My problem is also with casting Sharad Kelkar as Laxmi when they could have casted an actual trans actor. Cis-gendered individuals taking up platforms meant for trans individuals is the root issue.

I'm not sure what this movie wanted to do exactly. It wanted to show trans characters in a good light, that they are one of us. However, very few moments in the movie (like Laxmi's adopted child who got an education and started a trust) showed them as human beings wanting an education. Even if you look at the climax, they're shown as extremely violent, howling all the time, having a secret festival on the beach on 'poonam ki raat'. Even if transgenders have their own festival, I'm pretty sure they celebrate it in a sober way like we do, and don't violently dance and scream and howl. So ultimately, if you're not well informed about the transgender community, you leave this movie with some mythical image of them being supernatural, wild and violent.

There was over exaggeration of slapstick comedy (which doesn't work these days). Inclusion of songs that doesn't even get you why it is there?. Didn't like the performance at all why is Kiara Advani is there? Talent like Manu Rishi and Rajesh Sharma were hanging in there. Except all, stand the fact that Sharad Kalker is brilliant thats all. The thing is they have copied the film Kanchana which was a film of 2011 so the scene like meeting abdul chacha, going to a madarsa or applying haldi were exactly same as that of Kanchana. And they didn't even think about the changes that have happened between 2011 and 2020. They could have slightly edited the script and made it into a very great film.
