Bought my dad one with a plow on the front...everything in a 10 mile radius is now plowed. He's hard on equipment and this quad just works every freekin day without an issue for 3 years on.
That 1996 300 looks great! The 300 is arguably the best all around atv ever made in terms of reliability ETC....I started with a 1st 110cc honda 1981 2nd 125m 1985 3rd 250es honda 1985 Big Red...The Big Red was designed great, the trunk was huge the racks were strong had a detachable head light with extension cord,a back up kick start, head light guard etc...I would love for honda to design a big red-esque special edition fourwheeler... They all still run after
Also agree. We bought two from the same person a few years back off eBay (a 2x4 and a 4x4). What a GREAT little ATV. 300cc doesn't sound like much these days, but this thing is a workhorse. We pulled 1000's of square hay bales with these ATVs connected to flat trailers. Still running strong after all these years!!
I had a Big Red it was a tank of a four wheeler it was a 2 wheel drive and would go better than some of the guys 4x4’s I used to ride with. It was awesome.
Fantastic basic overview of the Fourtrax and locations of parts. Great hints and tips as well. I've owned two of these for 30 years, I wish this video had been around back in the day. Would have made my repairs/adjustments much easier. Thank you!
Just a little tip regarding the kick start option which was not mentioned... There is a decompression valve on the cylinder which you can lift up on before kicking it over. It will automatically return back to proper position after bike is kicked over. You can access it from the kick lever and foot brake side on top of cylinder.
My Honda has done really well for the last 9 months......now it will not start, so I'm going to buy a CDI box and cross my fingers!! Thanks for pointing that out on the video!
Wire shorting out. I would look under the seat or around the steering area. Let us know what you find. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Let us know if you need anything else: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports
Ecotrons makes fuel injection kits for small engines. Kit comes with everything needed to convert including throttle body, intake boot, position sensor, O2 sensor, O2 sensor bung, fuel injector, fuel pump, ECU with tuning software (also has eco mode switch), & also sell everything needed to turbo (except head pipe) if you want to go that route, wideband O2 sensor, external oil pump, oil tank, etc, & even sale small turbos.
why would you want to fuck up a superior design with injection??? these carbs are dead easy to clean and i have never rebuilt mine after 20yrs of hard use.
You might need to reject your Big Red. Also make sure your air filter is clean and your air box and boots are complete and not leaking. Thanks for watching and the comment. My oil light stays on now? It never used to? I’ve changed the fuses in back and one was blown. But the red light is still on any tips on what I should do?
I have one that is throwing oil into the airbox is there anything else other than rings that can cause this issue any advice would be awesome thank you
is the crank case overfilled? i have seen this happen on mowers people bring for repair. they overfill to brim with oil! the 300 has a dipstick...use it
I have one of these, wouldnt start from wire issues got that fixed but for some reason everytime I switch the key on the spark plug sparks but i can here it while I'm sitting on my fourwheeler which I didnt think was normal, it wont start so anyone got adive?
When I ride it, it randomly dies has new top end and carburetor. It always starts back up I just don’t know how long it will take for it to start back up 😂
I have a 1999 fourtrax 2wd and I have a small problem where the bike cranks up fine and idles fine for however long I have it running while its sitting but if I go to shake the bike it cuts off it only does it if I shake it while its sitting doesn't do it while riding any thoughts on what that might be
This atv is air cooled. No coolant. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Let us know if you need anything else: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports
Cooper Shuart If it’s only when moving it can be a lot of things. I’d suspect one of the differentials or the transfer case. Also check wheel bearings.
Mid Nebraska Motorsports I got messing around with it and since it’s always covered in mud I realized two of the bolts holding the exhaust on backed out. Put a new bolt in and no more noise
Any bit of water in the differential and Sub-Zero temperatures it will make a grinding / crunching noise or if you're in a warm climate it's most likely differential bearings
Just bought one 1993 Honda TRX300FW Fourtrax 300 4x4 well maintained for $1500.00 some would say I got ripped off, BUT, are there ANY parts on it that is OBSOLETE or maybe soon that would be hard to get?? I'm planning on keeping this thing running for along time so I'd have NO problem stocking up parts now for the future, does anyone have a chart of interchangeable parts across the span of years? Maybe would buy some for future parts.
if its in decent shape...you didn't get 'ripped off'. $1500 is about the least i'd expect to see for a running 300. drive it, shake the bugs out.....once you have it running well...don't "stock up on parts" as that ATV will last another 20yrs no probs
I just got one of these (1998)TRX 300. The tires and wheels that are on now are Front: 25x13x9 and rear: 27x12x11. Not planning on being in the mud much so I don't need the mud tires that are now on the back. Thinking about moving the 25x13x9 front tires to the rear and getting milder tread tires 23x9x11's for the front. Any comments appreciated.
