The government of Canada provided fossil fuel and petrochemical companies at least $18.6 billion in subsidies last year, a new report has found. Some of the biggest projects tracked in the report, released by Environmental Defence Fund Wednesday, included $8 billion in loan guarantees for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and $7.3 billion in financing passed through Export Development Canada, a Crown corporation that helps Canadian companies invest overseas. Another $1.3 billion went to carbon capture and storage projects, while $1.8 billion was handed to companies in the form of tax breaks, the report found.

Ford have just announced they will be increasing ICE manufacturing due to EV sales falling. They can't keep ICE on the forecourt, yet have nearly one year supply of EV sat on forecourts that they can't shift. Dealers are also selling ICE well above list price, because they can as demand is so high. Yet EV, they have to give huge discounts.

The Minister in charge of this is not bothered that tax payers money from BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Newfoundland etc is being diverted to build another EV plant in Ontario. He is just interested in the 1000 jobs that will be created by using $5 billion of tax payers money to create 1000 jobs. He has even admitted that these will not be just Canadian jobs, as workers will need to be brought in, as Canada has never built a battery car before. I wonder what the final percentage of jobs will be Canadian vs foreign. As we have seen with other EV plants that have had Canadian tax payers money used, that will be bringing in workers from Korea and not solely sourced Canadian jobs. Trudeau has said this will build a strong economy. Can someone explain where, when we have had to use tax payers money to practically pay for and build these plants. Then we have the tax incentives where they will be paying no tax, to have these tax paying funded/bought for jobs in place
