My dad a friend and I did a longer trip from Maine to Alaska (13,000 miles) on an NC700x a Versys 650 and a Super Tenere. The NC handled the trip extremely well with it’s only real weakness being western roads with speed limits of 80mph/128 kph due to to the fuel economy drop and 3.7 gal tank. Honda just needs an extra half gallon/2L more fuel and it would be perfect. It’s not much fuss to just stick 2L extra somewhere if needed. The bike has excellent low speed handling and the trunk is a much better option than a tank bag. Finally the DCT is better than a manual transmission and I wish I could have it as an option not the Versys. Maybe Honda will make the CB4X concept into reality with the DCT. For now my dad’s about to pick up his second NC with the 2021 model. I’ll be curious to ride it myself and note the improvements. The 87 octane and 60-74mpg doesn’t hurt with them either for commuting or long miles.

I have not seen a bad review of this bike! Honda seem to have finally perfected the design. One guy said it was pretty near a modern Deauville in usability. After my summer riding I may be looking at one of these - but in red. Great review Mr Fish.

I owned a 2015 DCT version. I bought a Kawasaki ZZR1400 and for a while ran both bikes. Truth be known the NC was far more fun with its usable power output, and ended up my 'go-to' machine. Highly versatile and stupidly frugal at 100mpg. Regret selling it now but will certainly be looking to replace it.

Wow another glowing review for the Honda nc750x which is music to my ears as I bought a 2017 manual version last week, (coming from a BMWf700gs) and a bit like Mr Fish I am really enjoying it! On one review I have recently seen the guy said that no matter how big or powerful your bike is you will tend to ride it at the same speed as all your other bikes, which kind of liberates you! Nice one Mr Fish!

Great review as always! This is my next go-to but I was concerned about the seat to peg distance on this rascal as I'm built similar to you...long of leg. Most dealers in the states do not allow rest rides so I'm stuck sitting on them in the showroom and watching youtube. You tend to be my go-to cuz of the similar build, lots of info and humor. Hope you're getting on well, sir!

Excellent review, I’m watching this on September 23rd, 2023 so well after you made it. I have ordered a new NC750X and they told me it likely wouldn’t be in till November or December so could yet be a 2023 model or may end up a 2024 model. Not sure how much difference, if any, there is since the 2021 model you reviewed here. Thanks for a great video. If you read this, love to hear a review on the latest model from your perspective.

Brilliant and very helpful review, and funny, too. It's worth mentioning that the design and layout of this engine makes valve adjustment very easy compared to modern inline fours, which require ridiculous amounts of disassembly just to access the valve cover, and camshaft removal to change the shims.

True about the valve check and adjustment, but removing-replacing the airfilter is quite a lot of work in this bike.....

I’ve had the bikes that go at warp speed, Ducati, Aprilia etc, but this bike does everything well, with comfort and will go. Everywhere you go now it’s cameras all over, you can’t find roads to go at warp speed and I’m fed up trying to get through traffic to find somewhere. I’m using this bike for touring at the moment, it carries plenty and nudges naughty speeds on motorways, what more do you want ? Oh and it does 80 to the gallon.

I rode this exact demonstrator yesterday from Doble - In the main I agree with this review. There are very few proper reviews in English on You tube for this bike, which given it's been out for a while suggests it's not much loved by the usual motorcycle vloggers. I wanted a new bike so I had one bike to replace my daily rider venerable Transalp and my weekender Street twin. My shortlist was a Tracer 700, a 650 Versys or a 650 V Strom XT. The Tracer is a good bike at a good price but I found a motorway speeds the vibration through the bars made my hands go numb and i found the seating position pushed my into the tank and was uncomfortable. For me both the Versys and V Strom were a bit to tall and bulky. I thought I'd then try out a CB500x although i thought it would feel a bit puny - Test rode the CB500x at Doble and whilst it would do, it lacked bottom end punch and didn't have much left to give at motorway speeds. Deflated i returned to Doble and told the sales guy (Stephen) what i was tying to get. He suggested the NC which I had ignored initially due the the bikes reputation as too boring to be fun. Do take one of these for a test ride if you are considering this style of middleweight, it was fun to ride and very easy to get on with. After the test ride I ordered the manual version which I'm picking up next week.

