In California it's a critical fail on your test if you don't yield on an unprotected green light. I actually had to take my test twice for that reason. I failed my first test instantly coming out of the DMV parking lot.

I have your citation story beat big time! I was 18 on my way to college, had my car packed up to the brim, my parents car packed and my girlfriend's car packed. We were on our way to Tallahassee when we stopped to get food for the new apartment. I left earlier than the rest to reach the leasing office prior to it closing to get the keys. On my way, it started raining, and I mean RAINING. My back tires were bald, so I hydroplaned down into a ditch, flipping my car a total of 2 times. My younger brother was in the car with me (17yo), so I had to call my parents on the fireman's cell phone to tell them I flipped the car. They put me on a stretcher and took me to the hospital. While I was still on the stretcher, a FHP cop came in and put something on my chest and said " glad you're ok..." My mom had to come over and ask "what's this?" And it was a citation for "failure to use due caution to rain causing damage over $500"!!!!! The only thing damaged was my car, pride, and some grass in a ditch. Then, I had to pay the tow truck driver to KEEP my totaled car!! Quite a way to turn my wonderful day to one of the worst days ever
