This song is about South Korea's dictatorship era The boy is citizens and The girl is democracy

I love this song! There are 2 MVs for this song, each sang by IU and Seotaiji himself. Exact same song, but IU's MV is the story from the boy's perspective, while Seotaiji's from the girl's. Read the explanation somewhere (i alr forget some details) that the MV depicting SK during period of dictatorship and war with NK. The siren is the sign of curfew where all lights must be turned off to avoid bombing by NK. The boy's outfit is a camouflage combat uniform for boys. In that period, there is like secret police/military unit in SK, where they will capture/kidnap anyone suspicious or violating rules for interrogation (and allegedly tortures), many people went missing and never heard of again. This is what happened to the girl and her entire family in the MV. If i am not mistaken, Sogyeokdong is the name of area where the secret police hq is allegedly located.

Sogyeok-dong is the neighborhood where Seo Taiji lived when he was young. The song contains memories of the time of night curfew and political oppression of young people during under the military dictatorship in Korea. The dictator called it the "Academy Greening Project", and it is included in the music video as the sound of a radio. The incident in which the girl's house appears to have been robbed in the MV is related to the series of "Academy Greening Projects." The lyrics “Sogyeok-dong remains the same” may be a scary metaphor for an era in which we are still oppressed. Seo Taiji is a legendary Korean musician. I'm so glad he suggested IU sing this song.

The video seems to contain a metaphor for citizens who resisted dictatorship during Korea's military dictatorship in the 80s. Those who resisted then were arrested and tortured by the military, and some never returned.

Thanks for reacting to this... my favorite IU video... I think the girl died (was hung). She's probably in a rebel family who was persecuted the night they were supposed to meet.
