Honda Aquatrax jetski bypass Code25 fault of knock sensor

Years ago on my Honda Aquatrax F12x turbo jetski I installed a brand new knock sensor when I first got a Code 25 knock sensor fault appear. The fault never went away even after doing the reset and I checked all the electrical connections and wastegate etc but still the Code 25 would happen everytime I rode the jetski and it would 'beep' and then go into limp mode. At the time a new ECU (ECM) was about $1400 so I wasn't going to buy one until I fixed the fault. I got sick of jumping wires across the service check plug to 'pull' the code so I set up an 'ON' and 'OFF' switch in my glovebox area to make it easier. Then one day I thought about 'Fooling' the ECU computer into thinking everything was ok and it worked and for the next 2 years I used my jetski trouble free but I had to do the same quick and easy procedure (hack) everytime I started the jetski. @@manofmeansbynomeans8659 I forgot but it’s more or less the diagnostic mode jumper wires. Try searching for that on the Aquatrax. Also is referred to as the “service check short”. Hope that gets you a little further.

@@manofmeansbynomeans8659Brown wire and green wire in the red service connector need to have a wire from each of them going to a switch and when you flick the switch it jumps the wires (connects them through the switch) and following the procedure as mentioned in my previous reply and in the video will put the ski into bypass mode.

What does turning the switch on and off actually do to fool the computer? Also, can this basic idea be used to fool the computer for other things like the temperature sensor? Thanks for posting this.

Having the switch on before putting your lanyard in is how to start the code reset procedure of the ECU but then when you have the lanyard in and power turns on you need to get the movement to switch off and then back on within a short time (approx 1second) then the ECU remains in a reset / override mode and that stops it from receiving any signals from any sensor. Basically it goes into a closed off mode that won't accept any info from the sensors but you have to do this procedure everytime you need to start your ski again. I'm getting good feedback from people on the jetski forums that have watched this video and successfully used the hack to make their ski temporarily useful again. I wish I made this video years ago, it would've saved alot of people alot of stress from the annoying Code 25 fault. Thanks for your feedback 😉

Hello your video it's great very helpfull, if I do the mod and if it is activated, will the ECU have damage in the long term? Or this mod is only for emergency use?

Sorry for late reply. Yes it's best to only use as an emergency hack and basically the ECU is already stuffed with the code 25 that is a permanent fault but you can send the ECU to the fella from Gentune (search EBay for his store or Google for his website) and you can get him to do the permanent delete of code 25. My hack is more of a temporary thing but I used it for 2yrs because my ECU was already compromised with the dreaded (false) code 25.

How “permanent” is that “permanent” override? Only until you turn the ski off and have to do the override procedure again?

@@restfulmelody9893 correct, every time you turn the ski off you will then need to do the override procedure again. Basically it's better to do it as a temporary solution for short term use or emergency when you're miles away from home base to stop the ski going into limp mode or if you want to test a faulty ski before buying it so you can see the motor running properly and be satisfied that if you buy the ski and fix a faulty or faults that it will run fine afterwards. Many people wire up a switch just in case they ever need to use it to get them out of trouble one day. Beware though because the ECU will not recognise any engine faults at all when you use my bypass hack.

hello friend, how are you, I watched the video congratulations, could you help me please, I'm from Brazil and here there are few honda aquatrax r12x and no parts, I bought an aquatrax r12x turbo with only 130 hours of use, but it presented this code 25 problem, I changed it the detonation sensor and the two temperature sensors but I still get the error , I would like to know if I connect the two wires of the key to a 4 - wire connector and what colors and after connecting I put the key on and put the handle of start without starting the jete and turn the key on and off a couple of times then run the jete?

Hello. Sorry for the late reply. I don't think that the wires from the start button can be wired to the service connector. You need to have a separate switch to do my override hack before you press the start button to start the jetski.

@@BriannaLumpkins it should be in the video, just pause it when you get to the parts with writing and look for what colours are mentioned for the wires in the service check connector. It's also in the service manual just search for the section on how to pull codes or how to reset diagnostic codes. I think it's the brown wire and the green wire but you'll have to double check that. I can't remember the exact colours but it is in the write up text in the video if you pause it to read through it or it is also in the service manual that is free to download on a couple of the Honda Aquatrax Facebook group pages.

It's the brown wire and the green wire. They're in the red service connector that is part of the electrical loom near the coil packs and exhaust manifold. Sorry for the delay in replying.

As per my reply to you in the forum (before I saw this message) yes....the beeping and flashing will not happen if you've got the timing of your switch to off/on at just the right speed/moment. It can be a little tricky finding the sweet spot of how to do it but then it'll be reasonably straightforward after that.

Sorry I don't have a picture or instruction video or 'how to' video on how to do this but I basically pulled the cap off of the red service check wiring loom and then I connected speaker cable wires to each of the two correct colours of the service check connector (see video or service manual for correct colours). Then I run the speaker wire into glove box area and wired an on off switch to the two wires. Then when you turn the switch 'On' it will be jumping the service check wires but you have to follow my procedure to get the timing and sequence right or the override hack won't work. It's trial and error but eventually you will work out how quick or slow to turn your switch On and Off and On again. Good luck 👍

If you can't find it in the manual then pause the last parts of my video and read through it and it will explain the colours of the two wires on the service check connector that you will need to attach a switch to.
