I've owned a '18 Honda Clarity for 18 months... with the 17kWh battery I can run in EV mode for months at a time and never use any gas. If you floor the accelerator pedal, the 1.5L will kick on to provide extra boost. But you learn quickly where the detent position is on the accelerator and learn to use just enough pedal to keep the gas engine from coming on. With a 32amp L2 evse, I can charge a completely empty battery in about 2.5 hours. It does have a fairly small 7 gallon gas tank, but the gas engine is efficient enough to give you about 250 miles of range on that tank. The Clarity does not have a CVT transmission, it is a single speed direct drive. The paddles on the back of the steering wheel allows you to adjust regenerative braking.
@@byronsmith8967 Is it really faster? Most reviews I've seen say that the Volt is easily more peppy than the Clarity, and is able to keep its engine turned off more of the time compared to the Clarity. How do the two compare in EV-only mode?
Nice work! I've had my 2018 since April of that year. 65 000 km and counting. With a 240V in my garage I've managed 80% of the time on pure EV! Dirt cheap to run because of course. Best car that most have never heard of! Quiet, comfortable, huge, and not completely boring to drive! I'm shocked it isn't more popular! All the best with the channel! -Brad
Hey Brad, thanks for sharing. It is a very good car. I agree that most people don’t even know about it. Good to hear about your positive experience. Thanks for watching
@@gmald17 Hey Gerry! Yes indeed it does have CarPlay. I use it all the time. And yes the seats are doing just fine. I wear either suits or jeans, so there is a little bit of blue dye coming off on the driver's bolster, but nothing I'm concerned with. I have three kids also and I am impressed with how it is holding up! That's after 65 000 km too! No garage queen... Thanks for the questions! And best of luck! -Brad
A few questions on whether some issues have been fixed with the Clarity. I like my 2018 Honda Clarity but there's some things I'd like to see fixed. - Has the windshield wiper speed been updated to adequately work in a hard rain. The highest speed is much slower than other cars I've driven. - Has the automatic breaking been fixed such that it doesn't break when you are trying to accelerate. This is actually dangerous to override the driver when he's trying to get out of jams. Sometimes the automatic breaking will activate with cars in the lane over as well. - There should be a normal cruise control. The adaptive cruise control follows too far behind the other cars. Enough for a double-trailered semi to cut in. Then when they do, the braking can kick in too hard.
@@TwoGuysandaRide 17kWh battery only, not 25.5 (which is for full electric version of Clarity) as specified at 5:22. Tot hp is 212 not 221, etc. Also check the rpm for max hp. Roadside assistance is 3yr/36000m not 60k mile.
Just like cars of the 50’s and 60’s with “fender shirts”, yes the rear wheels are accessible if you need to change or rotate the tires. Thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide I would like to buy one, but brand new, not used. I contacted a dealership, but they are giving me so many excuses why I cannot order one, except I pay a ridiculous price for it.
@@myytchannel6632 well, sorry to say that’s not just the Clarity. It’s how all cars and trucks are being sold in the Covid era. Luckily here in Minnesota very few dealers are adding thousands of dollars on top of the MSRP under the guise of “market adjustment”
@@TwoGuysandaRide 🤨 that’s weird, I saw a guy do a review with Texas plates on it. Well hopefully in the nearby future they will be available in more states.
@@htfcm it was from Toyota Corporate not a local dealer. Also we don’t have a hydrogen infrastructure here to even fuel the vehicle. We’d have to fly out to a state where they have the fuel available and not sure if Toyota will pay the airfare 😎
Passengers in the Clarity are protected by four sets of airbags. These include Advanced Front Airbags, a Driver's Knee Airbag, SmartVent Front Side Airbags, and Side Curtain Airbags with a Rollover Sensor. Thanks for watching
Robert Barry - Depends, in my personal experience (2018 Honda Clarity plug-in hybrid Touring), based on weather and how you drive, it can be as low as low 30’s if the weather is cold, to 47-48 maximum EV only range.
