Hello everyone! Today I’m going to show you how to replace the TCT or the timing chain tensioner from my AP2 Honda S2000. It is helpful to know how to do this because it is very common to replace or repair failing timing chain tensioners.
Difficulty Level: Easy
Estimated time: 1/2 - 1 hour
Tools necessary:
- 10mm socket
- 3/8 inch ratchet
- paper towel or rag
- 8mm hex drive
- screwdriver
Little bit more about the Ballade Sport TCT:
The Honda S2000 suffers from an extremely weak timing chain tensioner. Stock vehicles have experienced noise and rattle from the TCT after 40k miles or even sooner. This faulty piece from Honda also makes it impossible to run high lift cam shafts or run forced induction without experiencing TCT failure. Ballade Sports provides a heavy duty TCT eliminates all of this using a billet aluminum similar to the OEM cast aluminum design. Ballade Sports omitted some of the oil galleys in their design versus the Honda design to increase oil pressure. They also increased the spring rate on the internal piston to compensate for the stretched timing chain and guides.
The S2000 are no longer subject to embarrassing ticking noise or limited to low horse power gains from a weak TCT. Ballade Sports Heavy Duty S2000 timing chain tensioners are BRAND NEW, not re-manufactured units.

Great vid. I've seen another he said to ensure the piston is at top? What does he mean by that? Or is it straight an easy as your vid?

The piston is what the worm gear pushes out. Unless you are planning to rebuild the TCT. I recommend you don't remove the bolt holding the piston in lock position until it's installed in the block. Overall It's straight forward to replace the TCT in the S2000.
