I usually find that picking up a Honda, no matter how old, or operating condition, is usually worth repairing. You can’t beat Honda’s quality.

It really is. I picked up a 34 year old honda two stage snow blower from work. My boss let me take it home for free. I put some gas in it and it started right up after a few years! I ran some seafoam through it and it runs like a champ!

Hi James! Instead of a zip tie I use short lengths of string trimmer line to probe or bore through hoses and tubes. Put a piece in a drill to really scrub the inside surfaces. The twisted shaped line is really aggressive while the star, triangular and smooth shaped lines are less so. Take care, Jim

Another generator saved by the king of generators! This one uses the GX110 engine which was the smallest one they made of that type. The generator is very unusual in that one of the windings for the power head is under the flywheel on the engine, that's why there is a black wire running from the power head across the front and disappearing behind the flywheel housing. I hope you don't mind me asking but I think you might have put the metal plate that holds the fuel lever in position back the wrong way round. The large side was facing outwards when you took it off but you put it on with the large side inwards. I'm sure it won't make any difference though. Best wishes Richard

James you did a good job again with that Honda generator.Do you remember that i did give away all my tools ?Now what happened, two days ago my 85 years old wife like me told me that her washing machine was.nt working and that LG is only 3 years old.. I was calling the shop where we bought the washer with a dryer but they selling only and dont have mecanics for fixing problems.I did some telefone cals to othe stores ,but the mecanics where to bussy.. Once a week is there a lady who is coming for cleaning. She looks at the machine and say did yoy push this butten?My wife say no . This is the butten so that little children cant play with it.After she reset it and now he is working again.Isnt that funny.Have a nice day Jan.

Almost 2 decades ago, I bought a Honda EG 3500 the day before Hurricane Katrina hit Florida. I did not have a choice of brand or model, because it was the last one on the shelf, and paid a lot more than the other cheaper brands that were already sold out. I don't regret paying more for the Honda. This has been a very reliable machine over the years... The generator head lost its field magnetism once after a long time sitting in storage, but flashing it with a corded twist drill got it producing power again. The biggest drawback is the small gas tank capacity... only runs about 4 - 5 hours. Modified with a garden tractor vacuum fuel pump connected to a 3 gallon outboard motor fuel tank and it runs all night and then some.
@jcondon1
@jcondon1 2 года назад
I think later models added a larger tank for that reason. It is a good generator otherwise.

As always another great video. I know you like the Honda motors myself not to fond of them I prefer Kohler. If you ever work on a 390 and you know you have spark and you know your carburetor is good but it's still won't run it's a very easy fix. Pull the valve cover and look at the studs for the rocker arm. These things break all the time. My own personal machine I have replaced the same stud three different times. A friend of mine owns a large welding company and all they use is gas powered welders. A lot of times when they go down he calls me to see if I can look at it. Just on his equipment I've easily replace six different motors with the same issue as mine the broken stud. It's so common that I keep a few in stock in my garage. As always look forward to your next video.

I picked up one of these exact gensets 15 yrs ago... and it had been stored for 10 or more years before that. I filled the tank, checked the oil and it started on the 3rd pull. Ive used it ever since. Works great as a job site genset and has been a rugged and reliable small power source. I make sure that I turn off the fuel and let it run out the carby...and I put Stabil in the tank. Gasahole is not a good thing to let set for long periods of time.

My first effort when dealing with a blocked line that a drill won't go through because of distance or bends, is a length of Bowden cable (old bicycle brake cable is perfect) chucked up in a drill. It's flexible enough to go round 90's, tough enough to get down the full length of a car fuel line & if you hit a real hard spot then spinning it the opposite way (so the ends tend to splay outward) acts like a mini wire brush. Stay well, regards from the UK.

I’m a huge Honda fan! I have a lot of their equipment. My dad found one of these at a house sale for 10.00. The guy messed with carb had it all screwed up. I just put a brand new carburetor on it and runs excellent. My in-laws lost power last month and they used this to run a couple things and it ran for 4 days without any problems. These are made very well. It has to be 30 plus years old. I also bolted a furniture moving dolly to it, for ease of moving it around. That GX engine set the standard for the small engine industry. Every small engine manufacturer has pretty much copied that design. Great video once again James!

Want to point out, that if you ever stumble upon something that is NOT rated for 1500 watt intermittient load, even if they are rated for more than 750 watts of continous load, you should not use that space heater to test it out. The reason is, that the half-switch on these is usually a big diode in series with the AC, that the switch bridges. When the switch is in off-state, the AC will be forced through the diode, cutting off each half-period and thus making it 750 watt. But actually, you are instead turning on and off that 1500 watt space heater 120 times per second, "creating" a 750 watt heater, but it will actually put a 1500 watt load on the source 60 times per second, and in between putting a 0 watt load 60 times per second. HOWEVER if the space heater instead have 2 heating coils, for which the one coil is controlled by the half-switch, then its safe to try out even on things that are not rated for 1500 watt intermittient load.
