I have not done the clutch on my ST1100A, but on other bikes I've stacked the plates on the inner clutch basket rather than trying to fit the inner clutch basket into the stack as you did. Doing it that way is a bit easier.

Thanks Berferd2, appreciate your comment, was my first time on doing an ST1100 clutch, so bit of an experience, it was a bit of trial an error, but worked ok

Thanks Calvin,appreciate and understand your comment, that was my first time working on an ST1100 clutch, so all new to me to, it is difficult to get everything in without making go on for ages, but still get important info included, so apologies, i do try to cover as much as i can, but i must say always use the manual, also some of the ST1100 forums are great, i use them a lot

I noticed that you didn't soak the clutch plates in oil unless you did that off camera or maybe that bike is different.
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 5 лет назад
Thanks Banditnev, well spotted, i did them off camera but silly me forgot to mention it, i did change the description to include this point

i cant remember as it was a while ago, i think it is in the manual, or if you are on facebook there are several owners club pages and there members are very helpful, i have used them often

Nice video, thanks. what is the torque needed for the centernut for the basket, and for the 5 bolts holding the clutchplates?? Do you need to remove the chain behind the basket, to remove the innerclutch cover ?? I have a broken M6 x 80 mm. bolt that needs to come out, since the clutch is leaking.
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 4 года назад
Thanks Johnnie, appreciate your comment, the torque setting for the centernut is 110NM , there isn't a torque setting in the Haynes manual for the 5 bolts, i didnt remove the chain , so cannot help you on that

Does Honda suggest the gasket going on dry Kieth? I’d be worried it would leak without a small amount of rtv. What are your thoughts?
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 5 лет назад
Thanks Northerner, i used gasket sealant as well, just a light smearing to give a good bond, i wouldn't just use a dry gasket in that situation where fluids are involved

Hey buddy, is there any particular reason for you removing the main basket? I've only ever done that when actually replacing it. I understand you forgot to mention soaking the plates first too... Bugger. Lol. Thanks for the upload. Russ
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 4 года назад
Thanks Russ, this bike is an unknown entity to me, the previous owner didn't look after it, so its a case of no stone unturned so to say, so going through it as much as i can,yes forgot to mention the soaking the plates, i did put it in the description but not many read that,

Hi. I have been following your videos on RU-vid and thanks for the time you spend. It helps a lot. I know it is an old video but lately, I was changing the clutch disks on my Honda ST1100 and after all done my clutch lever was really hard like a brake lever. I bleed the clutch but it didn't help. Looks like the lifter plate can't move. as far I understand the lifter will pull the pressure plate decoupling the disks(please correct me if I am wrong) but it seems like the whole thing is already pulled. I was thinking maybe the screws holding the lifter don't have to be screwed to the end so the springs can have room to move. Any idea that can cause this issue? Thanks again for your videos. Marcio

Thanks, glad they help, it was the first time working on an St11 so big learning curve, it was a while ago. but make sure the 2 triangle arrows line up as that will cause issues and the lever will be solid. see video at 6.11 and also that the locater dowel and the basket(see 7.49) line up, esle the basket will sit forward causing problems

Did you pre-soak the clutch plates before assembly or is it not necessary on the ST1100 ?
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder

Thanks Wheeliebow, yes, i pre-soaked the plates for probably an hour or so, but forgot to mention it on the video
