This was awesome!! I think my favorite is the final chapter just bc of Crispin Glover dancing 😂 and asking for "where the hell is the corkscrew?" 😂 I will always love Adrienne King for narrating the Final Girl support Group 🥹🖤
@@katrinabrown oh my gosh not that dance scene 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I actually turned to Thomas and said “what teenagers are dancing in their living rooms at a house party with the lights on????” 😂😂😂😂😂😂 maybe it was an 80s thing?? 🤪
@@Alicia-606 Isn’t it so funny to feel like it is cozy?? But I 10000% agree now having watched them all. It’s been a few weeks since I filmed this video and I look back on the franchise fondly. I have gotten a hankering to put them on in the background because the predictability is so soothing!
I so appreciate the way you approach and analyze horror :) I had no idea there were EIGHT of these, but I've been really craving a summer camp setting lately.
First of all, I love your lipstick color! So pretty! Also, I've never watched the franchise, but I feel like this would be a great one to tackle during Summerween! Sidenote: I always enjoy your commentary and analysis on movies! You always bring up great points that I never would have thought of and give some depth to the movies beyond what we see on screen! Wishing you the best Summerween!
@@SpellboundHomestead I love that you complimented my lipstick when I alwaysss love that deep red one you wear haha. Thank you so much for your kind words. 🥰 I know not all movies are meant to be analyzed deeply but that’s what I enjoy most!! I appreciate that you appreciate that 👻
I would kind of argue that 4 and 5 have the final boy trope without having a true final girls, so I definitely get that ranking. Meg would 100% be my number one she's the best haha. Part 3 and 6 are my faves. Fun video!
Yes exactly! I think people try to force the final girls trope on this franchise and, coupled with my issues regarding female characterization, make it impossible to do a true final girls ranking. Truly it was just a way for me to discuss this franchise in a meaningful way beyond my enjoyment. Thanks so much for watching and for helping me come to terms with HOW to watch it while we were chatting in the discord. You rock, Andrew!!
Alice remains my favorite, but I was so angry about what they did with her character in Part 2. Tina is a top final girl for me, too. She is smart, resourceful, and a total badass. Great video!
They totally could have done something far better for Alice's character, I agree. At least it was Adrienne King's choice to leave due to her stalker totally ruining her safety in the spotlight 😔
This was awesome! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I was honestly nervous when I first dipped my toes into this franchise, because I’d only seen Freddy vs. Jason before having my daughter with facial differences. So, I proceeded with caution, fully expecting to cut out early if the narrative didn’t sit well with me. I haven’t watched them all, maybe the first four or so, but I had a heart for Jason in the first movie. The motherly rage! lol It’s the perfect franchise for good cheesy, bloody summer fun. 😆
Ginny with the pitchfork is so iconic but I'm definitely more an Alice fan, even though I don't consider her a classic final girl. Tina is up there for me, too. Her backstory is really the only one that positions her as Jason's equal and I liked that dynamic. Definitely opposite sides of the same coin given their back stories.🍿Thanks for the Horror Homeroom shoutout! It always makes me happy when people find it helpful with their research.🤓Have you seen In a Violent Nature? When I was watching it, I rather felt like it is what Friday the 13th would be if done today. There's definitely something happening in the switch from the neutral camera POV of the original Friday the 13th and the killer's POV in Violent Nature that I think links the films in some interesting ways. Love hearing your thoughts on the franchise!
I haven’t seen In a Violent Nature yet! I have heard of it but it hasn’t gotten a lot of hype. I’m now more intrigued to check it out after reading this so maybe it will be streaming somewhere I am subbed to next summer or else I will break and just buy it VOD haha.
This was such a great analysis of the franchise. Jason/Friday the 13th isn’t my fav franchise, though I love a camp set up. I do this Freddy vs. Jason is just a weird fun time so I recommend as just a silly watch
@@kleffgoeverafter Thank you so much for watching! 👻 I honestly think the entire franchise for me was just a silly watch so I think I will give Freddy v Jason a shot since it’s more of the same 😂😂 Thanks for the heads up!!
