Bro! I was thinking of Godzilla when I was watching this video because of how impenetrable the birds’ feathers are and how they have chemicals to deter away hornets and bees! And your profile picture is of Godzilla! These birds are like Godzillas to the hornets and bees! It’s kind of coincidence id be thinking of Godzilla because of this to then find you in the comments!

@@aboomination897 Yeah, there was definitely an unarmored bird hitting those hives. Probably no food around, desperately taking those stings and showing it to it's buzzard chicks. I wonder how long it took. 100,000 years? 400,000 years? Over a million years? It typically takes around 150,000 years to develope a new species. I'm intrigued

@@doragonsureia7288 You can see that besides the feathers the beak has also turned into a much more average looking pecking beak opposed to the flash tearing raptor beaks. It even looks a bit like a dove with those even feathers.

@@thingserik7269 Birds get hungry and out of desperation start eating hornet larvae. Most all of the birds are repelled and die of hunger or from getting stung. A very few birds are not quite as bothered by the stings as the other birds, and they breed. Iterate this process over millions of years and you end up with the honey buzzard.

It looked like the last buzzard was swallowing the insects whole. They must be partially immune at least for them to be able to swallow a stinging insect live.

I doubt a single bee sting would kill any large animal (that doesn't go into anaphylactic shock, that is). Add to that, if the insect is crushed quickly enough in the mouth it might not get to shove its ovipositor (the stinger) into a vulnerable soft part quick enough.

@@AzurePrower Birds do have tongues, you know? Insect enters mouth, tongue presses against palate crushing insect. Insects are very easy to crush. (Edit: that should read 'many are'. But hymenoptera do not have the armour of a stag beetle for instance.)

@@neillynch_ecocidologist You cannot easily crush a bee with your tongue and it is way stronger than a birds. And it would have a nearly 100% success rate of stinging you if you tried.

I loved, firstly how clever the bee's were to realize it's pointless trying to do anything except go for the odd eye strike and they had all accepted what was happening was happening! And secondly, that final bird just contently looking around chewing larvae has gone beyond even visually registering the adult bees/hornets anymore - he literally just sees the larvae lol 😂

They are in Yorkshire, England too. Wondered about them getting stung but amazing nature has a solution for everything, as usual. Feathers did evolve from scales, so I guess this bird being, armoured, can be taken as evidence of that also.

@@feuerling I mean Vultures that scavenge carrion. Not hunters like hawks and falcons that pursue live prey. This bird in the video looks more like an active hunter to my eyes.

Those are not Asian giant hornets. While the anti-sting defences of the honey buzzard also work against giant hornets, those tend to nest underground, and they don’t look like the hornets here.

Yes! First you have hornets, then come buzzards feeding on them, next approaches a mammal with a camera filming the whole process for the purpose of making money or of educating other members of the species it belongs to; after this follow individuals who comment on that entire chain, before, perhaps, there will arrive other people, again, who even read such comments and are inspired by them.
