(For example they may be waiting all of 2 seconds for you to complete a task that takes 10 and they'll begin to rush you and scoff insisting that you're holding them up. Or they might try to hand you something when you're busy with hands full and begin pushing it at you like you're supposed to drop everything for them. ) I'm told it's cultural and even in China this is the thinking. It's ugly, but is a thing one can observe about another that can quickly tell you what that person has done. In other words, cauliflower ear = the dude knows how to fight probably.
Random comment, but Punching, or even more effective if done right and forcefully enough, or open-hand slapping someone’s ear is a very effective way of defending oneself against an attacker. It’s painful, causes disorientation, and can be effectively done by anyone of any size to anyone of any size. It’s a weak point on all. It’s also a good move, the open hand version, because it only requires gross motor skills, which unless trained, nearly all people lose in adrenaline fueled situations. Google it and practice it. Might save your life one day.

My sons TKD teacher was the kindest, most respectful, non-threatening human being ever. He was also an incredibly stunning and surprising fighter. He could definitely mess someone up, and they wouldn’t see it coming. He ABSOLUTELY would help someone up after and want to take them under his wing.