I havent watched any of the friday the 13th movies 🤭 maybe ill check them out after i finish scream (which im freaking lovingggg) Oh no, one of my biggest pet peeves is when movies leave loose ends! 😭 Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on each of the final girls. Such a fun way to review the movies.
Friday the 13th is such a classic, and I love watching them as like background or “vibe setting” movies. I.e. during game nights or during the Halloween party, etc. I honestly couldn’t tell you half of what goes on in the movies.. I should probably sit down and watch them all and pay attention 🤣 I know maybe the first two pretty well, but the other 500 I need to sit down and actually watch them. Loved your video (as always.) 🔪🩸
“The other 500” 😂😂😂 There are legit so many movies in this franchise but at least it’s not like Halloween with different timelines and reboots that don’t inter-connect. I remember having to research the different “branches” of Halloween film reboots a few years back 😂😂
To me, the Friday the 13th movies are fun and silly and I think they’re perfect “sleepover movies”. They’re fun watching with others because of the predictability, but also because of the campy elements and the wild kills. I think my favorite is “Jason Lives” (at least I think I am remembering the right movie) because it was so silly and self-aware and I liked the return back to summer camp vibes. But my favorite final girl is Ginny from the second movie, I liked the child psych background! I’m team Nightmare on Elm Street all the way for iconic 80s franchises but I can see why these are so popular! As always, obsessed with your research and your analysis on horror 👻
Okay sooooo does this mean it's time for me to watch the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise??? I have only seen the first one (Why is that always the case with this modern horror franchises haha). Ooo and maybe you could join me for a livestream franchise chat when I get through with them!!
@@happyhauntslibrary you absolutely should watch them! It’s a fun series overall 🤗 I would definitely be down to join you for a livestream when you get through them!
I love slashers and have always enjoyed this franchise, even when it is, at times, problematic. Your ranking is great! Once you cross into the 90's the vibes are different but one of my favorites is Jason Goes to Hell. I can't explain my love for that one 😂 If you haven't seen Slumber Party Massacre I recommend it. It's female lead both behind and in front of the camera. It fits in with the slasher genre all the while being a parody of it.
Thank you for reminding me to get to that one! Trying to find more female-created slashers after watching this franchise led me to that film. I’m so suprised it exists but I have a hunch that I will get obsessed with it 😂 I do enjoy meta horror. Whenever I get access to the other three movies I am missing in the franchise, I will be sure to stream them so I can see the gloriousness that is Jason Goes to Hell hahaha. That trailer alone 😂😂
Great review of the franchise. I personally love campy horror lol, so I didn't mind the 90's and beyond versions of the franchise. I love Jason X (when he goes to space, lol) and Freddy Vs. Jason. I am glad you had a blast and I hope you continue watching the movies past 89.
Okay I need to see Jason go to space 😂 Just when I thought the franchise couldn’t get any wilder, it GOES THERE 😂 I will 100000% continue with the franchise with your blessing now acquired!!
I just found your channel....awesome ranking !....I saw all the Friday the 13th movies in the 80s every time they were on tv when i was a little kid....I even saw part 8 in the theater....but ps....i really like your piercings and make up....your really cute..!..nothing better than a girl who like scary movies....cheers ( : - D
Hi Lauren my favorite Friday the 13th movie is part 4 and my favorite final girls are the same as yours but different order. I feel Tommy is the final boy in part 4,5 and 6 that’s why the girls don’t rule in those. This makes me want to do a marathon of these. Are you watching the rest of them? Great video!
I’m so glad I have you itching to go back and rewatch these 👻 You are 10000% right - parts 4-6 are totally Tommy-centric. I’m pretty sure I’m going to go and watch the rest of the films. People seem to enjoy the level of camp and cheese it reaches 😂 What do you think about the later films??
I love these movies! Slashers are fun. Crispin’s dancing never gets old. I love the 6 and a half hour crystal lake documentary. I’m gonna watch it with the commentary track, which will mean I’ll have watched it for 13 hours! I created a slasher character named Grim Grandpa. I thought that was unique, but then Ti West did the elderly slasher thing with X lol! I’m enjoying your vid! 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🌗🌗🌗🌗
Oh my gosh I didn’t even realize he was in these movies! 🤩 I’m so happy you speak highly of that film since it doesn’t get enough love from what I’ve heard.
