Honey locust jungle conversion to savanna starts off with a bang! We definitely have our work cut out for us on project. Makes it much more challenging when you're dealing with trees completely encapsulated with long sharp thorns.

Thanks for the video! It looks a lot better. It is so much cooler here today. The highs will be in the 70s for the rest of the week. We are still waiting for the power to come back on. We got a text that it should be on by 10pm tonight. The livestock are still in there area even with no power on with a single poly braid.

Swamp White Oak trees are Thornless. Missouri Agroforestry researcher Coggeshall's favorite Silvopasture tree is the White Swamp Oak which grows well in all five Missouri soil types. It does not grow large enough to create veneer quality timber, but does have a straight pyramid shape, grows quicker and is ready for harvest in 40 years providing good White oak lumber. The Missouri Agroforestry channel has a three part video with Coggeshall touting the benefits of this productive Silvopasture tree. Osage Orange trees are commonly called Hedge Apple trees. Before Barbed wire became common in the 1880s, Osage Orange trees were often planted to create living hedges to contain livestock.

In Bucks county, PA in the 1970's we had lots of Osage Orange trees. There are a few remaining that mom has me stop at in the fall to collect their fruit in the fall when we visit.

Also in the 1930s Dust Bowl days of drought and heat millions were planted as Wind breaks with some other tree varieties as a federal Soil Conservation jobs program.

Honey locust isnt a tree we have here in Ireland 🇮🇪 Is it any good for firewood or is it too much bother?
@Getawaymoments

It is very hard, burns very hot. I think it burns too hot for stoves. Native Americans used them for bows.

Greg those thorns can ruin a good pair of rubber boots. Years ago when I was bow hunting I was approaching my tree stand and I stepped down on a thorn that went clear through the sole of my boot. I was lucky it came through right between my big toe and the second toe that thorn was around 3 inches long. Greg just a suggestion maybe you should wear a hard sole boot and keep your Hisea boots for cleaner pastures? Greg is the Stihl 026 a Farm Boss model?
