On the Amish Balm I get an anise smell. I emailed the factory in Pa. and was told the scent is derived from anise and cedarwood...Great video for some awesome products...
Honest Amish is the best. Best bang for your buck for sure. Ive been using it for a few months now. I love that u can go down to your local walmart and get both the oil and balm. My first product ive used and probably my last.
My first experience with Honest Amish was this morning. I purchased both the oil and balm yesterday afternoon at Walmart. I combed in the oil first this morning after a beard rinse and then after a five minute pause I followed it with an application of brushed in beard balm. I’ve been wearing it all day and I really like it. It hasn’t been overly greasy and it not only made my beard nice a shiny but it held my styling nicely all day. So Honest Amish gets two thumbs up from me. The black licorice scent is an added bonus for me!
Terrance-Thanks for watching and the comment. I 100% agree with you. Best bang for the buck and a nice, natural scent. Possibly the beast "in-beard" feel of them all. Stop back by and comment if you have any thoughts on my other videos.
When i started to give a damn bout my beard. I spent 30 on cremo products & 30 on honest Amish. Any day my gf doesn’t like my crazy scents honest Amish is the way to go for me
Let me know ,how to use both oil and balm as a weekly schedule?is it most effective morning time or night time? Thanks for your video about Oil and Balm. 👍🏼
J.A. - BOTH. I use oil twice a day. Once after shower in the morning and again before bed. My routine is: MORNING: (1) Shower using a good beard wash or co-wash. (2) Towel dry. (3) Apply oil to skin under beard and massage in to skin and beard and comb beard. (4) Let oil soak in for about 5 minutes. (5) Apply balm and style as desired. EVENING: (1) Rinse or co-wash beard. (2) Apply oil to skin under beard and massage in to skin and beard and comb beard. (3) Let oil soak in for about 5 minutes. (4) Optional: apply beard butter.
Nicholas-Yes. It's very good. I consider the original balm to be more like a butter. The Heavy Duty balm is a really good, medium hold balm. I still say that if I was limited to one brand, I would pick Honest Amish. I'd use the premium oil, the original balm as a butter, and the heavy duty balm as my daily balm.
Great question. None of these products will help grow a "longer" or "thicker" beard. They will promote a healthier beard and give the appearance of thickness. The balm, especially this balm, does 2 things: (1) Hydrates the beard hair making it healthier, reducing breakage and split ends making the beard look fuller; and (2) provides a light hold.
I usually just apply the oil directly onto my cheeks and let the drops drip onto my beard, then rub thoroughly into my beard. I feel like it’s a waste to rub it in your hands. You probably lose over half of it that way
Thanks for watching and the comment. I know a lot of guys who do it the way you do. It's a good application process. I rub it to the hands in mainly because I also will apply it to my head and elbows in the mornings.
Great video! Some interesting facts about the company. Honest amish is like a "goes without saying " company. Most people have and use it. Keep up the good work bud!
Thanks for watching and the comment. It took me awhile to try AA just because of all the hype. I have come to love the oil and I use the balm as butter a couple nights a week.
Bryan-Thanks for watching! The heavy duty balm has a much higher beeswax content for a better hold. The original balm is much more like a butter where the heavy duty is a firm balm. Both feature the same oils.
Does this work on goatee's and will help my goatee feel less pubey. Its not a big bulb or anything but it is more then dirt on my face. I am a highschool student and not trying to grow a full viking beard but i want my goatee feeling soft and less bristle like. Also bomus question, can you use this for your mustache too or just beard or goatee?
Paulie Carter thanks my man. I have to say that I was impressed. I didn’t believe the hype at first but after using it for a few weeks I was a believer.
@@MichaelPhelpsMedia I agree 100% for that price and size for such an amazing product it's definitely something to keep in stock. Plus I use that when I don't want something to strong of a scent in my beard.
Paulie Carter it’s been my daily work horse for a couple of years. The heavy duty balm is now hard to find. But I found a work around...I add some suavaceto strong hold hair gel to the regular balm and it works really nice
E-Rock, Thanks for watching and the comment. Honest Amish would probably be what I would pick if I was limited to one company (it's not my favorite BUT it's a Jack of all trades).
