Thanks for your video 👍 I’ll be performing this task soon on the wifey’s 06 Odyssey. Our mechanic who usually does this work for us has retired and moved out of state. So, I’ll be doing this on my own since he’s the only mechanic I’ve have ever trusted working on our vehicles for the last 20 years. The new guy who bought his shop reminds me of a used car salesman who would nickel and dime to death. I have the tools and some knowledge, but never replaced a timing belt on a six cylinder. With your video and and a Haynes book for reference, I’m confident that I’ll be able to perform this task 🙏

@@mikeb5267 how in the heck did it rotate so far? And how did you fix it, just rotate it back by hand?
@mikeb5267
@mikeb5267 Год назад
@@silversurfer702 it rotated that far due to compression in the cylinders. I moved it a little bit and then it jumped due to the compression stroke. And yes, I rotated it back by hand, no damage was done. However, after the job I found out that they have devices called cam grapplers that will keep that from happening so you can rotate it in smaller increments and get it lined up right. Unfortunately, mine lasted a few months after repair and then the belt completely snapped and the engine was ruined.

Wow I feel very fortunate after watching this video and reading comments. I have a 2012 Accord 3.5 with 255K miles, just realized I should have changed the timing belt, water pump etc. 150K miles ago. To get that far without the belt breaking. I have heard recently some tapping noise while starting and researched to determine the tensioner is likely the culprit not providing constant tension. Auto shop quoted me $1400, i'm doing myself for $400 for OEM kit. Great video thank you so much. Do you recommend replacing motor mount while everything is off. And also the tension pulls for the serpentine belt should i just replace while it's out? Pretty sure with these miles just do it right?

One other question, is it ok to re-use the gasket on the timing cover when you put it back? It's just to keep dust out right?
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 2 года назад
Wow you're very luckly. Change it asap. Most likely both are worn out, doesn't hurt to change them. Timing belt cover gaskets don't need to be changed, just make sure they are not damaged, they keep dust out of the timing belt area.

Ahh. Gotcha. So basically after installing belt you want to turn crank until the lines go around and all line up top dead center? Great video btw. About to tackle this job on 3.0.

Question, there seems to be some ambiguity on whether the idler and tensioner pulleys should be replaced. I know they're moving parts but just don't seem like much of maintenance items. Do these fail or something?? Thanks!

Thanks for the video perfect. Got a couple questions. The if I wanna reuse the tensioner how can I do it without the pin ? Any idea ? 2- if the car runs normal and when replacing is there any chance one of pulleys not lined up 100% ? If so can I do them separately ? 3- how much coolant do I need ? I have got odyssey 2011 TE Thanks in advance
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 3 года назад
If you don't have the pin a drill bit will work. If one of the pulleys are off by a tooth or two, just rotate it counterclockwise to the mark. 2 jugs of honda coolant needed. Everything you need is listed in the description.

@@MrRangerZr1 thanks for reply . So all the pulleys will need just one adjustment and will move all together ?(I mean If the belt off and each one need different adjustment can I adjust separately ? Or there is noway each one different position and just one alignment movement needed ? Coolant 2 gallon pre mixed ?
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 3 года назад
@@Mr.Laymoun if you follow my video nothing should move, but say if it does for whatever reason just align it back. Honda coolant only, 2 jugs.

@@MrRangerZr1 thanks very much ... something came up in my mind ... but seen videos they all do same like when remove crank pulley they adjusted .... why I don’t just remove old belt and install the new one direct ? Is they step mandatory or it’s optional in case the teeth wasn’t aligned with time ?

Hi, PLease help !!! My parents are old and they bought a car (2006 VW Touran 1.9TDI) and were advised to change the tensioners, belts and the water pump and immediately after the change, the car no longer idles smoothly, it has some ticks, but only when idling, from what my father told me. I am thinking, the proble is only from these parts that were not used in the propper way with the propper tools, because will be too much of a coincidence to be something else right after these were changed. Can be a belt too tight, or bad Water pump ( it is a HEPU pump) even if its new...? Please HELP, what do you think? With respect, Gabe B.

My Slm Vehicle My 2007 model CLIO 3 1.2 16v gasoline vehicle does not exceed 90 km at 3000 rpm on long distances. It does 115-120 km over 4000 rpm, but the car screams a lot. As far as I learned, when the last gear is changed, it easily goes over 100 km at normal speed. Is this true, how much is the estimated cost? Is there a suitable gearbox for this if we put another gearbox? I would be very grateful if you could answer my questions. Thank you.
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 Год назад
Like the RPMs stay high even in the highest gear? That's how some cars are, you maybe able to use a different gearbox but you need to figure out the electrical side of things too (ECU)

This is a great video. I am no mechanic but learning. Sorry for the silly question, but anyone know if a 05 accord v6 is a clearance engine? Lol I’m about to replace my belt but I’m dying to know if any valves are bent 🤒
@MrRangerZr1

No question is silly. All J series Honda v6 are interference. The only way you'll have bent valves is when your timing belt snaps or someone purposely set the timing wrong with 3+ teeth.