I wouldn’t recommend this. If you need more helpful tips, check out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X0AdFxkJiOg.html and if you need parts: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports. Thanks for watching and the comment.
I just got a 1990 TRX 300 FW that it looks like they have bypassed the neutral / reverse switch’s did you do a video on repairing something like this. Thanks
This is great. I bought a 1994 FWD Honda 300 fourtrax in 1998, I've never found a good reason to replace it. It is still working great. I'm getting older and when I have full choke on in a cold morning and try to go from reverse to first gear, it's getting difficult to pull it up with the gear shifter. Do I need to adjust something here? Thanks for the video
Thank you for this video - I have a 1996 2wd honda fourtrax 300. I've rebuilt the back end (new case, new bearings, new ring and new pinion) and it has worked well for the past year. Last week, there started to be a noise near the rubber boot that covers the (I think driveshaft). It is a knocking noise that only happens when in gear and moving. I know that diagnosing the problem this way is hard, but if you do have any thoughts, please let me know! Thank you.
Just putting my 89 fourtrax back together. Put a need battery in. Went to hook up the battery, when I connected the negative cable motor started turning over. I'm baffled as to why. Any ideas?
I picked up a used TRX300 two wheel like the one shown here. My problem with it is that it runs at idle but if you accelerate it runs rough and makes a (kind of) knocking sound. I've been told to clean the carb, which I have already done 3 or 4 times. In fact it wouldn't accelerate above idle until I did the carb cleanings. What I'm wondering is if it could be a loose/stretched timing chain? That makes sense to me but I can't find any YT videos that demonstrate the same symptoms I have then show that it is a timing chain issue.
Could be about 3 things: might need a valve adjustment, a carb clean ( amzn.to/41cE6Oc ) or an air filter ( amzn.to/3NjEi8R ) I would start with those 3 things and go from there. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Have a '90 300 TRX FW - got to the point it would not start - rebuilt carb - now it starts up but dies as soon as you try to rev it up... it will idle forever, but dies as soon as you thumb the gas... any ideas? Thanks!
Completely froze??? or just hard to spin? Either way, I’d pull it apart and clean it up. Sometimes they freeze up with rust. we have a 99 honda 300 2wd run like new and Is in great condition check out my channel for a full review we also have a 2004 Honda Rancher 350 4x4 is there a conversion kit that makes the makes the four-wheel-drive go in and out of 4x4 2x4
Mine hits like it will start but will not start. I pulled unit and it started and would start for a couple days but now it will not start again. Is this the CDI?
@@MidNebraskaMotorsports You are right. Tapped CDI with wrench like you said and it started right up. Have you given any guidance on after market parts.
Thanks to you I was able to get my Honda back running. The good ole kill switch had been activated. I didn't even know it had one. Saved me an embarrassing trip to the repair shop.
@@MidNebraskaMotorsports not a problem. While I'm on a roll, the Honda is pulling to the right all the time. The tyre pressures are correct. What else should i be looking at? Thanks in advance.
Hey guys i have a 1994 4×4 ran beautiful yesterday today i got on it shift in gear fine but moves very little like 5 feet than nothing u can hear the motor has great power but wont move......any idea? Thanks
@@novak4130 mine started to go out when i had been riding for a while, then it stopped completely and the bike would end up shutting down while riding. Put a new battery in and the light was on. Soon as I hit the start I heard the solenoid click and the light went back off
question is my 1996 fourtrax won't start until I release the start button, is that the norm for these things. Or is that issue with cdi . So far not creating a problem but odd
Okay I have the same four-wheeler mine's a four tracks as four wheel drive and I crank it up and put it in gear and it jumped but it won't move like it's not it's not even trying it don't put a load on it or nothing when I put it in gear what do you think's wrong
I'd say you're going to need to split the case to find which gear is broken. The rear end is a common issue so you might pull that swingarm boot and see if the output shaft is spinning. If it is, all you need is a rear end. If it is not, you'll need to dig into the transmission. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks! No differential??? Thanks for watching and the comment. Let us know if you have any questions or need parts: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports
Check the on/off switch. It's easy to miss, but important. Does the neutral light come on? If not, check your neutral (gear position) sensor near the bottom of the crankcase. If all that is good, I am wondering if you've got a bad starter relay. Let me know what you find?? Hit the subscribe button so you are notified when I get more of these posted. Thanks for watching!
