You asked for any helpful advice. One thing I noticed is how you blew out the frames. We built a stand with a slide. The box sits right side up at a slight angle. The bees come out of the bottom, and gently land in front of their entrance, and the march begins. It's alot more gentle on the bees, and less confusing to the bees with sticky wings and feet that can't fly so well. Hope it helps. The slide is made from stainless, and there's a mount for a backpack type blower. We hook a vacuum line (like you find at the car wash) to the blower for more dexterity at the wrist.
I'm a great grandfather now, and my own grandfather was a beekeeper although I am not, but always interested. I loved your comments on how a bee colony so expresses the work of our loving Creator.
Being a father of two sons I get a kick out of seeing the hive with your son’s frames. We have a desk in our home that I can’t part with because my oldest carved his name in the wood when he was about 5 years old.
@@colleenmcbride3656 Beautiful idea! My mom and her brothers are in the process of selling my nanny’s home and my mom said before it goes she has to replace door frames because she’s keeping the ones she marked my kids height on as they grew up. 🥰
Beekeeping is fascinating! I’m still astounded that you can use your bare hands to work with the hives and not get stung multiple times. I love your videos; keep up the great work!
I enjoyed your postings, my wife and i live in Costa Rica and are moving back to Texas next week. we have purchased five acres and watching you tend to your bees has motivated me and I intend on starting my own bee hives. I'm retired and looking forward to this new adventure. David Bure, Costa Rica
Need two more. Lol. I'm a commercial keeper with backyard boxes i just bought. 10 hives total. Only the most gentle genetics are coming home. 2500 colonies to choose from, and a really cool boss. So there it is. Welcome aboard!
I ordered a sawmill earlier this year and see honey bees in my future plans now. This channel has been much of an influence to have a more rural lifestyle.
My first year bee keeping this year I have watched your videos over and over to educate myself as best I can and can’t thank you enough for the knowledge.
Your parents sure raised you right - humble, curious and generous! Sure hope it's just impatience with the low yield. Lord knows patience is needed in beekeeping, watermelon harvesting, and raising children!! Many thanks for the highly informative and interesting videos!! God Bless!
I really liked this video. Your shared experience is greatly appreciated. The video of your son marking the frames was great and now you'll have that memory for as long as you have those frames. Thanks for all the videos.
My favorite box is the one you son wrote on...so precious along with great memories for you and your wife. As always, thank you for taking the time to share all your videos. God bless!
Thanks for your video and to learn how you do your harvesting. You asked for suggestions so here goes. 1. If you place a board across your plastic tote that catches your cappings it will give you something to rest your frames on at a more comfortable position. Also if you put a screws or nail in it from the bottom and allow a portion of it to protrude through the wood it will allow your frames to be held in a single position that keeps them from sliding off. 2. Have you tried using a bee escape or fume boards? 3. Have you thought about using two smaller tubs and do two processes at the same time? If you take a plastic tub, got mine from Sam's Club, and cut out the bottom of one of them, leaving a portion of the bottom to catch a piece of thin aluminum angle that has some screen wire attached to it. This allows the cappings to fall on the screen and be dripping while you are working on the next frames. The second tub which is the same size is below it and has a frame made to keep the upper tub from laying on the bottom of the lower tub. 4. Kamon Reynolds recently posted a plastic box he uses to harvest his frames with that has 10 locations to place the frames in with some space below to allow any comb that is hanging below the frame to not be smashed against the bottom. It was also wide enough that there was plenty of room for the odd thickness fat frames. It also had a vented lid that allows hot air to escape and to keep the bees from robbing. the tub was very pricey so I am thinking about finding a tub that will allow frames to rest on the sides and hold at least 10 frames. I am sure I can find one that will work that can have a piece of aluminum angle or wood attached to the side of the tub that the frames can rest on that would be made for less than 87 dollars plus shipping. Hope I didn't step on your toes. Good luck.
Have been watching your sawmill videos for awhile now and started following your honey vids since you took the swarm out of the tree in the spring. Ive learned a lot about bee keeping. Keep up the great work with the wood and the bees. God bless.
I just love watching you work your hives. I love your chill, relaxed commentary! Not pretentiousness bone in your body! My first year with bees. Thank you so very much from Ontario, Canada!
I remember seeing your son help you with the boxes. He sure did an excellent job. It will be lovely to see his handy work every time you look in that box
Tried bee keeping a few years back, but bees and horses do not mix. At least I tried, I enjoyed watching my bees doing their thing. Gave them to a keeper, which I passed weekly. When living in Colorado.
