I think the donut at the beginning represents a never ending cycle/relationship being broken. Cause in a shape of a donut there is no end but it was finally stopped with that part of the donut getting ripped off (Dahyun broke the cycle since she bit into the donut) I love this song sm it’s definitely on the slower side of Twices songs and something different, the vocals are amazing, and the meaning can go in many different directions.

@Janus raine Angeles I disagree though. Though i dont really dwell into City Pop genre often, I think Doughnut as a song is kinda exceptional since for the most part it makes you "think deeper" into the song. The lyrics are full of metaphors; the over-all melody is melancholic and evokes a certain feeling of nostalgia; and the MV itself is mysterious (and that ending instrumental is stuck in my mind for days). So I dont think it has "no teeth". Its a good and refreshing addition to Twice's discography.

this song is so complicated when u actually look into it, like it boggles my mind.. bc it seems to be a both sad and happy reminiscent song looking back on a relationship how the girls both missed and hated the love loop they were in, saying theyd never go back but they kinda miss the sweetness the tray chaeyoung pulled out of the oven represents the sweetness among the bitterness that they remember in the end, none of that matters because the relationship is already over, and the love loop is broken which is why mina cries when she sees the donut at the crime scene, bc it evokes a bittersweet feeling of loss but also good riddance

@@KookieTokki but why does apple music say its Doughnut - EP? ah maybe they just labeled it as EP.. because three-track release can also be specified as an EP since it consist 4 songs, if the artist or label nominate this as the product type. Ditto if a release has more than six tracks and runs over 30 minutes.

Tzuyu probably sounded different because they don’t be letting her flex her vocals… but I do notice Tzuyu does get more lines in the Japanese tracks. They all did amazing! Jihyo high note put the final nail in my coffin for this song! Such a beautiful song! The melody and Adlibs at the end! Whew! Soo good!

The guy simply represents the man each of the girls "lost", hence a donut hole left by his absence. Alternatively, putting Mina in the Main character position, the "donut crime scene" is only part of the crime scene if you check it carefully, her guy may have died, putting an end to the "Love Loop", hence, Mina crying at the end. 👍

The lyric talks about a love story that is already over where the girl is remiscing everything, “just like a doughnot wondering into a love loop” it represents the girl is still in the phase where they are still in a relationship “there’s no start or end” and she don’t wanna let go of the feeling because those are the happiest days of her life “my heart has a hole in shape of you” she missed the person and all their moments together.

For me I think the mv is about a relationship that ended not by break up but death either the man or twice(leaning towards twice) and all the scene of them is their soul remembering the times they spent together with their lovers. This also support that the doughnut bite means their love hoop ended but it ends with death symbolizing the blood in the doughnut

a theory i saw is that dahyun k*lled the guy because he was romantically involved with all the other members and left her heartbroken (notice how she didn’t have a scene with him) and i saw on twitter someone saying that when she says “a space for you” with the red donut meaning there’s a space in hell for him

i actually think she killed jihyo and here's why: when they pass the tray of doughnuts around, we can see that dahyun got the chocolate one and jihyo got the white one, which is the one that's "dead", but dahyun bites the white doughnut (jihyo's) instead of her own and it bleeds(?) lol also, some other things that make me believe jihyo was killed: the hair clip that chaeyoung put on mina has the same shape as jihyo doing a snow angel, and it had that blood stain on it in the same position as it later shows on jihyo,,,, also on dahyun's part in the beginning, she makes a gun gesture with her hands and it cuts to jihyo falling, maybe it was kinda foreshadowing?? idk lmao

This song hit me hard..cuz it's like describing what I feel these days.. Like...loving & missing someone but actually missing the moments with them...that can't be replaced by anyone else... The feeling still the same but not the relationship...the relationship already end. Feeling lonely in the crowd, feeling sad but still manage to smile..must to. Complicated. 🥰🍭

I think the guy was the doughnut. Because he was with Sana at the table, and then he left Sana and sit with Momo and break up ( I think Momo became the queen of ice and replace the guy for snowman). He was with Chaeyoung while talking Tzuyu (that why Chaeyoung follow him) and when they all member was at the table Dahun discover that they all love the same guy and that was shot to Jiyho and the love that Mina had for the guy died, because he killed it

the empty hole in the middle represents a void left in the heart when someone you love is gone... the ring represents an endless love loop, the time you are so in love when you are still together ( feels like eternity, right? )... the bite represents the damage made when someone left or broken that love loop ... and then the fillings that gushes out represents the feelings that now nowhere to go since that love loop has been broken... just like a doughnut...

Did you guys notice that inside jihyo's heart in the Bridge it is not just a tunel, but the hole the other person has to fill. The same Red thing inside Jihyo's heart is the filling of the "assassinated" doughnut. It just means for me that they want to have someone fill their hearts, and twice does that with us (logo). The poor dead doughnut represents their own heart being left behind the guy on the Music vídeo that does not care abiut them at all; the doughnut is their heart with a hole and the "blood" that fills the doughnut is the love being taken away and falling apart, or the love loop breaking - they talk about missing their old love and trying to come back to that love loop of never ending love, but once the guy goes away, their heart/loop is broken... Also the overbaked doughnut scene pushing out the nine Black doughnuts from the oven, but one is beautiful and colored, may represent that they are nothing without each other (maybe a reference to Jeongyeon since she is not on the Dance scenes) But I still have doubts myself... the story of the mv is so tragic and sad: he was dating multiple members without the others knowing, they found out but forgave multiple times because they think that love is a loop, and then in the end they killed him for it. the person behind the murder is a member “Dahyun”… and Mina has been the last one in the relationship, she knows she'll be suspected, so she pretends to cry over him to make them not suspect her.

Strawberry and chocolate donuts typify love in relationship. But the white donut with filling spilled out signifies relationship without love. This is a Ballard talking about the beautiful journey of love from the beginning to the end. Even though it’s sad, it still leaves a beautiful mark in our life. Dahyun, Jeongyeon and Sana’s table have two cups suggesting they are in relationship longing for their partners. Tzuyu dances in the boyfriend’s view or longs to hear boyfriend’s voice. Chaeyoung checks to see if her relationship with the guy is still sweet (but most parts are burned). Mina couldn’t continue the loop of love as she hoped for. The saddest parts to me are when Jihyo lying on the ground as the snow angel looking to find her partner who left already and Momo dressing the snowman as her lost love (this scene corresponds to her ending shot).

Dahyun ate the white donut you see at the "crime scene", in the bridge when she says "a space just for you" after Jihyo's high note, Mina is analyzing the "killing of the love loop". Momo, though, said that the music video is kinda horror so it could also represent Dahyun dying because of the bite she takes from the donut; but I'd stick with the first interpretation.

I think the song is about someone meddling in a relationship, right? and now they are gone, and Twice is trying to find new love, but they are in this loop. The doughnut could be that person or the love as a whole, someone bit it or got in the middle of the relationship. I guess. This is probably one of my favorite Japanese releases, so good.

dahyun killed jihyo by eating her donut, in a clip we can see mina looking for jihyo the place she was bleeding from her heart and not being able to find her. as well as chaeyoung putting an angle hair clip on minas hair then a shot of jihyo dying. as well as in the end mina crying finding jihyos donut and the police sirens outside. we can also see a shot where dahyun shot jihyo threw the screen and she fell and made a snow angle on the floor.