Just bought this an this is a butter. But I feel they didn’t want to take the name like everyone. Nothing like my other balms. But a lot like my butters. But with a very beard oil feel when melted.
Anyone have their Amish balm get too hot and melt/separate? It seems fine once emulsified between the hands, but the texture in the tin is totally ruined and gets a little messy. Any solution to bring it back to original texture?
Yes. Happens a lot in the summer. Shake it up well and then throw it in the refrigerator for an hour and you'll be good to go. I usually put any balm/butter in the fridge for an hour when I get a shipment in the summer before I open it.
I always keep mine in the lowest drawer in the fridge. It stays fresh and texture is better. I tried a balm from the bearded barber on ebay, that's another nice scent too.Not to strong or perfumey.
Hey. What's up? Hope you're holding well and keeping safe out there brother. So I have a couple of questions. One, are their products flammable and two, I'm thinking about treating my grays (not sure) so how safe is it to use them on a dyed hair/beard?
Jo-Beard oil is not highly flammable. The beard hair is way more of a fire hazard. If you do color your beard, I'd suggest a simple 70% coconut and 30% castor oil blend. You can buy high quality oils on Amazon and make your own. I have heard that HH oil can discolor colored beards, but I've never seen it myself.
That's kinda funny, I'm not going to disagree with you, but the first few times I used their oil I couldn't help but find the scent familiar. It was driving me nuts for the first three days, than I realized it reminded me of black licorice.
Great video and great info. Quick questions for you...how often do you use the oil and balm? Daily? My beard is so thick and coarse, it's hard to control. Any ideas/tips?
Thanks for the nice comment. That's a great question. Here's what I do and my best suggestion: In the mornings I shower and use "co-wash" (i.e. a beard conditioner instead of beard shampoo-there are some good ones out there-I like Uncle Donnie's) then I use oil and balm-usually a heavy balm like Luxurious bastard because it has great hold. At night I use oil again followed by a "whipped" type of beard butter-usually Beard Octane. Twice or three times a week I'll also use a good beard shampoo in the shower before the co-wash. That will clean the beard of excess oil but doing it only twice a week will make sure you don't overly dry the beard. That has made my beard when it's long, much more manageable and much softer.
Just bought these products, my beard has been coming in pretty quick these last few months. What should I clean my beard with prior to applying? And should I use these products daily?
Apply about 3-4 drops of oil to a clean beard. Thoroughly massage into skin underneath beard. Wait 5 minutes, then apply about a dime size of the balm and comb in. You should be all set!
Nice review the oil also comes in premium blend and the balm in bayou blend for those people looking for a different scent. Nice video I love honest Amish because their products work as advertised.
James, thanks for watching and the comment. I have switched to the premium blend oil and love it. I haven't tried the Bayou blend yet but will order some and give it a try! You're dead on when you say their products work.
Really nice video! Really good background on the compnay and product contents. I have used both the Honest Amish Heavy Duty Beard Balm and Beard Oil. Both are great products that are really natural, smell nice, and are not too oily at all. They work well together and smell very pleasant without too much of a strong/pungent smell. Thanks for the video! Andrew
For night time hands down the the Beard Octane Butta. The Honest Amish regular balm is great and does have decent conditioning properties, but for night time deep conditioning it can't compete with the Octane butta.
Sophisticated Neanderthal I will be trying those. I’m having a problem when I try and add lcw to my cart my cart stays at zero. Not sure why. I should get stuff next week. 👍excited to try liquid gold
Totally agree. I have tried a couple different kinds of beard oil, and Honest Amish was in fact my first beard oil, and love it so much that I stopped trying after 2 other brands. Both products are by far the best on the market. Thank you for your video!!!!
Bandar They won’t help with “growth” per se. They will promote a healthier beard, and will give the beard some thickness. The only proven method to help with actual growth is Biotin. Biotin has been shown to promote beard growth in most people.
Sweet video I ordered both the oil and balm em I supposed to add both the oil first then the balm or it can be the oil one day and balm another? I saw you applied both thanks in advanced!
