In this video I go through the process of removing the door opening actuator assembly, lubricating it and replacing it.
We have been using the doors without any problems for the past month. Before this, they would stick several times a day.

frugal, Florida mom here. I have been wanting to DIY repair my sliding door for more than a year. I finally convinced my husband to help me and I just finished the job this afternoon. I watched a lot of videos and ended up using yours on the day of the repair. I liked how yours talked about opening the part up, opening it allowed me to see that it had broken pieces inside. door works now and it's so nice! Now, I will move on to my a/c electrical issue. thank you

Thank you for this video! My mechanic was convinced that a motor (which would have cost $500) was the issue. After a long train of mechanical and door issues with the car recently, I was really hoping to avoid another costly repair. With your capture of the issue you had with your door (at least on closing - mine actually started with just a growl and pop on opening, but did finally progress to the same action yours showed when trying to close it), I was convinced enough to give it a try. The only problem I had was at the spot where the window controller had to be disconnected (since your video doesn't show that part in detail). When it finally popped apart, parts went flying and I was scared I'd never get it back together correctly, but it turned out to be pretty simple. Other than that, everything was very straightforward and I'm on my 3rd day of no noises and I only had to buy a can of lubricant! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you so very much for this accurately detailed video! The instructions were perfect for my 2006 Odyssey EXL driver's side sliding door. After cleaning and lubricating the latch actuator, it still didn't function. No big deal. Ordered a new latch actuator online from Basney Honda's Ebay site. $42.50 later and my door opens, closes, and latches perfectly. The Honda OEM part # for the driver's side only is 72663-SHJ-A21. Your video saved me from taking my van to a repair shop and paying labor and part markup. Thanks again!

What a great video. I am on my second Odyssey and both have had this problem. I have searched the web and this video address the root issue. Honda Dealership Mechanics could learn from this guy instead of just lubing the door track.

Many thanks for the video. Used this as the baseline to remove, clean & reinstall actuators in both doors on my wife's van. Chose not to replace the parts as the cleaned originals seem to be working fine. Took just over one and a half hours, but that included a minor repair to the bottom runner on one door (that was preventing the door from fully opening). Many brownie points accumulated for very little effort.

I had pop sound issue with the sliding door. So I replaced latch actuator and lubricated mechanical parts like you, and also lubricated latch and other mechanical parts inside of the door panel. Now works great, only spent part cost. Thanks for your video!

Dave G. your comment about using the shop towel was perfect. Though the clip went flying when it came off, it was easy enough to find and certainly easier than video. Also, note that the black trim pieces along side the window have ORANGE plastic plugs that snap in and the panel has the white ones. I didn't realize the black trim had them till I tried to put back together. Also prying/loosening the plastic plugs around the door was a bit of pain but I eventually got done. I purchased a set of 5 of those plastic pry tools and didn't have any issues with scratching the finish.

Great video, thank you! Removed, disassembled and lubricated per instruction. BTW, used an angled hook (Harbor Freight Pick & Hook set) to remove the clip from the inside door handle... was quick, no tape, no scratches on plastic. On my 2008 Odyssey, the lubrication worked great for a few weeks, then started having the same problems. So, ordered and just installed 2 new actuators and the doors are working great again! Again, Thank you!

Nice tip regarding the door handle clip. I still think a towel works better, getting it off in literally 5 seconds, but to each their own. I've been having the same issue. Lubricated it, lasted for about 3 months, and now it's messing up again on occasion. Ordered a new one, and I'm going to install it when it arrives.

Use a shop towel to pop off the clip securing the door handle. Just feed the towels edge down behind the handle with a hand hold on each side of the handle. Now pull down while rotating the towel and the clip will disengage. Much easier and prevents scratching.

Yes. I fought with 6-7 different tools trying to remove that clip. A towel (or wash cloth in my case) flossed back and forth will easily remove that clip.

Jared, Thank you for this video! Our 2007 Odyssey has had the popping doors for a few years now. Dealer has only ever made adjustments to the latches, etc which never accomplished anything. Picked up a panel remover tool and a door latch clip remover for about $15 on Amazon... an hour later the doors are like new! No need to buy new actuator, just lubricated the motors, springs, and assembly on the door like you did. Great find! Great Fix! You Are The Man!!!! Cheers!

Great video, extremely helpful. A couple notes to add from my experience, replacing both sides: 1. The 2 sides are nearly identical, but the metal lever that the spring attaches to lines up slightly different between the 2 sides. I put the wrong one on the first door, but fortunately tested it first and figured out what I'd done wrong. 2. On the second door I noticed that some of the clips stayed in the door instead of coming out with the panel. I managed to pop them out by improvising, but in retrospect, I'm sure that some did the same thing on the first door. You'll want to check. There are 4 front, 4 back, and 2 along the bottom, along with the one in the middle by the switch that's mentioned in the video. 3. Picked a warm day to avoid plastic cracking issues, so the ice cream idea was perfect. Thanks again.

Definitely use a microfiber cloth or something to remove the clip holding the door handle on. I just put the towel through the gap between the handle and the door panel, when i felt it catch on the pin I just tugged down on it and the clip flew out. Luckily I found it. Also the panel clips closer to the rear of the vehicle are very tricky to get to, so a pry bar or some prying tool that has an angle on the end will really help. Putting the panel back on when you're done, that's a little more challenging getting the fitment right, and unfortunately this video does not show it.

Many thanks! Around 14min it is fully blocked, to remove the window up/dn cover I broken the rear north, you must pray out three dimension but rear part, then flip from front side to remove the cover. Yet my handle is loose and not easy to fix might be handle damage. My Lexus uses two wire rope this one uses four, complex design with many problems.

On our 2012 Odyssey I found that the 'little spring' mentioned at 22:20 was the problem. I removed it (pain in the butt) and cut it to ~75% of its original length and now it's easier to extend and engage with the ears on the inside of the gear.

Good video on the small motor assembly but the real problem with these doors is the end switches on the main door latch assembly. If they dont make and break correctly the computer will think the door is still open and cause a parasitic drain of the battery.

I had this problem, but this wasn't the fix. The bracket attached to the door that has a the roller on it was the problem. That roller is a type of plastic that starts to disintegrate and cause the door to wobble and give the exact same symptom that you had here. I replaced it (not hard, not expensive) and now it runs like butter. The other side is starting to go now. Just my two cents in case your fix here doesn't help.

I have a 2005 Odyessy. I had the drivers side door cable snap while opening and now won't open. The passenger side sliding door back latch won't close and the door won't open. After calling Honda cares expressing my safety concerns. They said there was no recalls and basically it was up to me to get the repairs done. I am a single mother and can not afford to take it to a dealer so my mother and I were looking on you tube on how to do the repairs ourselves. Needless to say this is a BIG SAFETY issue as my 3 children must crawl out the back hatch or the front driver or passenger door. I can't believe Honda has not done a recall as my sister has the Honda Odyssey also and the door on the drivers side literally came off the track at the top, pushed the button to open the door and off it fell while my sister caught it since she was standing there and she hurt her back as a result.

I had the same issue until today. I took the panel off and I felt the lock button with red rectangle was moving a little hard. I disengaged it and the mechanism was moving easily when pushing lock/unlock. I cleaned all the grease/dust on gray lock/unlock button slider and where it sits and it became real easy to move. No issues anymore with door unlocking and now door opens and closes. Hope this helps
