore kit and supposedly the needle is stuck in the carb, how do I get it unstuck without taking it apart??

Just don't raise rev limiter . Kills these motors fast. Motor Balance issue..harmonics....I raced mx of 10yrs on a 400ex...many rebuilds...lessons learned
