From the Soulful Tapestry LP (1971) There was a fade between the two parts originally, but it has been edited for a seamless transition. -uploaded in HD at www.TunesToTube...
This is a classic song that doesn’t really receive the recognition that it definitely deserves. Many people consider the Honey Cone a one hit wonder after WANT ADS but soul purists know better. Thank you for this.
Don't forget about STICK UP HIGHWAY ROBBERY, MONSTER HIT, and all those songs should've won Grammy's or whatever awards were handed out then what a crying shame cause they were a POWERHOUSE GROUP , EDNA RIP Don't know if there are any surviving members!!!!!!!
This is a great song, full of Energy. I have discovered it a few years ago, not when it was released. I didn't know the honey cone neither their other songs
This is for my sister Helen Munoz we lost way to doon this year in Febuary ,2021 she was in a lot of pain she's withe lord now she's longer in pain we miss you (Sis) your always in our hearts ♥💐♥ and prayers tell all the family we said hi in heaven (SiS) Love your baby sister Dorothy Munoz
This, is great music everyone should listen to this music. There, will never be music in the whole world like this again. The, 60's and 70's were two great decades for Music. The, music they have in the word today is nothing compared to the music of the 60's and the 70's.
It's also got the added joy of featuring two Willem who were also in the legendary backup group, The Blossoms (in total, there were appx 20 women who were Blossoms), and the reason was very simple; they were in such high demand, they couldn't possibly work all the sessions, AND also not cause irritable coal damage, so they were all able to give that gorgeous vocal sound the Blossoms had. Ms Darlene Love's sister's Edna, and she worked under the real last name, Wright. The Wright/Love sister's voices are so unmistakable - Edna sounds so close to Darlene just a slightly higher pitch.
I played the 45 RPM to death. Always have loved this song. It speaks SO MUCH to real life love affairs. Yep, Lou Rawls was right: Love Is A Hurting Thing; however, The Show Must Go On, and One Monkey Don't Stop No Show. -or, it shouldn't.
One monkey don't stop no show + stick up were my favorites, and I was in the first grade listening to these great songs, and I knew back then when I had no idea about music but I knew those songs were good, man Edna Wright RIP; had a great + powerful voice, and the other members were awesome as well, hey great songs real music good times!!!!
Yes to the brass AND that fabulous Latin percussion! I stumped Spotify with this song. The AI was just not keen enough to catch on. I even opened up a new Spotify acct with JUST this song on my account. No-go! LOL
I was surprised to see an interview with Carolyn, who said she, Edna and Shelley hated this song and didn't want to record it. I was 12 years old when it was released, and the song"s Latino vibe made it a huge hit in my hometown of San Antonio Texas.

Robert Amons it's because the so called singers of today rely on computerized garbage like autotune, thinking that's what makes them singers! There was a great plethora of girl groups like Honey Cone and The Supremes who relied on actual singing! This was what made the 70's much better! I recently got this on vinyl and am waiting for the CD to arrive! There'll never be another Edna Wright again..
Thank You Rod, I appreciate your reply you are right about the music in today's world it is nothing compared to the music of the 1960's and the 1970's.The 60's and the 70's were the two greatest decades for music for my generation. I, am 70 years old. I grew up in the 60's and the 70s with all of this great music.I, have a lot of fond memories for this music and my generation of this time. I, was born in 1950. There, will never be music like this again of my generation, we had the greatest music. I, Thank You Again so much for your reply.@@rodcharade5919
OMG, I haven't heard this song in years. I'm a 14 yo boy who played this song and dedicated this song to my ex-high school sweetheart who broke my heart when she cheated on me. "I LOVE YOU, BUT I COULD DO WITHOUT YOU.' Hear that...LISA CLARK! ....bitter much. Lol
It does exist because I have a reissue copy by a British label, Demon Records via the original imprint Hot Wax which was run by the team of Holland, Dozier, and Holland from Motown Records.
In the early 1970's my aggravating brother taped the microphone up to our tv speaker and recorded this great song...he was a pain in my side but this is a great and overlooked record...
@@Stefanthenautilus I haven't spoken to him in over twenty years...I had to walk away from a toxic family and I alone have discovered happiness and self honor.... this song and the Partridge Family's Album are all that remain...But records are forever and I still have that
Krystal, Your ex said the same about you. :) But, I believe YOU. I found this song on a very eclectic playlist, filled with lost classics & hidden gems. Hope you enjoy ru-vid.com/group/PL240940E21E6C83E3
The history behind this song is that the trio was reluctant to record it at first, but they were eventually persuaded to lay it down once and for all. This version is better because it should not have been broken into two parts
Mexipixels? It turns out that they do have a topic channel, but the audio quality of their songs are not as good on that channel as they are on your RU-vid channel.
Flows perfectly...loved this when it came out, and I always flipped my singles...won't say I played it anywhere near as much as the top deck, but always dug the mostly instrumental side...thanks for a very nice one
YOU HAVE S GOOD EAR. THIS IS THE FUNK BROTHERS. THEY WERE MOONLIGHTING, BECAUSE ACCORDING TO URBAN LEGEND MOTOWN WASN'T PAYING THESE GUYS ENOUGH TO SUBSTAIN THEIR FAMILIES.
Motown was busy moving to Los Angeles at this time, the Funk brothers weren't invited. They hooked up with Holland Dozier to make these big hits for Honey Cone. In 1972, Honey Cone outsold the Supremes.