Jonathan-Thanks for the comment. The best way to use the oil and balm is as follows: With your beard damp, apply the oil to the skin under the beard and comb beard out (about a dime sized amount rubbed into your fingers and fingertips). Let that soak in for about 5 minutes. Then tale about a nickel to quarter sized amount of balm, rub it into your hands really well, then coat the beard. Again, comb your beard and style it as you want to. I would use oil everyday and then add balm when you want a little extra hold or conditioning. PS-If you need more hold, try the Heavy Duty Balm from Honest Amish.
Appreciate the response I will definitely be doing that my oil and balm arrived today I applied just the oil today but tomorrow I will be applying both , the oil gives it some nice shine can’t wait to see how it will look and feel with both thanks allot great vid and sweet beard !
Here's the only link I could find. The info in the video comes from HH Incorporation filings where they are listed as subsidiary brands. www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/dr-organic-ginseng-shave-beard-oil-60038338
Great review!! You were spot on with both products. Honest Amish is my go to oil. I do like the balm but more as you said, a beard butter. I use the balm at night after my shower/before bed.My beard is super soft when I get up in the morning! Two fantastic products!!!
Amal- Yes. I start using the oil about 4 days into the growth to keep the skin hydrated and reduce itch. I'll start using the balm as well when I get to about 1/2 inch of growth.
Albert-Now that they have a "Heavy Duty Balm" it's a true balm. I just use the original balm as butter and the HD Balm as regular balm. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Yes. Put the oil in the beard, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then apply the balm. I suggest always applying oil before balm or butter. Oil for the skin, balm or butter for the beard hair.
Brian- Oil will not help the beard grow faster, longer or thicker. It will reduce itch and promote a healthier beard. Try a Biotin supplement to help promote faster growth.
John-Thanks for watching and the question. That's a really really good question for many reasons. As a young man starting to grow a beard (or even for us old fogies) starting the process can be frustrating. The best answer I can give you is 'YES AND NO." What I mean by that is this is a great oil to use for beard HEALTH. Unfortunately, no topical oil will help you grow a beard faster, longer or fuller. I'd certainly recommend this oil and suggest you use it daily focused on the skin below the beard. That will help keep the skin moisturized and reduce itching. I'd suggest you look for a quality vitamin called "Biotin." That's the only supplement that has been shown to help promote hair growth. It doesn't work for everyone, but it's worth a try. Biotin is a vitamin B12 enzyme. You can get this one (amzn.to/2Z3DNU9) which is a quality product. If you try the Biotin, be patient. See if over a month it helps the hair grow faster.
Sophisticated Neanderthal Thanks for the response and clarification! I’ll definitely try the biotin and probably the oil, I’ll keep an update on any differences. Thank you again and keep up with the videos!
Can't go wrong with it. How do you like it? Thanks for watching and the comment. Even today I stand by my comment that if I could only use one beard product brand, this would be it!
@@MichaelPhelpsMedia its great, my favorite oil so far. The odor isnt bad but I personally could go without it however its so faint that I could care less. Thanks for the review! I'm going to keep buying this!
Nesty Ness that will happen in the summertime. I always suggest, when it’s hot outside, place new balm and butter orders in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before opening as soon as you get them.
One of my first purchases just before Amazon US stopped shipping 'down under'! I love the oil on a lazy day or for nighttime, paired with the heavy duty balm. I also have the beard wax if I need a bit of control! Great video sir! 👌👊
Rob, Thanks for the comment. I didn't hear Amazon stopped shipping your way. That sucks. Off topic but Australia is at the top of my "Bucket List." I need to try the Amish Heavy Duty Balm and the wax! Does www.honestamish.com/ ship directly to you?
@@MichaelPhelpsMediathe US site stopped shipping direct but Amazon AU will now ship but the unit cost is much higher, plus sales tax and shipping! I can buy direct from Honest Amish but the same costs are added!
Thanks for watching and the compliment. I'm letting it go for a year to see where it is at that point. I'm at 4 1/2 months now. It's getting a little shaggy and wavy.
@@MichaelPhelpsMedia Looking fine to me SN glad you are going long and hope you keep the length at year end. Try doing a handlebar with the moustache when it's long enough. That would be a look with the big beard 🧔
