FOR THE REVERSE WIRE: You can also hook up to the relay switch behind the glove box, this is THE Easiest option to hookup your backup camera to the reverse wire / backup lights on all Honda Elements. Simply remove the glove box just like when changing cabin air filters, when you remove the glove box you will see 4 black relay switches, the front right one, if you pull it out then push your reverse wire cable in with that front first blade of that relay, you can then push it back down, and it's snug as a bug in a rug. Then hook your ground to the metal frame somewhere, NO need to solder, or splice, and now your backup camera will turn on when you switch into reverse, easy peasy. This worked perfectly for my Daughters 2008 Honda Element.
Does the red wire that comes off the yellow VGA cable connect to the stereos 12v red wire? and I am assuming the purple wire (labeled backup input) goes into that relay? And from the back of the car, the black ground gets wired to the chassis and the red wire gets combined with the red wire from the yellow VGA cable? Also does this method allow the camera to be on even when not backing up since its always powered?
Ok…it took lots of research and digging around but it boiled down to 2 groups of installments - the RIGHT WAY and the WRONG WAY. The 2nd group (WRONG WAY) all talked about special 2 pulse circuit connectors from eBay and Amazon (and numerous car head shops) but they always start off with a disclaimer that you SHOULD NOT DO THIS. It’s a simple wire! Why can’t we just find out how and where it’s supposed to go and get it right? I’m talking Honda Element’s here only. The 1st group (RIGHT WAY) actually found the Parking Brake wire in a simple to find location off of the right side of the sub housing at the base of the center console. This was discovered in the Honda Element Club forum with pictures that I’ll attach. Going to tackle and finish this first thing in the morning and include some of my own pictures. I appreciate the opportunity to mention on your post and hope you’ll consider another option. Now how do I post pictures here???
Looking for the magical green wire is the only way that guarantees that it'll work properly. All Elements have it in the same location. As soon as I tap into it I never have any issues with it.
Red butt connectors are the correct ones for the wiring size. Don't use the blue or yellow ones for the radio wiring. And use a fteakin wire tap for the reverse wire.
This looks a bit dated, 2 yrs ago…I’m having problems connecting my (light green) parking brake wire and my (light purple and white) reverse gear signal input wires…saw the bypass plug that you have…where are these located to buy? If I do this bypass will I lose any other special features for my unit (Pioneer DMH-W2770NEX receiver)?
This is the link for the bypass www.ebay.com/itm/265172334729?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mHqN97oUSk-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=pUzGAvlYQ-q&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Forget the bypass, I did it all the correct way with no weird splicing. Lots of research but read up on where all the necessary components and connections were and got it done. E is looking super fine
I like using this one. Looks good at night License Plate Frame Backup Camera Night Vision Car Rear View Camera with 8 Bright LEDs 170° Viewing Angle Waterproof Backup Camera Vehicle Universal Reversing Assist Security a.co/d/bbaAf8S
@@alekslpez Which wire did you use to tap into the backup wire under the dash? Looks like a green wire so I'm confused. Are you using the red wire with the RCA input and added the green wire an a extension to reach down under the dash?
