I have had mine for a month, I love this unit, so easy to clean and disinfect; I do this weekly. I run it 24/7, use in winter only. On a daily basis, I fill water tank and always run the filter under cold water, (never soak it in bleach nor vinegar, its not recommended by manufacturer), flip filter with each fill, before replacing it. The instructions are pretty clear on how to. The filter is suppose to be wet, always, unless you're not going to use it and store it. In my opinion, anyone running into issues, has to be related to not cleaning and disinfecting regularly. I always did that with any other type humidifier and never had a problem with mold etc., with my old model, no longer made. Bought this one because a friend recommended it... so far no issues. Run it on low overnight, noiseless! During the day, on med. Personally, I can't see going months without cleaning it, that's asking for trouble. If I must replace a filter monthly, its worth it, since running it 24/7! I will try 3rd party filters, see if any difference, they are less expensive, not sure how they hold up. Only negative point, wish tank was a little bigger, still love it.

I have a question about this. So you run the filter under cold water for how long? How do you know when to stop because I’m still new

I have one of these humidifiers that I purchased from my local Home Hardware store in Canada & I'm happy with the unit; however, the hardware store does not carry the filters for the unit, nor can they order them, so I found filters on Amazon.

I'm writing as an FYI. I purchased this unit this afternoon, without reading any reviews. I needed one for dry indoor air in winter, and it was the right price at the big box store. I have a warm mist one for my mother. it is quiet and at the time about 5 years ago was very reasonably priced. It also stops working when the water level was too low. I have this unit and I'm not crazy about it at all. I can't find anything in the literature where it says it will turn off when empty. I did read that when water level is low the unit starts making noise!!!! The unit is already noisy right from the get go. It is not a quiet, hushed mist flowing out the top. It is a loud blowing noise that is too loud to have in the room with you. It is in my bedroom right now. I am in the living room. When I go to sleep, I will unplug it. It is too loud to ignore.
@normandperron2860
@normandperron2860 6 лет назад
DD To each his own, it’s really not that loud imo. I’ve seen others much much louder. Depends on which setting it’s on. Low is very quiet . It does what it’s supposed to do very well and that’s raise the humidity. I was at 22 and now I’m at 33, so very effective for my needs.

Do you get a cut from every unit they sell at Honeywell and Amazon? Just wondering because it is kind of hard to make a proper judgement call from any video that is being paid for endorsing a product. A bit of bias may be involved. To me the unit looks cheaply made and not like serious business. I have found no actual information or reviews regarding the 800 sq ft. the unit is supposed to cover. I need to center this between a living room and dining room to share both areas. I have used another cheap humidifier claiming 900 sq ft and the humidity in the rooms barely budged and went through gallons of water. There is no control to regulate the humidity at the desired level. I am a bit put off by presets. Thank you for the review... it made some good points. Still shopping.

Quick question; if I am going out of town for a few days, what should I do about the filter? I says it needs to stay wet but if I am not there to refill water, do I just let it soak in sitting water in tank for 3 days..? (Thanks for the review!)

@6MonthsLater

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Just keep it soaked, you can flip it every couple of days to try and prolong the life of the filter but after a while it'll get gross.

How can you tell if the UV light is working? I don't think we are supposed to plug in the "house" unless it's on the base with water. I don't see any light peeking out from the water tank when it's on. Should we be able to see the light?

So yeah, the fan keeps running, little maintenance and the water is used, so it must be working, right? No, from what I've read this humidifier does little to increase the humidity in the air, but isn't that what people buy humidifiers for?

I have the same humidifier in my kids room. I noticed that when I first bought if I can remember correctly theres a tiny light when turned on. The light was lime green. Now that I connected again after few months of not being used 3months ago. That light is not green its Orange can you tell me what that means? Should I clean or exchange the filter? Does that have anything to do with? I no longer have the instructions so I dont know why it turned orange.

