Taking your time is the right mindset. If you rush, it will probably not fulfill your "vision". I spent at least a week looking at my CX650C frame to decide the best way to make the "tail dragger" vision I had in my head. Five years and tons of compliments later I'm still riding it and glad I took my time. I still freakin' love the look of that bike!

When I work on a frame, I put smaller size pieces of pipe inside the two pipes welded together. Drill a couple of holes for some weldpoints on each side of the cut. Might not be necessary, but.. :-)

Thanx john. It's a great way to ad strength to a join, I decided it wasn't necessary here because I am using 3mm wall thickness and I prepped the ends to allow for a strong weld. I do like your idea tho. 😁

I’m binge-watching. I’m gonna go outside and do a little work on my 1983 Kawasaki Kz750 LTD. It’s 72’F here in Grand Prairie, Tx. 75052 Your framework looks great so far on this video. It looks to me that you can just turn the handlebars upside down for a perfect position, and FREE!! I guess later I’ll see if you do that.

damn youre ballsy to cut the frame right after the tank, i kept wondering how people acheive that clean pipe look instead of the stock frame "c" channel steel, but this is the first video i seen someone actually do it.

You are awesome. I also do the things you are doing, just not anywhere near as well or involved. I do fiberglass stuff on my boats, motorcycle cleanups, and i do metal work when I have to, just no welding yet. If/when I get into that, I'll be able to do so many cool things.

Doing an xjr1300, cutting the frame was a worry but most mistakes can be fixed! Very similar project to mine. Good stuff.

Wow. So i started out on the seat foam shaping video. That was the first video i saw from your channel. Going back to these earlier videos is a perfect explaination of why i would stare at this bike for hours. It's the fact that you were willing to move a bracket 15mm instead of saying "fuggit, it's close enough". I just wish you lived in the US so i could hang out and get in your way.
@CafeRacerGarage
@CafeRacerGarage 6 лет назад
TheYakkis I love it here but I wish I could live in the USA also. I’ve been there 3 times now and love it. It’s Just so hard to make it happen 😢 I spend a lot of time looking at the bike just thinking about the overall look I want. If I’m not happy I’m not afraid to show it on video and start over. It’s all part of custom built motorcycles 👍😁 I’m super grateful you are sharing your thoughts on my videos 😁 Thank you

For one of the CX make it really modern cafe with some new tech to improve the bikes overall performance (Mono shock?). While the other one make it a scrambler for off-roading capabilities.

Looking good. Why not convert one cx to a mono shock cafe racer. Doing a virago 1100 build at the moment. Can be stressful sometimes not wanting to make a bad cut.

Thank you for the comment Brice, I will need to look more into the mono Idea and work out the parts I will need. A Virago is on the build list for this channel :) I almost bought one the other day but it fell through the cracks, unfortunately. what year models are best to look for? How much do you have to do on yours?

I’m curious about the original frame piece you reused near the tank. The angle at the right bend turns in about a half inch more than the left on that model. How did you deal with making sure it lined up with the rear of the bike when it came time to weld the rest of the seat frame.? Hope my question isn’t too vague. Thanks! Also Great vids👍🏼

I'm considering cutting out my top tube and replacing it, ive never done it and I'm curious if its possible without ruining my frame. Its the frame of a CX450. Does have motor mount to be moved also

Great work!!! What is the exact model of the tank? Does it clear the width of the frame tube or you had to modify it? Thank you
@CafeRacerGarage

Leandro Palou this is a 1979 cb650 tank and it’s requires a little chopping of the mounts both on the tank and relocating the mounts on the frame. Apart from that it fits 😊😊👍

Does cutting the frame devalue the bike?
@CafeRacerGarage
@CafeRacerGarage 3 года назад
If you do it professionally it’ll add value to the bike depending on what bike you choose or the quality of the workmanship once it’s finished. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so my fabrication is better than OEM
