Honda XL250 vs Yamaha TT500 vs Honda XR500
timpongraz.wix...
This drag race between 3 classic vintage 4 stroke bikes was filmed at a friends property on a drag strip. The bikes include: A 1982 Honda xr 500 rc, 1976 Yamaha TT500 and a 1979 Honda xl 250s . The footage during the drag race was filmed with a GoPro HD Hero 2.
This video is actually from my old channel that I decided to upload again after I touched it up a bit. Adding a little intro and fixing up particular bits that weren't up to standard.
You might be able to tell that these videos were spaced out over many weeks. We were riding purely for fun, we're not professionals in anyway in terms of our riding ability so please don't expect too much haha.
The songs played in this video are:
The Glitch Mob - Seven Nation Army Remix (The White Stripes)
Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll
The Glitch Mob - We Can Make The World Stop
I hope you enjoy/enjoyed the video.
Don't forget to keep an eye out for the next race between the Honda xr500 and a Husqvarna xc250. 2 stroke vs 4 stroke ;)

Nice bikes! The XL250/500s was my favourite model back in the 80's but never got one til years later. Now have 2 x 250's and a 500 all scored cheap (one free!) All on the road, look scrappy though. have seasonal rego to afford to ride them but the best thing is so many parts are interchangeable.
@focusondetailing3855
@focusondetailing3855 7 лет назад
They're a great bike. If I didn't get the Husqvarna my next bike from the xl250 would've been a 1979 xl500. Fun and easy to ride just like the 250 but more power!! It's good that you've got a few as when I was looking I couldn't find many for sale. I'll get one eventually though
@rossbrumby1957

The first 250 I got at the scrap metal yard missing fuel cap, tail light and blinkers for$50. Since, full rebuild. No.2 was given to me as a parts bike but got it going next day and motor is really good. Cost $75 ready to rego! Paid$350 for the 500- barn find 10+years hidden. Get a lot of fun riding any of them around the tracks near wallaroo sa.

+fnsawgun The TT 500 and XR 500 are really something to ride and in a straight line and climbing is where they come into a league of their own. You'll have to keep an eye out when the 2 stroke goes head to head with the 4 stroke in another drag. They're both awesome bikes and are evenly matched so it should be interesting.

I can attest to this. I also had a high compression piston in mine. Along with a new carb and exhaust system, aluminum swingarm and shocks from White Bros. Back then they were the people to go to, for the parts to really make these XT / TT 500's really pull. I've had my right knee launched into the handlebars a few times. You wont be riding until the pain goes away. It loved twisty dirt roads to hang the back out. Even with the extra weight, it would walk away from a much lighter Honda CR250.

Unfortunately it's pretty tricky for me to get it all organised and start filming as I don't live where the bikes are and I can't just ride around the property surrounding the house which makes it hard to create decent footage. It's even worse as soon the XR500 will be sold BUT I'm hoping to make a video of the TT500 vs the Husky instead. Thanks for the comment man!

I had no Idea that 500 Honda was such a dog. The way everyone spoke about it, I thought it would blow that TT away. I have a 76 TT500 just like that one but with a 36mm Mikuni and a tuned stainless header. And a YZ 426.

@thomasclerke4725
@thomasclerke4725 2 года назад
@@sevendyseven4090 I will have to say the Honda is a more advanced design. The O'l TT is a giant lawnmower engine. This one I have was raced back in it's day. It was a desert racer. The head angle rather shallow but stable at speed . When it is raced on a tight course that head angle makes itself apparent in tight corners. You have to throw it down pretty hard. The four stroke has traction with a big knobby and will pull out of corners pretty well. It is a light bike for its day 262 lbs . A few magnesium parts. The frame is small it looks like a 250. Suspension pretty limited. Gearing compared to modern bikes is also different with a low first gear. The power band is like an old muscle car. They are old school long stroke motors. The 426 is a big bore short stroke motor. It revs up quick and has a broad power band. I do like the TT for woods and hill climbing. Yamaha got the head angle and swing arm geometry right on the 426. It will cut the corners with no effort and hold the same arc even when the front wheel comes up. The 426 is smooth with a hard edge. Shocks and forks with just two adjustments made it stay level with the horizon on all surfaces. I bought it new. It's enough bike for me.

Yamaha TT500 had the best motor or those they do not know. It was not the most powerful but the motor was built all with ball bearings including the camshaft had ball bearings where Honda had all kinds of top end problems because the camshaft rode in the head and not only that but also one cam opened four valves. Yamaha was so much better there was no camparing the two

For sure! It can be a brute of a bike but still fun and can be good for just cruising around. I would say go for it! The most challenging thing about riding a tt500 would probably starting it. Do that wrong and you could find yourself getting thrown over the handle bars haha. Still an awesome bike and will definitely turn a lot of heads.
