I had the chance to ride Honda Africa Twin for a longer period of time and I really enjoyed. I also thought that my friend Goran's opinion might be very useful for you.

It's nice to see bikes with long milage. Where i live i see a bunch of GS1200 with years of age and 10k 20k... It's just ridiculous. I use my bike everyday and do about 10k per year easily.

I sold my 660 tenere for buying an new Africa Twin last year. I ve rode about 5000 km since then, I rally love it. I have manual one, but no need DCT cause, torque is awesome. Gear shift is so smooth, seat is confortable especially tandem rides. Suspention is quite enough both on and offroads, I use high (54 cm) wind shield, trips became more confortable, some times my visor opened during rides, there is no wind sound. I am so happy with my AT, Thanks Japanese engineers, Thanks Honda...

Nice one, I bought my 20 16 africa twin 1000 dct last Feb, 2 weeks before the corona virus lock down. I absolutely love this bike, though the only riding I do is back and farward to work. I'm 64 had a few bikes in my time, love them all but this bike is just fantastic. I'm a mature sensible rider, don't find the need to go fast anymore. Used to do a lot of touring with my wife on the back, but now I don't enjoy my wife on the back any more. Too much to worry about. I do all my own servicing always have since I was 15, always will this bike is very easy to service and keep on top of things can't wait till we can travel again will pack my bags and go away for a few weeks on my own. Just love this bike if I had the choice again I will still buy the africa twin.

My 2016 DCT has now 26.000km. I rode small roads, solo, duo, fully loaded, I rode off-road with TKC80tyres, it was easy ! I added SW Motech crashbars and skid plate which proved really efficient. Added larger/lower pegs for stand up riding, setting the bar slightly forward . I agree with you that 30kg less would make it perfect. I used to ride 180hp sports bike on speed track, but 95hp on road is enough, and more than enough off-road. The high torque at low rev together with a very smooth and linear power delivery is perfect off and on-road. Wandering if the Yamaha T700 could be better? May be off-road but certainly not in duo trip.

Meh, the current Africa twin barely makes 90bhp. So the 850 Africa twin should make about 60 to 70bhp which is close to the 650cc class. Unless they can make it superlight, I don't see any reason to go for it.

I currently ride Honda st1300 which is good for 2up & long distance riding but since selling my ktm400 adventure bike 2yrs ago I really miss just going anywhere, I've always had a soft spot tenere , BMW 1200gs & the Africa twin as you stated they are heavy bikes, when you need to pick up, I truly believe if Honda brought out much lighter bike to compete with ktm & Yamaha about 700 or 800cc they would be a strong competitor because that's the perfect size for us 50yrs plus old blokes pick up.

Good video. The market is still strong for bigger, highly capable bikes. In Australia and the US there are long distances to be covered. Bigger bikes actually make more sense on highways, and are still practical for secondary roads, fire roads and such. Big bikes arel just too heavy to take off road by yourself if you're older or smaller. I'm waiting for that light weight 500CC Africa Twin. I'm going to have to downsize at some point if I'm going to continue to ride into my 60's and beyond.

Same bike as the 2019 but with spoked wheels, tubeless rims, hand guards, skid plate & better suspensions: a future new CB500X Adventure Sports. Lets dream. Honda : please create one! @@trekkydelirium-vroom5821 I agree with you. I have looked at the rally raid 500 too. I hope KTM scares the Japanese manufacturers enough that we can get a premium option on their bikes. Yamaha Tenere 700 is just round the corner and it seems to be an uncomplicated old school awesome adventure machine with awesome off road capabilities.Great Dakar look styling, high ground clearance, low weight, agile, 6speed gearbox, no unnecessary electronics and best of all it all comes at a relatively reasonable price even here in Norway imagine. Honda AT (the legend) is supposed to be a big adventure bike so let it remain the big brother like it always was meant to be and like it always was. Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 is the big brother of the new Tenere 700. Honda has already famous brands and household names like: Goldwing, Africa Twin, Transalp and Vfr. The answer to this new challengenger from Yamaha and is a bike Honda made bulletproof for around 25years good years. Honda bring back a new capable Transalp. AT smaller brother. Its been proved and loved from 1987-2012 all over the world from the arctic to the tropics. A suitable name might be Crf 700L Transalp. Great times ahead for sure The Power Of Dreams.

It's a great bike but for riders who are really into 'adventure' and more than occasional offroad. I rented it for a week in the north of Thailand, and though I liked it a lot, it made me understand that the kind of biking I love is not adventure biking, I missed having more feedback from the front wheel, it's a little bit to high on the road for my taste and I'm not sure I like having so much torque all the time, I find it removes some of the fun. But if you (really) are into adventure and serious offroad, yeah it's the bike for you.

Trying to be objective here, the R1250GS is quoted as being only 6 kg heavier in wet weight and has over 30 Hp more power. For most riders it would be a much better road and easy dirt touring option except for the killer price difference. You can buy a great late model 2nd hand Honda for HALF the price of a new 1250GS. Even the new 700 Yamaha will be similarly cheaper than the BM. Easy to see why the Honda is so popular

