Honda Rebel 1100 REVIEW. Have the Japanese made a proper cruiser? We put the CMX1100 DCT to the test

We ride and review the 2022 Honda CMX1100 Rebel motorcycle and try to summarise what this bike is all about.
Is the Honda Cruiser Bike a proper cruiser motorbike?
Does it sound right?
Does it have the cruiser stance and riding position?
How good is the engine?
What is the DCT version like?
Would manual gears be better?
How good are the brakes?
Does it have any storage?
What is the styling like?
How about power and torque from the Africa Twin engine?
Does it compare to the offerings from Harley-Davidson, Indian and BMW?
We give it a good ol' testride and tell you all about it!

👋 I have a honda rebel dct 1100, I have loved and love every ride I take its a great bike. I really like the fat bob 114 2023 and I'm thinking about swapping it. Do you think that's a good choice? As performance goes of course, and putting aside the make as the fat bob being a harley is almost convincing enough 😅

Owner, long term review: Im on a touring in Thailand with the rebel 1100 dct. This last days i rode around 1800km 50% good roads 50% awfull construction and extremely rural roads. Total km since the purchase 6000km. Its a great machine after few upgrades. Stock i was getting extremely lower back pain after only 30min of riding. I install windshield, 1inch risers and a better seat. Now i can ride confortable for 2 hours straight, 4 to 5 hours a day. When you need to speed, she can speed. 0 to 160kmh pretty fast. When you want to cruise slowly and enjoy the landscape she is pretty stable, low vibrations. Fuel consumption im getting around 18 to 20km per liter on this touring, road conditions arent the best but everytime i enter the highway i speed a bit. If i control the trottle thinking about saving fuel maybe i can get 22km per liter. Maybe even 24. Only complain is the pillion seat, my gf hate it. After replace its great. Suspension isnt the best but its a cruiser, nothing to do about it. Sometimes you feel you re going to jump out of the bike. No mechanical or hardware problems till now. I ride almost daily on the rebel, i own few more bikes but the rebel its my favourite. Im short and i quite feel more confortable riding low seat motorcyles. I own another DCT as well, the nc750x.

I forgot something lol MY ONLY BIG COMPLAIN: Lack of acessories in the market, even i live in thailand where usualy we have one of the best aftermarkets company parts in the world.. but maybe after 2 or 3 years of realising date we can have much more acessories and parts. At least i hope so.

@@motovlogjoni hey Joni, I spend a lot of time there. I was curious how tall you are and arm span/length, as I just put $ down on one and thinking my lower back might hurt because of reaching the handlebars. Also, where did you get your seat? I have seen online you can get a forward seat that can help with this as well along with the risers.

Thanks for taking the time to do this video review gents. I ESPECIALLY enjoyed the “on the bike” camera views (during which you did not talk) which allowed us to really hear the character of the bike while riding. I loved being able to hear the gears, stator whine, and exhaust notes during accel/decel events. Very well done!! 👏. Subscribed! As for the bike itself, I think it seems to be an absolute blast to ride. My wife has wanted one ever since she’s seen the 500, but always wished for more power to be able to ride alongside me on highways and faster mountain segments. The Rebel 1100 fits that niche perfectly and does so with a DCT and cruise control. For what my wife wants in a bike (low seat height, fun styling, ease of riding, more engine to keep alongside my ‘21 Goldwing) this 1100 ticks pretty much all the boxes for her.

I'm surprised that you didn't talk about the 4 driver's mode. I got mine one year ago, and I like it in the "user " sport/ manual setting. This way, you can program the traction control, engine brake and engibe power settings. It's a lot more fun that way. And you shift on the left handle bar. It also got a phone charger connector under the seat.

I love the description (paraphrased) It is a rebel for someone who wears a shirt and tie and shiny shoes in the week and on the weekend a leather jacket. The difference of opinions in the aesthetics of the bike is also interesting. I look at it and it looks like a work of art, but then I like the digital read outs and the LED lights up front. I think I'd go with the cowling over the headlight. A great video. I currently have a 2014 Honda CTX 700 DCT, and I absolutely love it. Double discs don't add stopping "power", they add heat capacity, so you can use them a lot harder before they overheat. Only really "needed" on track, so nothing's lost, but I don't turn them down when available.

6-speed, ABS, cruise control, throttle by wire, user modes, led lighting… when the Rebel 1100 came out, all of that was non-existent or cost extra on the Sportster line, and the Scout was little better. Can confirm it sounds great with a slip on exhaust, also that bar-end mirrors are a must if you like getting a good view of something other than your shoulders. The seat is trash, really benefits from an air hawk seat pad.

