I happen to be in my 170s and about 5.4. I fit perfect on the 230F. I doubt there's much if any difference in the seat height and weight compared to the 250F. I sometimes regret not buying that instead of my KX100. I spent too much money trying to turn a MX bike into a trail bike. They both have there pros and cons, but the Honda had great ergonomics for me and I loved that low end torque. That and the e-start.

It’s my first Dirtbike I’m 46 yrs old 5’6” 185 the reason I got this bike was the short seat height. It’s a perfect first bike and I also live on the east coast and it’s great for the woods and some light track riding. I just did my first hare scramble on may 2nd at holiday mountain and I did think it was a little under powered for doing hare scrambles or maybe it’s that I’m still new to riding only been riding 6 months probably around 30 hrs . But all said it’s a great first bike for a beginner especially shorter riders it definitely helps with confidence when you can touch the ground

Even in Moab UT this bike would do fine (talking the Single Track, not sure it's got the range for some of the stuff like WRT). If I were to ride this bike I'd spend a couple hundred bucks on stiffer springs being a 200# rider. If you need compression and rebound dampening adjustments get a better bike.

First thing I noticed is how beefy the frame is compared to the 230 trail bikes. Big improvement, I wish it had a six speed or the gears were stretched out a bit more. I also love the brake setup, the front brake is really linear, don’t have that “all or nothing” feel the 230’s had. this bike is easily the best value dirtbike available. I’m 155lb and I don’t have any issue with the soft suspension, I’ve done some pretty decent jumps landing to flat just to test it out.

Thanks for the review. I also had a hard time finding reviews from taller people (over 6'). I'm first time rider as well (49yrs old) and have had this same bike for a few weeks now, taken it out 2 times to local SVRA parks in California . I'm 6'2", 185lbs and was worried it might be too small, but for me and for trails this is perfect. I'm not doing jumps, etc.. You can get both your feet on the ground without tipping over if you need to (and you will need to, especialy in the beginning :), and for a first time rider, I think anything more would have been too much. The only thing that confuses me still is how to go down a long steep hill, whether or not to use the front/read brake + engine brake (2nd or first gear) or just pull in the clutch and only use front/read brakes. Being a stick-shift driver in the car, it would always make sense to me to use compression braking. Anyway, my 13yr son rides the little brother of this bike (CRF125FB), and he is 5'7" and it's also the perfect bike for him to start. The CRF250F would have been way to much for him. So, these are great beginner bikes for trail riding. I'm not planning on racing, so anything else will suit this bike. I think in the future my son will transition to the this 250F, and I'll see if I will get the same bike again or if there is a next size up for trail riding (size wise). But for the coming year(s), this is probably perfect. Also, with the whole green/red sticker emissions thing in California, this is a 4-stroke, so can be ridden all year long, compared to red-sticker bikes (2-strokes). Oh, and no messing with mixing 2-stroke fuel as well.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 3 года назад
Right on, I'm glad you're enjoying the bike. As far as the steep and long down hills, I tackle them by using engine braking as much of the rear brake I can without locking it up and I definitely use a lot of front but obviously you've got to be careful about locking that one up. Once you learn how to modulate this bike's brakes it should get easier and easier to get the full potential out of them. Also, the most important thing I do on downhills is stand up!

@@ThomperBeThompin What makes a brake lockup? Thanks for the advice about standing up. I've been sitting down on it so far, but I'll try getting into the habit of standing as well.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 3 года назад
@@user-ug1sn2vh7s by locking up I just mean that you're applying so much brake pressure the wheel locks and starts to drag which means you lose braking power. Ideally you want to deliver as much brake pressure as you can right up before the point where the wheel locks up. Every bike set up is a little bit different and it takes a little getting used to but you find how much you can squeeze pretty quickly. There's a few parts in this video where my rear tire drags while braking downhill which means I lose some control if the bike were to react weird and it's not stopping me as well.

🇧🇷 Hi my friend, here in Brazil we have many aftermarket parts to improve this bike, I hope that these brands arrive in USA in the future! Brand: BIKER, BMP, AVTEC, AMX, ANKER, FALCROSS. Good luck

Just my opinion but you'd benefit greatly from stiffer springs all around or preload spacers in the forks at a minimum (make your own fork spacers with PVC for $2). At 6'4" 265# I overwhelm most stock bikes, springs make a huge difference. I'm from MA, the roots and rocks are hard on everything.