The tigers a little expensive running as a daily bike (i don't drive) and coming from a cb500x previous to the tiger this bike seems perfect 🙏 would also be loaded up panniers and used for touring, fantastic review mate keep it up 👍

DCT seems like a must have with the low rev limit. Might take some getting used to. Style is better, the old ones looked cheap and dated around the headlight. Low horsepower, but more than my first bike, but my current bike has more than I need, especially on commutes in traffic or on urban motorways. I do like the storage, nice place to store helmet or lunch or whatever without saddling it up with storage boxes on day trips or errands.

Yes, my 30 HP scooter gets me the 30 miles to work in the same time as it takes on my 90 HP motorcycle, so for real world travel this Honda is eminently suitable. There's really no point in paying for power that you cannot use. I also like the fact that it is a low-revving engine, I don't like having to rev the nuts of a bike to get it moving. The low centre of gravity is also a plus point.

There are other reasons that those two bikes are more expensive that doesn't have to do with the TFT screen. All three bikes are built from the same platform and the NC with a DCT is pretty much a "naked" scooter.

In some ways this is the bike for me. But I also have long legs and the CB1100 is starting to get old; so something in the adventure line to stow the legs makes more sense (maybe I could buy a taller seat); e.g. Africa Twin. It's the Honda Civic in the bike world I think.

A common mod on older NC700/750 is to rework the pillion seat leaving a "gas hole" where the fuel fill can be accessed without lifting the seat or removing cargo/luggage strapped to the seat. A USA made aluminum rack can be purchased to replace the pillion seat and increase cargo carrying and it comes with a gas hole. No need to lift the seat to fuel up.

Took one for a test ride and, as I'd expected, very similar to my old S but with a bit more "go". Possibly a little less "oomph" lower down but nothing major. Bit disappointed that the screen didn't do more to reduce the wind buffeting, even at around 50-60mph. (it was a brand new bike 0 miles when I left so couldn't try it at higher speeds). One odd thing I did notice though was to do with the foot pegs/seating position. This new bike has a lower seat at 800mm compared to the older model and similar to the S at 790mm but, very annoyingly I found if I put my legs straight down (as I can on the S) then the foot pegs are in the way causing me to have to move my feet forwards and therefore ended up on the balls of my feet. Probably not an issue for a taller rider but very annoying for me at 5'7". Anyway. I can only assume it's the seating position as the foot peg mounting brackets look exactly the same. Apart from that. great bike.

The problem with the last version wasn't the seat height. It was the seat. Horrible. Once I put on a comfortable seat I couldn't reach the ground. I got lowering links, then a shorter side stand for the S model which I need to add a 1" spacer to. After changing stands I had to remove the side stand switch again, cut it off & connect the 2 wires with a wire nut. Because the engine kept dying when I shifted into gear at a stop. The side stand switch broke. And I have to carry a board in the trunk to roll the back tire onto to use the center stand. What a pain. All because Honda put a bicycle seat on a motorcycle. 9 years later they decide it's time to fix it.

Excellent review! I come from the Honda CBR1000RR world and I am in the market for a practical bike for exploring more distant destinations in my area. The 2021 NC750X is, indeed, in my short list. I think you have convinced me that the NC750 is a compelling bike for urban and some highway traveling. One thing that may be a little different here in the US, compared to Europe, is that there is a very large network of what we call freeways (Interstate highways) and, in many of these, the traffic really move quite fast. Local to my area, I'd say the average traffic is moving around 80 MPH (129 kph). Do you think this NC750 can do well at 129kph for extended periods of time (say an hour or more)? At higher speeds, is the engine buzzy and how is the vibrations at those speeds?