Hello Palvin thanks for the opinion of a happy Africa Twin owner. If I could give you a little tip. Since the chassis of the 2018 models has been reworked, you can get the driving feeling, depending on whether you like to drive a neutral tire, the following tires ( Pirelli Scorpoin Rally STR or Continental Trail Attack 2 /3 ). The driving behaviour has changed very much to the positive with me (Africa Twin Adventure Sports), one does not need to push the motorcycle any more in the direction or to balance where one would like to go even pushing the Africa Twin has become easier. In addition I have to say that I have adjusted the chassis to the normal Africa Twin and it fits very well to the overall picture. The standard setting of the Adventure Sports is unfortunately too soft and you have no real feeling for the front tyre. I can only recommend it to every Africa Twin rider to simply mount other tyres. The Dunlop factory tyre is unfortunately not a positive choice for the handling of the machine and to fully exploit the potential of the Africa Twin. Of course, the normal Africa Twin is a lot more agile than the Adventure Sports because it has a shorter leverage with shorter spring travel to the Adventure Sports, so the effect would be even greater. Friendly greetings

I find it interesting how my experiences and feelings are very similar to Goran's in this video. I have a 2017 AT exactly the same colour scheme as Goran's above. I have almost 23 000km on the clock now. I love this bike. I find it very easy to ride. I agree with Goran, it lends itself to more relaxed riding and consequently very good fuel consumption. I easily get over 20km per litre and often around 21.5km/l giving me a good 350-400km range on a tank. I also agree with Goran that the fairing plastics are a bit of a pain. I installed a 12v power outlet in the spot the factory provided for it (but then they decided not to actually install one on the production line) and it was a real faff to get them all back together. Very easy to forget some bolts/nuts and end up with spares then having to take apart again repeatedly to make sure you complete the job without spares left. Tyre wear is also pretty good. I have the standard Dunlops on still. I have about 50% left on the rear tyre and about 30% left on the front. I think this is pretty good life from the tyres. I dont tend to be heavy with the right wrist and this translates to good mileage and good tyre wear. I want to add some crash bars to the bike and to put on more offroad capable tyres because like hima I am not experienced with dirt/offroad riding and I am loathe to drop the bike and damage it. Those plastics can be very dear! Soon I will have those then be much more adventurous in the roads I take. At the moment I am mostly commuting to work and back, a daily round trip of about 100km. I just love puttering past all the traffic as they crawl along in their "parkers convention" on the highways here. So go get one Pavlin. I got mine almost a year old with only 1000km on for the equivalent of about 10K Euro. I couldnt let it go by. Loving it every time I ride.

Had a long trip on Africa Twin 2016, few things I can say, riding position is great, sitting up high and seeing far ahead, plenty of power and torque, relatively comfortable seat, why I say relatively, just keep reading.. Engine noise is great as well, now a bit of critique... For my height 180cm I couldn't put my feet flat on the ground, so wasn't much comfortable, there was some winning noise when I was rapidly hitting the brakes, not sure if this was an issue with that specific bike or if it's normal, couldn't figure, then I could hear som knocking sound either from wheel or from chain, again not sure if that was an issue with tht specific bike or not, during my trip we hit Grossglockner in Austria so ot was end of September and in high mountains it was damn cold, no heated grips was a major drawback for AT, my butt needed a rest every 150-200km, fron suspension is suuuuuper soft, so if you slightly touch the brakes it dives very hard... No center stand in standard... Instrument panel is reflecting a lot so sometimes it's impossible to read it. So anyway having said above it's a great bike, but many refinements had to be done... Now I'll get to the point, I always wanted BMW R1200GS, but it was always out of my budget, plus I have never driven it so I couldn't decide what I want, BMW organized a test drive days and I have tried the R1250GS, and oh my god I loved it, long story short I bought R1200GS, 2015 cost me almos same as 2016-2017 AT. But it hs so many features compared to AT, adaptive electronic suspension, telelever and paralever, cruise control, quickshifter, keyless ride, heaged grips and the seat! Not sure how BMW designed the seat but my bitt never hurts!! I did 700km in one day and 0 issue with fatigue.. Wind protection is awesome, more power compared to AT, driveshaft instead of chain so no regular lubrication required, it's so much better! But hey AT is still one of my favorite bikes! It's more for hard offroad trips like Mongolia and Pamir and Kazakhstan kind of terrain, but for the rest GS is my preference :)
@skandalist0729
@skandalist0729 4 года назад
Don't make me wrong.. I'am glad that you bought your best bike but from now you have to start to pray for failure-free ride. Electronic equipment in GS it's a nightmare and now you can imagine that something went wrong in the middle of nowhere out of civilization. Honda is created to ride without workshop inside your panniers. It's just build very simple and every mechanic can easily fix any problem (only hammer, screwdriver and welder ;-)) I have had both motorcycles and now left only one. Cheers mate.

This would mean Honda must build a complete new engine and everything just for this machine, i doubt it. Normally these middle-weight bikes have shared engines for multiple models but Honda has no 2 cylinder in this range. Otherwise it's just to expensive. The 750cc from the NC Models can't be used because of the weight and his car origin. We also wouldn't have the new Tenere 700 when the best seller MT07 with the CP2 engine not existed.

Without cruise control it’s far to be “a complete bike”...

Cruise control = more cost and more to go wrong. No thanks I will keep my MY17 AT less electrics = less to go wrong.

Since when cruise control go wrong?? I agree that can come with a little extra $ but if it was offer on the Africa twin you will be so happy to have it, I think you come short on excuses..

@@Fab24hdumans two wheels and an engine is all it needs to be a bike, rider modes, cruise control, tft screens and the latest and greatest gadgets and gizmos are they really needed? Or there to put the price up make road side repairs harder, home maintenance more difficult. The reason I ride my AT is to ride. These extra bits are not needed it's just keeping up with the Jones.

The HP is less than it should be , The VStrom XT makes 110 HP, so it's down a bit, and Honda could have formed the frame a bit lighter, which would have shed some weight, it's bit overengineered.
