My first Road Bike. I am a mechanic. I bought it because they said the engine needed to be replaced. Only has 23,000 miles on it. Smoking when I got it started but the valve train sounded good revved to 3,000 rpm's. Tail pipe smoke. Bought it. Pulled Spark plugs today and they just look rich. No oil fouling. Compression test next and new plugs. Cheers!

Nice, cool first road bike. Congrats. What year model? 750cc? Unless someone seriously missused the engine, there should not be any bigger issues with that mileage. My Magna has about 37 000 miles on it and my VF500F Interceptor has about 52 000 miles on it. Even 500 has still within spec compression and valve train is fine.

@@jonibeebeesplaytime Its a 1983 V45 - 750C first generation. On the left side Carb boot there is some oil around it and a clear check valve tube that is filled with oil. I've been searching the forums for why this is. They kept good care of the bike and it is in great cosmetic condition for its age. No dents on the tank. Charged the battery and getting ready to do a compression test soon. I asked if he was doing wheelies on it and we all laughed. They said they had it tuned up last year and it was running fine. This year it started smoking and their mechanic said it needed a rebuild. Rings. I just don''t believe that yet. They never had the carbs rebuilt yet either. Just wondering about the oil on the boot. Have a great day.

@@jonibeebeesplaytime I found the PDF Service manual finally and downloaded it for the shop. All 367 pages. It's a cool Bike. If I need to rebuild the top end so be it.

Nice! Yeah the service manual is bit difficult to find for some year models…but definetaly worth to spend time searching. For ’86 750 magna I only have Haynes service manual. For my ’84 VF500F Interceptor I have Honda service manual, which is really awasome (it is written for official service shop trained mechanic, not much basics mentioned…which I prefer, but it’s definetely not for everyone). I’m not mechanic, but I started working with cars and bikes when I was young and I read manuals and schematics if I need to do something new…

This Video gives me Confidence to ride this Machine. I just put it in the Barn with my Enduros. I call her big mama. I know she has a lot of power and it is good to see I can ride at slower speeds and just safely cruise once I get her together. This Bike is super cool. Thank You

Yeah, I like the dual nature of magna 750, very smooth cruiser…quite fast from traffic lights and can be surprisingly fast on the twisties. The design philosophy of Sabre and Magna engines was to have power everywhere (rev range)(instead of chase peak horse power). Also my first V4 (’97 VFR) had such well usable power curve, I ended up riding 90% of time around 3000 rpm…which I bought another V2 afterwards…and then went back to V4’s…much smoother, but still has a lot character (especially 360 crank versions, like VF ( not VFR) range) and power across rev range. My Magna is set a bit rich across rev range, just in case and also to make is smoother on low rpm. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I just picked up an '82 V45 for only $1500 with only 12k miles. I live in Montana and can hardly wait for spring.

Nice. Congrats on new bike. Yeah, like we all bikers…cant wait for spring. Over two months until riding season. I start and end season always with VF500F interceptor, which has grippier tires on colder temperatures. Thanks for watching and commenting! Ride safe and enjoy!

@@jonibeebeesplaytime Thanks but now it's 50/50 but no other offers have been made other than myself.

Looking at getting one of these. The V4 is intriguing!

There are many models, Magnas, Sabres, Interceptors with many engine sizes…most are really realiable if looked after at least decently. ’82 & ’83 models, especially 750 Interceptor had some issues…most models ’84 year model got some fixes (cam/valve train clerance fixes, but not yet line bored cams) and ’86 models got line bored cams. VF1000R had even gear driven cams. And of course (I think all) VFR’s (750’s and 400cc) before ’98 year model had gear driven cams. My VF500F Interceptor ’84 has already done 83700km without any rebuild and still going strong. I just filmed acceleration test on it and revved it to 12 000 revs 😅. I dont rev to 12 000 that often, even I think it can handle it…but most important I think is to not rev too much on cold engine and also not keep revs too low after start up and cold engine…and actually never longer times, even with warm engine. Early VF’s have good enough oil flow if revs are not too low (shouldnt be below 3500 revs for longer time, especially if there is engine load)(maybe good rule of thump is to keep at least 1/3 of max revs as minimum and shouldnt be over 2/3 of max revs for extended time 🤔)…quite common with many early 80’s motorcycles. Good luck on your search!