Awesome review. Easily the best I’ve seen so far on the CRF250F. I just bought a 2021 CRF250F myself and have the same skid plate. Did yours fit without modification? I had to use a rotary tool to stretch out the bolt holes on mine. And now that it’s installed, I question if I will be able to access the oil filter without removing it.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 3 года назад
Mine did not require any modification, however, it was a really really tight fit.

These are pretty decent dirtbikes esp for the price pt. May get a '22 model or '22 Kawasaki KLX 300R.

Really appreciate the video! I just bought a 2019 in September. It’s my first dirt bike so I’m just learning (out 5 times so far). I forgot how good it sounds - hoping to get out this weekend. That looks like PA! The trails you’re on look nice. Does that skid plate protect the shifter at all? I’ve bent mine several times. I’m hoping ODI makes hand grips for this bike but I may have to break down and get those pillow grips. The OEM grips are not comfortable!
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 3 года назад
I agree! The stock exhaust does sound much better than I thought it would. I'm going to leave mine stock. The skid plate does not offer additional help for the shifter, if any. It might help a tiny bit in a tip over. Yeah, I was looking for some lock on grips but I couldn't find any. The pillow tops work just fine though

Hello! Loved the review, ended up pulling the trigger and getting a 21' as well! The clamping area on the handlebars is 7/8th correct? I've been trying to mount bark busters on but they don't fit right with the factory handlebars because of the crossbar.
@ThomperBeThompin

Right on man! Yes, the clamping area is standard 7/8. My pro taper 7/8 bolted on just fine.

Thanks for the lovely review! It really helped me make my decision into buying the 250F. One question, is there a break in period for this bike? How often did you change oil, it being a new machine.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 2 года назад
I would definitely defer to your manual as I'm almost certain it prescribes a break-in. But if I remember correctly I drove it easy, only going up to about 2/3 throttle or RPM range for about the first 5 hours. I accomplished that over two rides. Then I changed the oil and oil filter and started romping on it as hard as I wanted.

I’m 17 about 120LBS around 6FT and am excited to get this bike but I’m a beginner and haven’t used a clutch before so I’m nervous to drive the bike when I get it in the next 2-4 months
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 3 года назад
Don't be nervous, and expect that as you progress and get better on the bike you are going to have a crash or two here and there. All mine have been a really slow speeds. Back when I was learning how to drive manual cars or clutched dirt bikes it helped to have a firm understanding and grasp on precisely how everything works. Last thing I'll recommend is when you first get out there always have a finger over the clutch and the front brake lever. Practice somewhat abrupt and unexpected stops. This will help you to engage the clutch with your left hand when needed without even thinking about it. Good luck man and enjoy the journey it's fun!

Great review. What adapters did you use to fit the larger bars?

The bars are 7/8ths, so they are a simple swap, no adapters needed such as for fat bars

Really good informative video. Question: would this be a good bike for someone that is 5’1-2 with boots on and still growing? I’m wanting to transition Back to trail bikes from my yz85. or should I look into a crf150 or a 230? Thanks.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Год назад
I think it would fit. Sounds like you're going to be a bit tall for the 150 if you keep growing. The 250 has about a 2 in taller seat height over the 150.
@okiedoesthings1649
@okiedoesthings1649 Год назад
@@ThomperBeThompin oh sweet. Thanks. That’s why I was wanting to push to a 250 because I feared that I would become to tall for the 150 and have to buy another bike again in a few years. I looked at seat hight dimensions and the yz85 is 33in, and if I’m not mistaken the 250f is 34ish? Thanks for replying.

Would the suspension be better than a klx 140s suspension? Because I jump that a lot and I’m wondering if the suspension would be a downgrade or an upgrade. I am also 13, 45kg and wanting to get this bike in a couple years
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Год назад
I've ridden both recently and yes, it is slightly better than the KLX140s. That said, it's closer to the KLX 140 suspension then it is a proper 250 race bike suspension. Hopefully that helps. If you're really into jumping you may want to consider more of a race bike.

Hey, I never rode a dirt bike but I’m looking to get into one. Today I sat on a 250f and it seemed a bit heavy but I’m sure it’s because I never sat on a bike .my question is if im a rookie and 6’1. 165 pounds should I try testing a 125 big wheel or just try the 250 and grow into it ?
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 3 года назад
I would definitely recommend the 250. The size difference will allow you to ride all day if you choose to. The power is ample but nothing scarier or anything like that and you'll get used to the weight real quick.
