Fun fact: the word celebrity (with a star on top of letter "i") at the beginning was actually handwritten by IU using her left hand.

she is a real artist and always brings a message with her songs.

Unfortunately the lyrics that were translated weren't translated that well. It's still relatively accurate but some lines are translated in the wrong order so it gets a bit confusing when changed to English. The real meaning is beautiful. The beginning should be : living on the edges of society, a slouch on your shoulders, a troubled outsider. You're different in your walk, your style, even in the playlist playing through your earphones, everything is in the minor key. --- shows that this person is different. Persons style, walk and music taste is unique, not the mainstream popular stuff. She/he listens to sad music in the minor key instead of the upbeat popular songs of today. She/he is different. Then , one part should be more like " You have no idea that this bygone love poem is written for you who has still not fully bloomed". Or that near the beginning it should actually be "you have no idea that these bright lights are shining on you, whose head is bowed towards the ground" ( very rough translation- will work on it more to make it clearer).. essentially she's saying that this person shines bright even though they may not know it because they're upset/ in pain ( due to hate for being different or being bullied for being different - shown by the head bowed down). Atleast that's my take on the line.. And then she goes on to say "it's okay to take your time to realise that. But I hope you see/notice that You're the one and only celebrity" Part towards the end is actually ( roughly) "your footprints are like constellations. Each timid step (you take) sketches a drawing that leads me on this path to meet you, alone." Also this song was written for one of her friends who's in the spotlight. Who's different and has been hated for it. She's writing to that person, her self, and anyone else who's felt hated for being different and is saying "you're not weird, you're a unique star, a bright and wonderful person". She did say that she is trying something new musically with this song. She also said in her album intro that at first she wrote this song for her "odd friend", but then she realized that what she was writing also applies to herself, and then she thought that maybe it actually applies to everyone because everyone is a little odd in our own way. Basically she's telling us to embrace our uniqueness and that we are her celebrity. Let me just cry because she is the sweetest, like always. And the "the path along the dotted line" in the lyrics, I am actually thinking about that dotted white line on her hand in Eight MV that represents her age back then. So basically it means her life or the life she has experienced or in this context, it probably means "meeting 'you' is already written in my fate/life", idk it's just my thought.

Such a heartworming + catchy song IU said in her interview that she wanted to combine her sincerity and stylish side on this album. and I think this song portraits that mindset perfectly

The song is a love song to her fans, telling us that we are special in her eyes, and that WE are her celebrity. It asks us to know that we are loved. It’s a request to love ourselves. The MV, however, is the illustration of her journey of how she herself came to love herself. It’s constantly shown how she sees another version of herself, who is a stranger to herself. In the end, she follows this stranger/IU, only to find a mirror. It’s symbolic that this person she has been chasing all along was inside her all along. Once she realized this, she’s able to smile in the spotlight, rather than feeling like she needs to hide from the press she was hiding from earlier. The message is poignant, in the wake of losing so many of her friend. She’s imploring her fans to love and cherish themselves as she’s learned to do herself.

This type of song is quite new to her. She is trying a new concept for this song, a concept she never tried before. The writing "Celebrity" at the start, IU write that with her Left hand & in the lyrics you can see the lyrics saying "You're a star drawn with the left hand" Also in the dance break you can see IU drawing a star using her left hand Some people hate this song, but for me this song is good. IU does have a signature style when it comes to music, so her home base is great attention to instrumentals, lyrics, vocals and meaning full lyrics. In recent years, she's been trying a lot of different genres and styles we didn't used to see before. When idols make comebacks they promote a concept they're trying out. With IU, her comebacks, in my opinion showcase her growth as a lyricist, producer, composer and as a singer. When I hear a new song of hers, I hear the growth in her vocals. She sings with so much flexibility. That's why it's great to experience this, in this fandom in, particular because we get to hear just how diverse her voice is in the different styles she takes on, but like you mentioned, it undeniably still has an IU feel to it.

Since left-handers are a minority, I almost thought that she was addressing that the person she was singing about was very unique. Because right hand is 'normal' and left hand isn't. Most uaena predict that she will drop her full album in February or March, and maybe promotions through April (if any) because in the 2nd half of this year she will be busy filming Dream movie overseas, and if the situation allows then she might have a concert tour at the end of the year as her usual routine in the past years

Actually iu music is always evolved throughout her album, she always style-changing be it a very distinctive one or just slightly change, and she always like adding particular music instruments in her songs, that's why if u really dive into her past song including her b-sides it's so diverse, theatre-musical influenced, jazz swing bossa nova influenced, RnB, folks, indie, pop, alternative rock, and ballad as her forte (her emotion delivery is just *chef kiss*) So uaena always welcome and like her new music in every comeback bcuz she just could nail every genre perfectly without losing her usual character/ sound. And I guess what u felt about experiencing her music evolvement in this comeback is what uaenas felt all these years haha. At this point, I think she doesn't have the ability to release bad music

This song was written for herself and her fans. The meaning of a star drawn with the left hand is not perfect, but it means shining star. The scene where she finds herself and watches her in the music video is her shining self that she didn't know. In the middle scene, the meaning of dieting imagination means that as we all get older, we naturally lose our dreams and individuality. To a unified society. But eventually, in the mirror of the last scene, she realizes that the shining person was her. Although she appears in the music video, it can be all of us.

I guess IU is so underrated in the world (of course not in Korea though). The lyrics of her songs have deep meanings and I feel like she is telling me with her songs.

If you realize, when 7:03 dance part she actually draw star using her left hand! Also, she will release live clip (maybe dance practice as well lol who knows) on 29th and I hope you will react to that video too later.

This song made me very happy. As for a dance practice, we got one with "Bbibbi", even though in her MV she had only a short choreo. In this MV she even has dancers! In my opinion dance practice wouldn't be unexpected at all.

I remember when I used to go to Loyola University, I would bump into a ton of Korean girls attending the Art institute of Chicago, and I recall a lot of them end up going back to Korea into the fashion or entertainment industry and create clothes, makeup, and music videos. I remember being invited to their events/shows and it is very similar to all these Korean music video vibes with everything I mentioned above. I recall being very fascinated with their creativity back then, and I'm so glad they are bringing this to the Kpop world. I also remember dating this one Korean girl that attended the art institute, and her parents were renting out a store in a strip mall where she had the entire store to herself, and she had all these drawings everywhere that she drew. There was one in particular, and huge doll looking girl, mind it was nighttime around 1am, and she tells me she had to go to the bathroom. While just standing there, I am just so facinated with this cute looking drawing of this doll looking girl. Something caught my attention, and there was a glare in one of the doll looking girls eyes, and it was an evil version of her. I am freaked out a bit, but this is the type of creativity I remember, so I'm not surprised how creative all these Kpop music videos are today.

I think that your analysis is very clever! I'm one of the people that are not really into the Kpop (I start listening to IU becouse she has a more "retro" vibe), but I'm not desappointed by this song! Even this is not my favorite style, I can really appreciate it because it doesn't "flat" (I don't know if it's the right word...) the meaning of the song or the typical IU style, but it gives it more value!
