In this video, we tackle replacing the fuel tank filler neck of my 2003 Honda Element as it has corroded and started leaking and threw an EVAP code. This also applies to the 2nd Gen Honda CRV's (and possibly other Honda models) as the procedure is all the same. This was surprisingly a lot easier than I had originally thought. Some of the RU-vid how-to's out there show a much more involved process with rear subframe cradles being dropped because they could not 'snake' in the filler neck., We proved in this video that this is not necessarily the case.
As a bonus, we also replace the rear sway bar mounting links as they are very notorious for these cars to wear down and start clunking. All is quiet now. :)

@NelsonianB Hehe, 'gizz', go check out his channel, he's got better stuff than I do. :D Glad this video helped you out. And yeah, it's poorly edited with the music. I really wasn't expecting this video to get any views and we were just chit chatting about useless stuff and wasn't trying to do a how-to so I didn't think it mattered. Thanks for watching though. Again, glad it helped someone out! :)

Hello, In my 2005 CRV I have a leak in the fuel tank trought the Pipe Assembly Breather Joint (17656-S9A-A01), there is no info of why parts exatly need to fix it, beside the joint can't find any seal/gasket model, my question is if I need the Retainer (Orange 17711-S0X-003) to properly attach the joint or what else do I need? Thanks!!

You're welcome. I do state that a first gen CRV would be very different from a Honda Element. Do a little more research and hopefully you can find a better howto video that's more applicable. Good luck.

Nice video! What year's your Element? My 04 has a leaking filler neck and I had to hunt around to find the part. Must be a common issue.

Hey @mehftv. My Element is 03. I guess these cars are getting quite old that they can become a common issue. That plastic splash guard that is meant to protect the filler neck may have contributed to the corrosion as it collected a LOT of dirt in there., and that is where all the corrosion was located, right where the dirt was. Maybe something for other Element/CRV owners to look into. Thanks for the comment.

I keep getting an evap code and when I’m pumping gas the pump clicks constantly as of the tank is full. Code this be the problem. It’s the only code the car is throwing and check engine light keeps coming on after cleared. Pls if you know help lol

Hey @Jay. What year/car you have? It sounds like you have something clogged of plugged. It's likely your evap canister or vent tube to be throwing the code. As for the gas pump clicking when it's not even full, this to me suggests the vent tube is clogged causing the pump to constantly stop. It's a very different symptom than mine where my filler neck would just leak but it's likely the same problem with yours. Just inspect your filler neck and vent tube for any major signs of corrosion or even leaks and it will be apparent to you. Did your car sit for a while? Apparently this is a common problem now with these cars being as old as they are. Good luck and keep us posted if you figure it out.

@@604Bluelight hey yea it’s an 03 ex element. And yes it sat for some time before I bought it didn’t a full suspension on it so far. So do you think changing the whole filler neck will possible fix the issue or you think it may be the canister?I’ll check for those things you said I appreciate your response back.

@@boriloco150 Yeah, just my personal opinion. I think your issues and the code will go away if you replace the filler neck. But don't take my word for it, it's just what I think. I would inspect the filler neck first of it's condition and inspect the vent hose to the evap canister. Maybe even disconnect the evap hose and run compressed air through it to clear it of possible blockage. Good luck.

Is the new filler neck really hard or is it pliable?
@604Bluelight
@604Bluelight Год назад
Hey @cdotson0027, no the new filler neck is not at all pliable. It is very stiff in its shaped form. You may be able to bend it slightly but it is not meant to be bent. You will have some type of adjustments when you have it in place at the ovalled bolt mounting points, and at the gas cap plastic trim piece. Hope this helps.
