That's my only question. If you were going to mod a CR-V, I would think that the main attraction would be the AWD.

That car can run a quarter mile faster than my first gen bone-stock CRV could even dream of running... and looks almost stock itself. I love this, and considering everything it performs great.

I was probably one of the first to build a 1st gen crv and i can confirm its a waste of time and money.. When the wind picks it up at less then 200kmh you would understand too!

+Matt Ireland well said man. here in the US we swap the Crv drivetrain into the civic hatchback or coupe an we are running 10's all day. an if we wanna have fun we disable the front wheels an have a rear wheel drive civic.

+nate cuskelly Epic tuning ran 10.30s@140mph in their eg coupe using the same stock crv awd b-series drivetrain thats in this car. They also pulled the front driveshafts and ran it rwd, theres videos online of the car making a couple passes and them doing donuts in it. Theres another hatch with the k-series drivetrain from the later crv with a boosted k24 that has ran low 9's as well, i believe it runs an aftermkarket gear set as the k-series boxes are a lot weaker.... maybe the guy was getting those two cars mixed up.

I have a 99 civic eg swapped with crv drivetrain that is pushing just over 600hp and about 475 to the wheels. The entire awd system is stock except for having a pro racing aluminum drive line along with equally strong front cv axles

It was his first time at the track and the owner was worried about breaking the transfer case. He said he will try again using AWD

+BLACKLACDTS Have you ever seen/worked on a CRV's 4WD? It is tiny, would not take much abuse, most are wiped in the scrappers too. Swap in a Ford IRS out of a T-Bird and THEN make it RWD. (Don't think this is possible without mega budget) I can't believe how well it actually hooks with stock suspension and skinny radials.

+BLACKLACDTS The AWD system in the first generation CRV's is extremely "under-engineered" everything is too small, to weak, it uses a hydro/pump system to engage the rear diff, etc. The rear drivetrain components often break at factory 150hp levels, and most of the parts are way too expensive. A note to the wise for somebody wanting to build a vehicle like this; First generation Rav4 has a proper full time four wheel drive system, 50/50 front back, is the same rally based developed system and manual transaxles as in the Celica turbo AWD cars so they will take massive amounts of power and punishment, and you can simply bolt in a 2L 3SGTE of any generation, even the latest 260++hp gen4 engines, in a 2900lb 5 speed proper AWD/4WD car, they are a wicked budget build. They also dont feel like a tall little FWD car, they feel more like a truck.

+iDrive4fun93 - Not the 12 sec cars I have seen. 15.0 sec should be around 95 mph. 12.0 sec should be around 115 mph.

+Joseph Summers most boosted cars can run that, but all motor k powered civics, and some other 12 second NA 4 cylinders I have seen, typically run around 105 to 107, because they lack the top end that forced induction provides. Being NA they get off the line better and are easier to launch because they make low torque numbers, and the max torque you make in an NA car is high in the rpm's. I had a 1997 Integra GSR, it got to 100 pretty quick but after that it started fading due to drag and low torque from being naturally aspirated. But your right, a boosted car, or a large displacement motor like a V8, can run over 110 pretty easy because it has the torque to keep pulling it and to resist being slowed down by drag.

It depends on the year, 1997-1998 have a b20b, and 1999-2001 have a b20z2, which has higher compression, from what I understand they don’t hold up to boost very long because they’re basically a bored out b18,so the cylinder walls are relatively thin.
