Just a little note , setting the governor , all correct and well shown. When you set it , set the throttle lever in the fast position. On the throttle lever on the handle, Basically the hare picture on the throttle lever. I have spoken to Martin regarding this , and it is something that can really help the issue. Hope this helps people , who are having trouble , with the running .
It all helps , the honda book says set , throttle open .Well when you pull the governor open The throttle is wide open , they do not explain very well.
Thanks Martin I learnt something new how to set a governor, will have to get one of those ultra sonic cleaners saves spraying carb cleaner every where. Have to thank you and others on RU-vid for these lawn mower videos they have helped me a lot. Cheers..
With these two videos, you give us a nice overview of what can go wrong with a mower. Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm putting it my craft_favorites playlist so I can find it when I need it. It might not be so easy to find among the 800 or so videos in my small_engine/auto playlist. If you are just getting started in you-tube, you can save to playlists that you create. But once you get several hundred entries it can be surprisingly hard to find the one you want. So, for example, if I have one or more comedy playlists, at some point I create comedy_favorites, because some videos are just special. Later on it might be smart to go back and prune your playlists. I will flag a video by liking it, and save it to a playlist if it is a good one for me. Once you get to five thousand, the app stops reporting the total, I just hope they are still in there. You might want to avoid making my mistake. Somebody may find this useful. Thanks again Martin, also I like your rants. That's exactly what I would do if I were me.
Nice old lawnmower those are the Honda engine when running correctly are bulletproof... Ive got a few Honda engines what I’ve stripped off old rotten lawnmowers ready to go on a new body ...great videos and good tips for the people wanting to learn about fixing them 👍
Great vid those carbs are fiddly the gaskets are a pain sometimes I have to set the valves on these if it's still not running quite right. It makes a huge difference on the gcv 135. Brilliant mowers though worth the time and effort!
I think the Briggs & Stratton are easier to work on. Nice video, I learned how to set the governor. I love my Ultra Sonic cleaner, makes it so much easier for a carb rebuild.
Nice work Martin. The hondas can be a fiddle , but nothing like the Chinese engines they use now. They are a real challenge. Make me howl at the moon lol. Cheers Pete.
Hi Martin. Yep i've been thinking about one of those cleaners they look like a great bit of kit. What sort of cleaning fluid do you use in yours?. Cheers alan.
Great video. I have the same engine that's running well that I want to put on a rotavator. The rotavator is belt driven upon drive engagement on the bars. My question is I have swapped the pulley over and made some spacers to enable the engine to mount. Will the engine run ok driving the pulley with no load, bearing in mind no blade will be fitted?
@Retrorestore Hi Martin, excellent job mate! You've helped me in so many ways with theses vids. Especially on this particular model! I have a question for you, being an veteran in the field. I have a garden that requires a big mower. Currently I have 2 mowers that fit the bill in stock... 53cm (1999) Mountfield Laser Omega with Honda GCV135 4.5 and a... 53cm (2011) Mountfield SP555 with Honda GCV160. Both in very good nick. I want to say newer is better, but I'm not sure, which do you think would make a better keeper? Many thanks
@@retrorestore fair enough. Cheers Martin. They are both in very good condition. I think I will keep the SP555 as its 12yrs younger and has Ali deck with 20yr corrosion warranty. Plus a slightly more powerful honda engine. I just wondered if the older Mountfields are better than the newer ones. Thanks again for your help mate.
