Honey Smacks / Sugar Smacks (1953) 

This cereal still remains as my no.1 favorite cereal today. And thanks to this video, I now know that Dig em wasn't the only mascot to this cereal.

My wife swears Smacks (one of her favorites) is way better than Golden Crisp. I can't tell the difference between this or any generic version, but it is a favorite.

I would eat this cereal all the time! I am not a big honey liker like other people. But this cereal and it's honey made me crave it so much.

In my 20’s (when I had my first apartment) I used to keep a box or two in my cabinets. I never really ate it for breakfast, but whenever I’d watch TV at night and my “sweet tooth” acted up, I’d grab a handful-or three-and eat them like popcorn.

I remember this cereal back in the 80's and 90's and I remember a smacks dig'em flashlight with a mail in offer and I've kept it to this day and I still use it because it still works!!!!! I want another one. Buts that's the only prize I can't remember from that cereal :(

When I was a kid I always thought Sugar Smacks' mascot were a pair of frog twins because at the end of their commercials the Dig'em on the box would always come to life to smack ten to the other Dig'em.

In Denmark, they have always, in my years atleast, since the late 80s, been called Guldkorn, which translate to gold grains, or could also be gold nuggets.

It’s funny the things that shape our loyalty. Cereal is almost like beer in regards to the impact of its advertisement - and part of what makes me love it. If you’re familiar with NASCAR, I liked Kellogg’s driver Terry Labonte and so my allegiance to Kellogg’s was born. Honey Smacks over Golden Crisp any day of the week.

My family actually had a sugar smacks beach towels in the 80s. I don't know where it came from or where it went, but i remember the name change to honey smacks because I seen the towel all the time.

Golden Crisp and Honey Smacks are similar in ways but there is a big difference. Golden Crisp...when you bite into it it, the cereal itself crumbles like sugar. Honey Smacks is more puffier and softer and doesn't have the same effect as Golden Crisp. This is why i like Honey Smacks only, not Golden Crisp. Furthermore...both cereals are known to have more sugar in them than other cereals on the market. Check it out on Wiki.

Totally unrelated to smacks but still talking cereal, you should try the new nature valley cereal, more specifically their "oat bites" cereal. I just poured and dumped the bowl. It had the strangest consistency when hit by milk. I'm gonna assume they're made for dry consumption but hopefully this description has peaked your curiosity.

Sugar smacks and honey smacks are the same cereal. Kelloggs never claimed they were different, it was simply a name change because the word "sugar" was being removed from many cereals at the time. As far as the competing Post Golden Crisp (Sugar Crisp), I see no difference in taste from Kelloggs. Malt O Meal calls their version Golden Puffs, it cost less and taste the same.