Hey Arthur I took one of these for a huge test ride, it will sit on 140km per hour all day with zero vibrations that I could feel. The only thing is the windscreen, I got a lot of buffeting and I’m a shortie, I’ll def put a windscreen extender on it, other than that really nice bike to ride

Had a question regarding my 2021 NC750X DCT: Is it common to get pretty strong vibration/chugging from the motor as I turn the throttle, almost like the timing of the motor is off, I usually get it the most when it’s in 5th or 6th gear and I’m going relatively slow, and then give it a good amount of throttle… if that makes sense… 🤔 It’s like chugging, or a bogged down feeling, as it gets to more rpm’s the vibration seems to lessen a bit. It feels kind of like a Harley vibration, it gets pretty rough… 😳 I’ve seen many reviews that said there isn’t vibration… hmmm 🤔 Hope it’s not just my bike… Any advice is greatly appreciated 👍

@olddawg
@olddawg 3 года назад
Hi I actually own the bike. I’m 6ft 250 pounds. Had my partner on it with me as well and it does the job. There’s enough power to overtake and the gearbox is smooth as butter. It will not win any races but it wasn’t build for that ;) It is very comfortable and easy to handle and will easily keep up with legal speed traffic. You really don’t need more power on the roads than what this bike offers.The ergonomics are perfect for someone around 6 ft tall. But don’t just rely on people’s opinions take it for a test ride. Oh and if you do decide to get one be prepared to wait for accessories if you order them. I ordered the bike and was able to collect it in 2 weeks time here in the UK but still waiting on accessories to arrive as they are all on back order for some reason.

Local dealer here in the States has a black one and a gray one. Don't know if blue is available here. So, since you've ridden several dct models, do you think that Honda should have the transmission mimic a slipper clutch like if it was in sport mode? I have listened to others on RU-vid having the engine braking on downshifts a little unsettling especially when you never know when they about to happen, unlike a manual downshift.
@stevebolton8471
@stevebolton8471 3 года назад
If you close the throttle fully then it will engine brake, if you close it slightly it won’t.
@kristophertrout7328
@kristophertrout7328 3 года назад
@@stevebolton8471 That would be tricky if you were using the front brake at the same time. The dct downshifting momentarily amplifying the braking to the rear wheel along with any braking the rider is applying.
@stevebolton8471
@stevebolton8471 3 года назад
@@kristophertrout7328 In my 22K miles on the bike I have found the downshifting and engine braking to be controlled easily via the throttle and working in a way I would expect. The bike can make reliably smooth shifts up or down the box, better than I can. If you are on a bad surface then you can switch to manual shifting too. I have done that a couple of times to try it out and then never used it again. It takes a bit of time to get used to DCT and it’s a personal choice. I was able to test ride the X a couple of times and also tried the X-ADV. I rode the manual version with Canary Motorcycle Tours and liked that too. Full disclosure, I have never ridden a bike with a slipper clutch.

@@kristophertrout7328 I’m on my second NC750X DCT and much prefer using manual mode so you can manage engine braking. I use it to commute every day and find auto mode annoying as it will constantly change up and down with ebb and flow of traffic, manual mode let’s you decide, it only downshifts itself when you slow right down to avoid stalling. If you suddenly need to stop it’s right back in first gear to take off again.

Excellent review Mr. Fish. I bought a 2020 manual version earlier this year, now you are making me think I should have gone for the DCT! Either way, NC750x is a great bike. Does exactly what it was designed for, handles really well, and is quick enough for anyone except the real speed freaks.

Your last comment summed up this bike "if you don't need to go flat out everywhere this bike is brilliant". I am one of those who has no need to "always be the person at the front" and this bike is absolutely ideal. So ideal that in my garage of three bikes the other 2 (ZZR1441 & Kawasaki Voyager xii) rarely get used. I regularly do 400+ miles in a day, regularly get 100+mpg from it, and the only bike I would change it for would be a new NC750X. My *only* gripes would be that Honda ought to offer it with a shaft drive and cruise control.

Sounds like it's very much my kind of bike. I've test ridden the older one, but the low seat would suit me as I'm a short arsed, slightly built sort of chap. I don't think I'd have the screen issues either. Because of my height and the fact I like to sit bolt upright ideally I might like the bars moved back, that can be done I believe. I'm glad I've actually got one on order. Thanks for the review.

I bought a '21 NC after having owned an older X and an older S (Swapped to an S because I'm a shorty). Bought blind because I knew I'd like it; but honestly I cannot get over how much of an all round improvement this new one is. DCT is better, engine is better, suspension is *miles* better. I like these bikes as they're great, stable, enjoyable platforms for touring and whatnot but finally an NC that's got a healthy bit of fun factor too. Plus the 270 crank does wonders for the engine note. Cracking review.
