Honda CB750 Front Brake Caliper Refurbishment | Motorcycle Brake Rebuild | Part 23
In this Honda CB750 project bike episode, I rebuilt the front brake caliper on my CB750 build. I am building this bike to be a road-going runner, not a full restoration, so I am giving it what it needs rather than aiming for perfection. As I have mentioned before, a working front brake is essential for my health and happiness :)
Here's what I used in this video:
Red Rubber Grease: ebay.us/Blydfz
Brembo DOT 4 Brake Fluid: ebay.us/XOl6z1
EBC CB750 K0-K6 Brake Pads: ebay.us/ZglFDC
Goxawee die grinder rotary tool: ebay.us/qYyEoZ
Wire Brush: ebay.us/VjE0ns
Although very seized and covered with corrosion, this caliper cleaned up quite well. It doesn’t have any damage to any of the important parts, like the threads or seal seats.
I have used a new piston as well as a new seal. I always use red rubber grease to build up calipers. I used to dip it all in brake fluid as a lubricant, but that risks damaging any paintwork it touches, so this is a lot less risky.
I bled the brakes using the traditional method of; get some pressure in the line by pumping the lever and holding it; then open the bleed valve; let the brake fluid and air out; close the bleed valve; then release the lever; repeat. I have tried using a syringe to backfill the system, but I haven’t been overly successful with it yet!
Although I do get pressure in the system and I am sure that all of the air is out I am still not completely happy with the front brake, so I will have to investigate further.

hay nice job . no matter what i do i cant stop my front dragging on the break . its as if the adjustable bolt and spring is just to short to let rim free wheel .

I think they become an area of constant maintenance, all of the different parts that Honda put in the front brake gives a lot of opportunity for something to get sticky. If the clearance is set right then the seal in the caliper should pull the pad back just enough so that it doesn't drag, but it never seems to last for long. I always go for a lot of clearance on the front brake, but it only delays maintenance sessions. Good luck.

Great job they came up like new. Brilliant video very helpful, will watch out for the next. Like the ones for the fireblade as well, I have a 97 blade luckily she is perfect.

Just an update and a thankyou got the pressed in idle jets out of the cb750 carbs used a 1.4mm easy out was a bit nervous but went well fitted new pressed in jets. Cleaned idle circuit with carb cleaner,E guitar string and compressed air. Just got to re-install bank of carbs and I know how awkward that is from last time I had them off. Thanks again for the great advice.

Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying the vids. My blade will definitely never be perfect, but I love it anyway. They're fantastic bikes.

Nice job, those pivot arms are a pain, they seize very easily, you can drill the aluminium, tap it and add a small grease nipple, no more seized brake arms 👍

good job , just wondering how do cb 750 brakes compare to your fireblade. i heard there is a massive difference?

There is. I am looking at upgrading the brakes on my Cafe build to twin disc. But I doubt that even then they would be anything like the Fireblades stoppers. The extra weight of the bike doesn't help, but single piston caliper vs 2 four piston calipers is never going to end well :)
