I bought a 2003 CR-V a month ago with 190,000 km (118000 miles), in very good condition and now I'm starting the conversion to cmaper according to your instructions. It's the best car ever :) I'll show you the conversion results when I finish the job. Thank you for the idea and the explanations.

This is so sweet! I was looking for a video on how to make a bed platform like this one but for this specific generation of CRV. Thank you so much.

@@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography I tried to make it work on mine. unfortunately, I do not know why but the space between the back door and the back seats is different in your car and in mine. I surprised when I tried to make it exactly like yours, it did not fit in my car. maybe because mine is a 2004 and yours is a 2005? same final length of 74inches. now I am having a hard time bringing the back seats up because the upper panel is too long hahaha. anyways, I will figure something out. this video is still very helpful.
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
@@edy6722 Oh no! I hope you figure it out. You may have to do some little curves to get around areas by the door. If you notices we had to cut out the corners of the boards on the back boards to close our door. Keep me posted. Fingers crossed you'll get a good fit and be on your way to camping in your car! All the best!

Start with taking the rear seats out (8 bolts) I made a template from cardboard to start with makes things a whole lot easier to plan and pre storage and less weight! When you need the rear seats bolt them back in, there’s no electrics to get in the way!

Your setup looks nice. I've not built a platform, but have folded down the back seat & climbed in to see how I'd fit. I'm 5'4" and I don't have enough length. It's about 4" too short. I've watched many of these build out videos and they all can stretch out when lying down. Can't figure out how everyone is getting all the length.
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography 8 дней назад
Thanks for your comment. My husband is 5'10" and he's able to stretch out. But in order to do that the front seats are pushed forward all the way when in sleep mode. I'm 5'4" and when I travel by myself I don't push the seats forward so that if for some reason I have to get in the drivers seat fast and drive I can. So in my case traveling alone the front plywood board isn't fully extended to the 6' length, so it overlaps a bit. I don't mind the bump from the over lap as I lay a blanket over it and of course my mattress if over it so I don't notice it. I hope this helps!
@Judy-fi7ce

@@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography Thanks for your reply. I do push the front seat all the way forward. I just need the one side, but no way can I stretch out. I have no idea why, but I cannot fit. The mystery continues.

Couple questions: what are the heights of support legs for this build? And when cut in half, do the boards both measure the same 48x37, or is one board slightly shorter than the other?
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
Hello, the support legs are 13". It may differ for other SUV or Honda CRV models. This is for the bed platform resting on top of the folded down seats. And you are correct about the platform size as it is cut in half exactly. As mentioned in the video we had to put notches on the corners of the front board that pushes back over the top of the other board when not in sleep mode. Your vehicle may have something similar to work around in the back of the car in order to close the door. Good luck on your build and hope that helps!

Really amazing build!! Just bought a 2006 crv and feeling very inspired by your efforts ! Is there any chance you know the dimensions? Could do with knowing the leg length at the trunk end and the Length and width of the permanent piece in the back

I'm so glad you found the video helpful while considering your build! We did mention in the video list of what we used at the beginning of the video. I'll add them to the description. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. We used a 4 x 8, 3/4"' Plywood board and cut it in half. So the width in place is 48" and the length is 74" with both boards in sleep mode. I hope that helps!

I’m going to buy a 2004 CR-V next week and I’m driving from Quebec to Louisiana, California and then up north to BC and the Yukon. I’m currently planning on a sleeping platform that can stay permanently without needing to move the front seats much. I am 5’8” and I’m used to sleep in cars so I’m sure I’ll find a way. I’m wondering how much space I could gain under a platform if I remove the back seats entirely. As we can see at 3:33 it looks like alot of space could be use for more storage without the seats right!? Cool build, looks clean! Cheers
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
Oh that's awesome! My husband is 5"10 so you should be fine if you build a permanent platform. If you removed the seats you would have a ton of storage! We feel like we have enough so without the seats that would be great for you. I like how it conceals your belongings and doesn't attract theft with things under the platform. Thanks for looking and all the best on your build and trip!

Nicely done. I am just starting my platform build in my 2019 Honda CRV. How difficult is it to get in and out of the car? Wondering if getting out through the doors are a challenge.
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography 11 месяцев назад
That's exciting that you are working on your build! I'm not sure about your 2019 version as ours is older but it's easier to get in and out through the side doors. We don't get in through the back because our door opens on the side instead of up. My husband and I joke about how it much look to someone on the outside watching us crawl in and out ;) But we are healthy and fit so it's not a problem. Thanks so much for your comment and good luck with your build!

Would you mind letting us know where you got your window coverings from?
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
The window coverings I made from reflectix picked up at Home Depot. Then I found some black fabric that I sewed on seam binding. That seam binding was pulled over the edges and I glued down with a hot glue gun. For the privacy between the front seats I bought blackout curtains and trimmed them and hemmed them. We use a tension curtain rod to hang it. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello! I put links to all products in the description. Here is the cot mattresses we bought from Amazon and put side by side when two of us are traveling amzn.to/3XwzcIP We’ve used them 3 seasons now and they have held up well and been so comfortable. Off season they roll up and get put into bags that they came with.

How much space is it from the top of the matteess to the ceiling? Ive been wanting to do something similar but i cant decide on how tall my bed platform should be. Is that a comfortable amount of space?
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
Well not enough to sit up completely. But for us we are busy out hiking most days so we are we are tired when we get back. Sometimes though we watch a movie or read. To do that we prop up a little ;) We had to have this height because the back seats don't lay flat as I think you can see in the video. Good luck on your build if you decide to do it!

What were all the support legs dimensions?
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography
@PatriciaDavidsonPhotography Месяц назад
Well I didn't add them because it all depends on how far the back seats lay down. Ours do not lay flat so we had to base the front and back supports based off that to be level. My understanding is that not all Honda years are the same. Let me know what vehicle and year you have. If you would like me to measure them for you, I certainly can tomorrow and post here.