Test drove the manual and the DCT and although I’m not a fan of the DCT it’s FAST 💨 (60 mph in 3.4 seconds and breaches the quarter-mile in 12.1 seconds). That’s crazy for a cruiser at $9k. Not a fan of the down shifts is the only thing. I’m going to purchase one I enjoy the manual more but that DCT acceleration is addicting.

This is not a power cruiser. Just a cruiser. Yamaha Warrior 1700, HD V-Rod, and Honda VTX were power-cruisers. The power-cruiser class largely died out about 10 years ago (V-Rod was the last, ending production around 2017 or so). edit - I forgot about the Suzuki M109R, which is still in production.

Never thought I’d love a Honda so much - I also ride a Moto Guzzi V7 2024 “TEN” - CHARACTER (can’t find neutral much)!! And a 21 BMW F 900 XR -that I’m riding from LA to Colorado Rocky Mountains tomorrow - love them all!!!! Next up, 2025 Goodwing DCT? 2025 BMW R 1300 RT DCT? Or 2025 Guzzi California???????

Great review! You have summarized everything important there is to know about the 1100. Except for the exhaust, I really like the Honda and everything she brings with! You are guaranteed not to make a wrong decision when purchasing this motorcycle, a Honda will never let you down. I ride an Indian Scout Bobber, but would speak as positive of the Honda as I would about my own bike - maybe even a little more.🙂 I really enjoyed your review! You're sure to have a new subscriber! You can see where Harley got the styling for their new Nightster (despite what their pretentious release docu would have you believe lol). Too bad they didn't also capture the actual performance and price of this Rebel 1100. As a HD owner (FXLRS) and lover, I NEVER thought I'd say "buy the Honda", but here we are. In this weight class absolutely buy the Indian Scout first, then consider this Honda Rebel 1100.
@MrDarcy-OlMan
@MrDarcy-OlMan 2 года назад
Do you know what; we were saying exactly that. Everything you’d buy a Harley for, the Nightster doesn’t have. Perhaps that’s intentional, to attract those with no aesthetic taste

About the driving test and the sharp turn, we call it the "garage". The meaning about the test is just to show that you can control the bike at low speeds. It dosent mean its always the right way to do it in everyday life, but they want to see that you CAN do it

I tried one of these last Fall and decided I hated it. Then I had another go round and decided I was being finicky after 30k miles on my CTX700. Since it needed a lot of maintenance I traded it in for the rebel 1100 DCT (I can pull a clutch just fine, but my left hand has some damage and aches after a bit). After a few hundred miles in a week, 1/3 of which I put on a windscreen....I really like it now. I thought about waiting a year for the NT1100 to come across the pond, but as a short rider with short legs, the rebel does the trick.

The brown needs the option brown comfort seat to give the bike a proper look. I have the black DCT with the batwing cowling, brown seat and fitted the SV650 rear rack plus some " cheaper " saddlebag supports with green Oxford 8 tail bags as small panniers which work very well with slightly longer/wider flat foot plates for the rider as the standard ones are too thin and short. So it is customisable but parts are hard to find even a year after the release of the bike. I have found now the engine braking indicator is reversed with the most bars being the least engine braking and I thought it was just me getting mixed up with the bar meaning on the settings. As it is electronically limited to 100mph, which I have done on a local " private " road it is plenty fast enough for the UK roads and 3.6 seconds to 60 mph gives you plenty to stay ahead of the traffic.

This is a brilliant bike; however, it is knee-capped by the tiny gas tank. This COULD HAVE BEEN the perfect solo touring bike for smaller people. So close, yet so far. I wish there were an after-market 5+ gallon gas tank. If I were to ever buy one, I'd get the manual transmission. For me, it's just more fun (less expensive, too!).

After you ride the dct for a few months, many riders would be keen on customizing the modes or creating there own. Thats where the user mode is really handy. Example you can create a mode which is sporty but with a lot of traction. Stock you have to pick one or the other. Also the menus you get used to when you ride it everyday.

The rebels handle very well for what they are; however, the bikes as they are just don’t have the same character/personality, that some of the other brands offer. For me it’s the pocket protector nerd of the “bobber” genre. Is it bad? No, but there are better options out there. That’s why I traded my rebel. In the end, everyone has different tastes and needs, and these are decent bikes with a face only a mother could love :) cheers

ive just ordered one of these, having been messed about with Harley over a Street Bob (6K difference before talking accessories). I've always had manual bikes (and cars for that matter) but i went with DCT. Just seems to make sense for town and the cruise control feature too makes a lot of sense for a cruiser. Oh and there's another 50Kg + I won't have to lug about. The 6K I've saved will pay for a few tours and hotels.