I think I've only watched a couple of these, but we have them in the house somewhere so I might need to go and do a watch through for myself (my youngest teen has been on a slasher kick recently and is doing her best to watch ALL the movies in ALL the series lol I should really get her watching your channel!)
Oh my gosh what a wonderful compliment! Also you’re my mom goals 😂 I hope my library has some physical copies of the 90s and 2000s films so I can finish off the franchise. (I’m such a completionist 😂)
My husband and I are still working through the movies! Watching them all in a week and a half is crazy lol 😂 but I respect it I went in having never watched any of the films (besides trying to watch one from the 2000s.. I think they should have left it in the 80s) so I was in for a wild ride but I think they’re a lot of fun. Which surprised me because I am not a fan of gore. I definitely feel like they couldn’t make these movies today 😬😭😂 with Jason’s disability and everyone being disgusted by him and him being a murderer.. and then in part 2 they had mark javis who was in a wheelchair and I was like ok making some progress 👏🏽 but then his kill scene and he goes down the stairs I was like 🫢😭 And then In the second film they had 2 POC as background characters with no lines… and in the 3rd film the first POC to get lines were in a gang and it was so stereotypical and I was like COME ON YALL IM ROUTING FOR YOUUU WE WERE ALL ROUTING FOR YOUUU I’ve definitely come to realize that you kind of have to take these older classic movies with a grain of salt but it definitely does take away from it for me 😕 which sucks bc they’re a fun watch. It’s crazy because the 80s don’t feel that long ago but then I’m like oh wow it’s been 40 years. So far the final girls have annoyed me so bad 😭😂 it is a fun game though guessing who it will be at the beginning of the movie and usually being correct. I’m not gonna lie though I was happy to see Jason GET Ned from pt 1 (he just played too damn much), Scott from pt 2 ( was a creeper) and Shelley from pt 3(he played too damn much too lol) As always you did such a great job making this video 🖤🖤🖤
Watching these movies in 1.5 weeks is for sure crazy 😂😂 No doubt about that! I legit felt my brain melt hahaha. But then there's a turning point of acceptance and it's all downhill from there LMAO. I always enjoy your comments!! You seriously always come in with such an interesting perspectives and tons of things I didn't know before/also feel myself. I wasn't fully on board with the franchise when we got to the third film and that biker gang (of course the only POC characters in the film or even in the franchise up to that point) came into play. There's a part of me that feels like the filmmakers knew they f-ed up and then added the adorable Reggie and the little backstory with his brother before the inevitable happened LOL.
I enjoy the F13 franchise. It's comfort horror for me. I also like your #1 final girl in New blood. I think it's worth checking out the rest of the franchise. Jason X is iconic. It's Jason in space. It's so bad, it's good.
@@too_fond_of_books and there we have it - 100000% convinced to watch the rest of the franchise haha. I’ve gotten a lot of suggestions to continue the franchise so this is encouraging because I ❤️LOVE❤️ camp with all my heart 😂
@@too_fond_of_books oooo I love her in AHS! This is a horror comedy, right? I’ll have to see if it’s streaming somewhere I sub to. Thank you so much for watching and for the suggestion!! ❤️❤️❤️
Have i seen any of these movies? No. Did I watch this whole video twice? Well yes. 🙂↕️ Did you find these movies on streaming? 2:36 😂😂 9:04 ok drag her 💀 Period Tina 🙏👏💯💯
@@brooklinslibrary you’re the most amazingly supportive human on the planet!!! Why are you so good to me, friend?? 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 endless hugs!! And theyre all on HBO max haha so it was super easy to binge. A big reason why I didn’t get to the 1990s film and the two 2000s ones was that I would have to buy them. Do you have MAX?
@@happyhauntslibrary both actually! the premise hasn’t appealed to me and I tend to watch more modern horror. I’m trying to change that though and watch more classic horror.