Another great example of God's handiwork as well as yours. Thank you for all you do to show the wonders of God's that are placed here for our use. Glad you mentioned the work your son did to help. M. Belinda Davis in NC
It’s so cool watching your older harvest, then this video, and seeing how you did the quality of life things you said you’d do, like the bucked with a hole for en masse cap draining!
Great video. The motor for the extractor makes a big difference. For the cappings, I use a paint straining bag and tie it on the rack in my extractor. It works really well .
I said it before and again now, you are a born teacher. I've watched a few other honey bee video's but they don't compare to yours. It's not just your words but also the video. My earliest memory of honey is being a small child with a sore throat. My mom mixed honey and warm water to sooth my throat. I actually have memory of being well again but telling my mom I should have more honey and warm water just to be sure.
Young man the best advice I can give you on your honey 🍯 is to listen to your little helper..lol and keep plenty of fresh hot biscuits around! Thanks for sharing your videos and God bless
Lots of work but nice rewards, had a couple of hives years ago, work got in the way. Once I retire plan on getting starting again. Thanks for the videos
I enjoy all of your content whether you are cutting logs or tending your hives! Learned it is a lot of science involved....watching you extract honey makes me want to make a batch of biscuits and dig into the honey jar!!!
I really appreciate your honesty in these videos; a lot of beekeeper content comes off as polished perfection which isn't really useful or approachable.
Watching you with the bees is so interesting. I'm really thinking seriously about getting some hives. Man, you are an expensive influence on me. First I had to order a sawmill after watching you with yours, and now the bees! lol
You are a Bee BRAINIAC!! How do you see the queen so fast?? I'm so impressed - love these videos!! Your son marking those frames - keep those FOREVER!!! Those are treasures 💞💞💞 This honey gathering is hard work - I never realized that. We buy this stuff called Bees Wax - the best polishing spray EVER - wood, mirrors, granite, glass - whatever. It's the BEST!!
I've always enjoyed the wood mizer videos but I've enjoyed the tractor videos too. Learned a lot from the bee keeping and honey extracting also. I like all the videos and been watching from the beginning so I do also hope I win a jar of honey, but if not just keep the videos coming, have a great week !
I never thought about Bee's or how they made honey but now I'm hooked and cant wait for next harvest. Honey just looks and tastes so...*mouth starts watering*
Go with your gut on the fresh start aspect. Sound logical that your harvest would be same color if all racks were started from the same point. Keep up the good work and keep praising the Lord for your harvest.
Watching the honey extraction, especially that light honey, and that nice light wax. Brings me back to time spent at my uncle's place. He always kept a container on the table with fresh honey from his back yard hives in the foothills north of Los Angeles. Excellent sage and wild flowers in the area.
also acknowledge cancer. Also before you say "cancer is caused by wifi and diet n' shiet", babies get cancer. And before you say it's a "test".That's a shitty thing to say, and those babies deserve better.
@@ivonastrukar4715 I don't know where you're coming from but I don't like your attitude one bit. Take your snide remarks to some other place, it's not wanted here.
Beautiful light honey! appears to be clover. Reminds me as a kid helping my Dad extract clover honey. put up to a light and how clear and perfect it was.
I really like watching the way you gather the honey from the hives. I knew where honey came from but just didnt know the process. Thanks and send me my jar! LOL
I always look forward to your videos. They are informative, interesting, and honest. My son is interested in beekeeping and I'm sharing your bee videos with him.
Winter stayed a little longer this year. You are probably as you said ( 2 weeks early ) I hope this is the case. Needed to go through your hives anyway 😎. And you made the decision, going to (pull the trigger) and get motor for extractor.Great video
Too late for the contest unfortunately, just wanted to say when I first started watching the channel I thought it was just about the wood mizer, but you're basically living the life I'm trying to find for myself damn near all of it. Thanks keep up the good work
Great job on the different tasks that you are doing on your videos. I just love watching the bees you have and the dedication you give to them. Keep the videos coming and God Bless.
Living in Florida and being from Vermont I am used to clover honey. Florida seem to like orange honey. Much prefer the honey from the north. As I had said in you last bee video, keep up the good work. We need to preserve the honey bees for the good of the world. God Bless
I made a research paper on honey bees and let me tell you this videos helped a-lot on my research and they beecame some of my favorite videos on RU-vid
I love watching you work with the bees. I have never done anything like that and I find it very interesting and educational. I like the rest of the farm stuff too. I guess I’m just a miss placed farm boy at heart.
