You do not have to tap the stock handlebars in order to install hand guards. At least not on the Rally edition, and I’m almost positive it’s the same handlebars... Someone on RU-vid took the route of tapping out the inserts, so everyone else is going with that now. If you just remove the grips, you will find two small clamps that you push in, and the threaded inserts pop right out.
I didn’t look just watched some guys on RU-vid but it didn’t matter to me, stock handlebars suck and I get parts for cost so they had to go. I do know that the bolts supplied with my guards wouldn’t work on the stock bars though
But to answer your question the stock bars do have different part numbers between the L and Rally I logged into IN and checked it, what the differences are I’m not sure
