Watch Part 5 here: • Honda CB750 Nighthawk ...
Unstaking and loosening the clutch-center locknut; removing the clutch center (including the spring seat and the judder spring), the metal plates, the friction disks, and the pressure plate.
Clutch-center-locknut tool: P/N 07716-0020203
Pressure-plate retaining tools: P/N 07HGB-001010B (quantity one) and P/N 07HGB-001020B (quantity four)
I obtained these tools many years ago, so it is possible that the part numbers have been superseded.

I came to find out if the lock nut is reverse thread. Learned that the nut is staked. Great video!

Thanks! The locknut has right-hand thread. If you watch the later videos, you will see that Honda has superseded the notched locknut by a regular hex.

@@Zerk_Ziegler Imagine my stress when the replacement that arrived was nothing like what I heard it should be like.

@@klamup Are you talking about the locknut?

Like your videos, very thorough. I wonder why an otherwise simple bike requires all those special tools just to do a clutch. I've done clutches on more advanced bikes, no special tools required. Hope I don't need a clutch for a long time.

This is standard Honda stuff (Type A, outer push type clutch), but you are right. Using an impact wrench would have been much easier, but the shape of the clutch center locknut and the corresponding tool with four little teeth made me nervous. Would have been so much better if the locknut were a hex. It takes gorilla strength to remove that locknut with a wrench, and unstaking it is also a pain.

What's the history on your Nighthawk? How many miles, how long have you had it? I just picked up a 92 last fall, 20k miles. Been going through it over winter. No clutch slippage.🤞

Why couldn't you put the bike in 5th gear and step on the rear brake? That would get rid of the holding tool at least. This would be with a ratchet not an impact gun. 80 ft.lbs. for the nut.

@Pete V. It's a '98, same mileage as yours. When I picked it up a while back, I noticed that the clutch cable wasn't properly adjusted (too tight) by the previous owner. At first the clutch didn't slip, but all "good" things come to those who wait, I guess :).

Yes, that should work. You could just "shim" the brake pedal under the footpeg (like I show in the first video, just tighter) to engage the rear brake. I will give it a shot when it's time to get the nut back on.

Do you think puting the springs back without the plate and trying to unbolt the big nut with the bike in gear could work? I don't feel like spending +40$ on the special tool :( Edit: just checked, the cheapest I found 355€ 😵

I got my answer from your video installing the clutch center. I have a hex big nut so I'll try with the big wrench, sixth gear and the rea brake. If that doesn't work I'll go with an impact...

@@Mad_Charly I did INSTALL it without the tool: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g7oivTbEClw.html. So, removal without the tool is theoretically possible. But it required A LOT of effort to manually remove the factory nut. So yeah, keep the zip gun on the ready ...
