To get the frame ready to send out to the powder coaters in this video I cut the rear end off the Honda CB750 cafe racer frame and install a new hoop end with a void for a built in light.

Thanks for the vids, they are great. I watched the CX500 rebuild over 3 nights and I was hooked - going to bed at 5am. As a total non-mechanic who takes my bike to the local dealer to have my chain adjusted, I enjoy seeing your top notch skills and patience.

This is actually the first time I really like the result of the rear hoop. In my opinion you didn't need to install a rear hoop on the Suzuki or the CX, just hide the frame with the seat. Kind of liked the way the CX turned out though. As I said, really like the look of this rear end. Hope the seat turns out great, good luck with that!
@forthebold
@forthebold 6 лет назад
Thanks. Have you seen the CX hoop will be visible? the red curve underneath the seat will be visible where the seat sits on top of it.
@C3kPanda
@C3kPanda 6 лет назад
Yeah of course, I watch every video :D. I'm just saying that when you first got the CX and installed the hoop I was quite disappointed because I personalty really like a monoshock setup with an all leather or even a bicycle-like seat on a CX. But although that looks really nice, every CX (or Virago for that matter) is converted to a monoshock setup. So I appreciate the choices you made and how the CX turned out, it stands out! Just get them both on the road dammit! ;) (JK obviously, keep up the good work and the vids!)

The hoop with its integrated, recessed rear light looks killer. I hope you find an understanding inspector who likes the looks as much as I do. This is easier here in the US where nobody really cares as long as the light is fully functional.

@jaquesdaniels2964
@jaquesdaniels2964 6 лет назад
Alan Dow, glad you mentioned that, I'm getting a bit self concious about constantly commenting on welding, folks, with gas MIG, you should clean up as the "toes" of the weld might not fuse in, Fluxcore MIG is a better option if you are welding rough steel. Its like painting- prep the job before spraying for a top job, rough old steel, brush it and slap on Hammerite-rough outcome.If grinding off welds,best go over em again,try a bit hotter setting.Put me Saturday soap box back in the corner now LOL.Those ready made bends are really handy, save a heck of time and money, one day when I'm feeling really adventurous, I might get some of these and fab an exhaust www.stainlessbros.com/Pie-Cuts_c_14.html-- and I did say one day and might lol.That old CB had been sorely neglected, be good to see it fixed up, nice one.
@thejasonrk

Fantastic video. Can you please explain why you cut the back of the frame half height before inserting the hoop? How would that be different from cutting the loop a little shorter and welding the inserts in at the same rear point (suspension extensions) without the half cut? It seems that esthetically you would get the same result... Is it because your method would provide more support to the loop, and hence, will be safer? I ask because I am tackling this same task now, on a very similar bike. Thanks!

Did you make the rear hoop or buy one?
@THESICKSILVERADO
@THESICKSILVERADO 2 года назад
Maybe i missed it but is that a 7/8 or 1inch tube you installed. I bought a 7/8 but it seemed to be really weak.
@forthebold
@forthebold 2 года назад
This is the same as the standard frame which I think might be 25mm, 7/8th is 22mm. It needs to match your frame EXACTLY, otherwise it's dangerous.

No, once you cut off the back you can't revert.

It’s just an insert to connect the 2.

For The Bold - dreegez I was asking because I thought that would be an awesome how to.
@forthebold
@forthebold 6 лет назад
It would be, although not too hard, you'd need a new wheel from a newer version (one without the inset for the drum and holes for the disc, then the calliper is held on by a bracket that the rear wheel pin goes through, then connect a bar from the pivot point of the swing arm to the calliper. (A rough guess at the process). and don't forget a brake reservoir and piston to the foot pedal.
