I'm impressed California, or school districts in California, are finally moving away from the whole word reading system, which for me was why I couldn't read until my grandparents paid for me to go to a private school that taught phonics. We've done our children a massive disservice moving away from phonics, which may take a little longer to grasp, but once they do the kids never have to guess again.
I completed this IMSE training a year ago and wanted a quick refresher. You did an amazing job summarizing the course. Can’t believe this was your first vlog. Keep it up.
I have an 8th grader that did not make it through a tough 7th grade year at an advanced school. She is at a school that applies this principal. I’m afraid she is not going to learn anything. She is not dyslexic. She simply did not study. She reads at an 11th grade level and is super smart.
I also took the IMSE comprehensive training. Mine was Zoom as well, and mine was two weeks 5-9:00 pm, so I was able to do it while teaching. It was exhausting, but so good! I saw such growth with my first grade students this year. Thanks for sharing this!
You did such a great job summarizing the OG training! I went through the training myself back in March, and I am working on implementing more and more OG strategies into my classroom.
Thank you! That's awesome that you have been implementing some of the strategies. I did at the end of the year too, but I'm looking forward to a new school year to really bring more of it in!
I have a 6 yo kindergartener in a private dyslexia/learning differences school. He is more aware of the letters ‘sound’ rather than the letter name. Any recommendations on where to go to further teach him the letters NAME?
I have heard GREAT things about this training, unfortunately my district paid for me to do a 30 hour online course (pre-recorded video - not live zoom..) which did not provide many resources, just letter cards. There was no hands on, tactile, kinestetic training.. I found you because I need MUCH supplemental training in order to fully understand Ortin Gillingham.
I did really enjoy the training! You may be able to find more detailed videos on individual parts of the lessons on RU-vid that could help you try them in your classroom. Maybe searching the Three Part Drill for example.
