Because it have a v4 engine but at 360º each explotion and both paralel piston run in it, and the vfr 800 have each expltion on 270º like a CP crankshaft it sounds lovely

vfr1200f, designed to drive thousands of kilometers in comfort and silence with highest honda reliebilty and minumal maintainence (drive shaft) , for that it has an amazing super smooth 1200 V4 engine. Aprilia RSV4, who is also amazing for other reasons is designed to be ridden fast in corners and circuits, how are these comparable? Touring bikes souuld be a silent as possible.

@@DrBeastage OK forget Aprilia, you're missing the point. Imagine if it had the sweet sound of Honda VFR800, how's that for a comparison? Listen to both and tell me you don't hear the difference. I don't like or want the obnoxiously loud exhausts either but i prefer my bike not to sound like a chainsaw. The sound is a big miss for otherwise a great bike.

Definitely! The gear-driven cam 750 and 800 FI engines sound best, I'd say the 02-09 Interceptors like mine are a close second.

I haven't owned a Busa but have ridden with plenty while on a Blackbird. For street riding you need to get past what's quicker as the difference between the Busa and Blackbird was negligible. I think the blackbird had better manners than the Busa which really only attracted the better riders at least with the people I rode with. Probably a ratio of 10 Blackbirds to every Busa. I now own a VFR too and while it handles brilliantly with typical Honda manners it is a harder bike to ride due to its engine gearbox characteristics. The VFR has a high compression engine 98 octane and is stupidly quick but it's more work. See above where I've made another comment on this.

Micro Mario. That's a tough question but I'll have a go at answering it but only from an Australian perspective as I couldn't really comment on the rest of the world. Any comparison between a Blackbird and VFR is only valid after sorting out the suspension on the Blackbird. On both of my Blackbirds I put heavier forks springs in and changed the oil weight down from 10 to 7.5 and didn't touch the valving. On one I replaced the rear shock with a gas shock and the other I changed out the Showa spring to a heavier one to suit my weight. I'm over 100 kgs and the difference these changes made to the bike were massive. On one ride I was with another Blackbird on a fast twisty section of road when he pulled over to investigate what was wrong with his bike as he'd been on the ragged edge keeping up with me. He hadn't done anything to his suspension so we swapped bikes for a while and he couldn't believe the difference. In Australia there are still a number of Blackbirds being sold with low K's at bargain basement prices. The second one I bought was 10 years old with 17000 K's on it. Sounds too good to be true and it was because the thing had spent 10 years dying in a garage from lack of use and servicing. I ended up spending a couple of thousand changing out the tyres, chain and sprockets along with all fluids. Things like the swing arm bearings and steering head were dry etc etc. Plugs, valve timing and the list goes on. The only real mod I did was a radiator stone guard after watching my original Blackbirds radiator get mashed up over the years. Anyway after all that I expect to get at least a couple of hundred thousand K's out of the bike now without anything more than a cam chain replacement. If you want to do burnouts add a lot of clutches to the list too. My mechanic regularly services a Blackbird with 450,000 K's on it. So onto the VFR although I've only done 30,000 K's on mine. In Australia back in 2010 when this bike first came out they were selling for about $12,000 more than they are today which made them about the most expensive thing on 2 wheels and sold accordingly. Coupled with that no one wanted an automatic bike and mine is the manual version. I never really investigated the first models but I think they had some issues and even mine a 2015 bike had a recall to have the entire shaft drive replaced as some were lunching themselves and locking up the rear wheel. Even after the price drop very few of these bikes are sold today probably from the earlier stigma of being way over priced and no one wants anything sold in an auto version. I once went on a social ride of about 50 bikes and 9 of them were Blackbirds. I wouldn't see 9 VFR's in a year today but to be fair the same applies to Busa's. The absolute plus's of the VFR over the Blackbird is the frame and suspension out of the box without the heat problems of the Blackbird barbequing your ankles in traffic. The Blackbirds had raw power everywhere while the VFR will have you managing your revs with a lot more gear changes. These characteristics probably makes the Blackbird a quicker bike. Then there's the TC and ABS of the VFR sorely lacking on the Blackbird. My honest opinion would be to go for the Blackbird if you like going for quick squirts on the weekend mixing it up in the twisties but for commuting and long trips with the occasional twisties then the VFR would win everytime with its 2 - 3" less reach giving a much more comfortable riding position. Everything on both bikes works really well and with a decent set of tyres (Pilot road 4's at the moment) instilling confidence the feedback through the bars is typically Honda, Incredible. Sort out the suspension on a Blackbird and then both bikes will have you forgetting you even have suspension on your bike. The only mods I've done to the VFR was a stone guard and a centre stand. On both bikes I don't like the block colouring so both of my Blackbirds were the 2 tone blue that came out in 2005 which wasn't sold in the states and my Vfr is a 2 tone black and white with a top box to match. I've seen very few examples of this colour scheme for the VFR on the net.

At last a sensible repliey, I own a vfr 1200, don't know what I'd swap it for. The VFR is an amazing machine

Speedos' are 10% optimistic. These bikes are governed to a 'true' 250kph/155mph irrespective of what the speedo' says.

Optimistic or not 281km/h is NOT 253mph like you mentionned in your first comment.

The VFR has a 7% speedo error just like its predecessor the Blackbird. If the speedo is showing 280 then you're really only doing 260kph in the real world. Sorry to burst your bubble.

But i do agree a higher compression crossplane engine sounds very good. But honda was never about that sound. The merrits of honda build leave yamaha behind with much to desire since their very early production years. I am sure You know better
