Fr though. (Almost) All anime and video game movies flop because, despite the fact their source material isn’t held down by any reality, they always try to make it fit reality. That or it’s because they’re trying to squeeze hours worth of content into a 2 hour production (ex. The Last Airbender (live action)).

I’m annoyed that they have to over explain everything for the people that don’t play the games. I was there to watch people tear each other to shreds not to learn why there’s a mortal kombat tournament for the 15th time. Also jax’s superpower is making better metal arms. Just give him his metal arms to begin with!

Companies are justified in worrying that if you just start a movie like this assuming people already know the source material it might be confusing for some people, so a little explanation is okay, but most people going to see Mortal Kombat and other movies like this are fans of the series already or have a basic knowledge of what’s going on.

Outworld was filmed in a South Australian coal pit...and, funnily enough, looks 100% like a South Australian coal pit. But don't forget about all the other great locations in the film, like: a cave, a sandpit, a high school gymnasium, the desert, a hamburger joint, and a demountable home in Gary, Indiana.

yeah that would have been so much better and justified having the first in the series be a lead up to the tournament for the next film...also Sanada and Taslim were the only compelling actors in the movie (besides Kano) so it was brutal to sideline them.