Hello. I have a 97, 300 fourtrax. It starts right up but hit the throttle and it has no power or dies. I rebuilt the carb, no change, spark plug replaced, no change, replaced the cdi box, and coil, still no change. Buddy insists it is the stator. Your opinion? Thanks for your time!! Mike
Sounds like a carburetor problem to me. I know you said you rebuilt it, but maybe something was missed? idk. Also could be a gummed up fuel valve. Only allowing fuel in, in small amounts. Enough to start, but not keep it running. Just a thought. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching and the comment. We have hundreds of videos yet to post. @@MidNebraskaMotorsports Thanks I just subscribed. I went as far as to buy a new carb but still no luck. Got me and several others baffled. I will let you know what I do end up finding out and appreciate your time. Just subscribed. Mike
I can come up with a video. I would say you've either got a stuck sensor or a grounded sensor wire. I would start there. Thanks for watching. Have you seen this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YeYmwzh4RUw.html
Excellent, comprehensive video. Had a no spark issue, tapped the cdi box with a screwdriver and started right up. Shut it off and will not run any more. Ordered Honda OEM CDI box and still no spark. Checked ohms on coil and it checks out ok. Sounds like it wants to fire off when I rock the kill switch back and forth while depressing the starter button. Any ideas on where to go from here would be appreciated. This has been the most reliable piece of equipment I have ever owned over the last 30 years but now have a no spark, no start.
@@rickyparrish2570 not yet but the honda is next up for repairs in my shop. Just had a similar issue with my main work quad - suzuki vinson 500. Ended up that I did in fact have spark but had water in fuel. Too much cranking and not starting flooded the airbox with fuel. Ended up getting a spark tester and it was lighting up. I'm thinking this may be the same thing wrong with the honda.
That is a starter relay (solenoid). If you relay is clicking your battery is probably low on cranking power or your starter is locked up. Also could be engine is lock (but you wouldn't be able to kickstart) or it could also be your starter clutch is shot. Let us know what you find. Thanks for watching
my honda fourtrax 300 1995 keeps leaking gas through the filter and my battery wont stay working and im not sure how to fix it could you help would help me a lot :)
Well to start, mixing batteries and fuel is a very dangerous process. I would take care of one before fixing the other. I would say you either have a dirty air filter or your valves are out of adjustment. Your float may also be sticking. Have you cleaned your carburetor? Let us know. And don't smoke while doing this job.
I have a 91 300 fourtrax that gives one spark then no more. i have an extra used cdi that i plugged in and same thing. if i turn the key off and on ill get one spark then nothing no matter how much i kick or push the electric start? any help would be great? could stator be the problem?
I have a 91’fourtrax and having the “common no fire” problem. So, I’ve replaced the CDI and Alarm box, ignition coil, and I think I was sent the wrong rectifier but it’s new and still no fire. Any suggestions

Hi I have a 1998 4x4 fourtrax 300 and I check for spark but no spark off the ignition coil someone mention it might be the stator how do you check that and can you remove stator while still on quad . Please help
hey, i need your help. I recently got a 99 honda 300 fourtrax. and literally nothing on it works, but it runs good. I am going through it and it is a learning experience for me. I have been working on the front wheels. my question is, is there supposed to be a small gap between the axle nut and the hub? I have seen where there are collars or spacers for the back, but I cant find out anything about the front. The second day riding it, the wheel literally fell of on me., lol. I may have another question or two for you later but if you have videos about them, you can refer me to those. I really need your help on this one man. I could send you an image if need to be show what I am looking at. but on the front wheels, both of them, there is a small space or gap left between the nut and the hub after tightening down the axle nut. if that is normal, cool, but if not, I will buy what ever it is I need, once I figure out what that is.
That left hand switch had me shook. The thing wasn't starting. Thought I had air in the lines or something. Watched your video, clicked that left hand switch and boom, she fired back up!
Having a problem with my 97 300 4x4 replaced stator flywheel cdi rectifier new battery and still won't charge 10-13.5v at idle and 3-6v revved up I need help