Great video. Do you remove the filter daily and let it dry (to avoid mold)? Then flip it? I had seen other places the filter has to be wet to work? Do you wet it before each use? Will only be using at night..filter hopefully good for 60 days or so as you said...some including 1 commenter below said just a few weeks per filter. That gets expensive. Thanks for any info. Thinking of buying this but unsure how much daily work is involved.
@6MonthsLater
@6MonthsLater 5 лет назад
Thanks! Nope, I just keep it wet and don’t let it dry out. Letting it dry out is what makes it crusty and gross in my experience. I just flip it if one part starts getting a little discolored from the water. I haven’t actually found any mold or anything in mine. So far the maintance on it has been fine in my experience. Though it also depends on factors in your home etc.

How long does it take for the water to run out if ran on high?
@6MonthsLater
@6MonthsLater 6 лет назад
Depends on how humid the air already is and how new the filter is. If the filter is new and the air is relatively dry (>40%) I'm typically replacing the water every 12 hours. If the air is more humid, expect to fill it up less frequent.
@purdygirl1748
@purdygirl1748 6 лет назад

@6MonthsLater
@6MonthsLater 6 лет назад
It could be that your filter had gotten old or the air already has quite a bit of water vapor in it, which would slow down the rate of evaporation from the humidifier.
@andygriesemer
@andygriesemer 6 лет назад
I've been dealing with the same problem. The air is very dry and I had a filter dry up after what seemed like only a week of use. Replacing it after one week seemed ridiculous. After researching around, it sounds like the wick/filter needs to be submerged in water and/or flipped each day. If it dried out and feels crusty, it won't disperse water from the tank. And it will blow pieces of filter into your room (white dust). You have to keep the wick wet all the time to prevent those things.

I thought I had done my research and was grateful for your review but I think you need to update it as the Honeywell Cool Mist Humidifier I have just purchased is completely different than the model in your review. I am in the U.K. which might be relevant...but the product I bought is the Honeywell Cool Mist humidifier so thought it was the same product. This one has a different type of filter altogether. Your review was great and I think the idea of reviews after six months of use a fantastic idea. But maybe need to make sure as time goes by the product hasn’t been redesigned. (Your review 2017, I purchased in Dec 2020).

He got paid. None of what he said is true. I tried everything with humidifier and the most the manufacturer original filter would last without getting moldy was one week. I tried even boiled then cooled water and still got moldy. The UV light is a joke. True I did not tried the distilled water because then it would be too expensive to buy at least two gallons of water daily for a low setting running straight 24 hours. Imaging running full blast! When the filter got "crusty on top rim I would mix equal parts of water and vinegar and soak the filter for about an hour. Then rinse. The first time I did this, i did in a large pot deep enough to sumerge the filter, rinse and squeeze the excess water out of it. Big huge mistake! The whole thing just fell apart. So the next one I soaked in a perfectly fit container so it wouldn't fold down. so far so good but then 2 days later the filter got moldy so I decided to remove the mold by sumerging the filter in water mixed with a full bottle cap of clorox bleach then to remove the bleach smell I used oxi-clean. Boy the whole thing just disintegrated to pieces. Too much hassle. Now I'm looking for a new filterless humidifier. The way I see it the UV light does not work, is just a gimmick, what probably works for the filter not to get moldy is because is coated with anti-mold product but once you wash it or bleach it, Adios muchachos, no more anti-mold agent left. I'm surprised this thing is out there for sale. Come to think of it, this thing is dangerous, the reason we knew the filter was moldy, was the musty smell every time we entered the bedroom. But before that happened, how long has it been since it became moldy?
@6MonthsLater
@6MonthsLater 6 лет назад
Did you call Honeywell about your issues? I've never experienced mold in my filter. Some occasional pink slime, but that's it. According to this guide, some tap water contains mineral deposits that are more prone to growing mold, so that could be one explanation: homeguides.sfgate.com/kill-humidifier-mold-82791.html I'd give Honeywell a call and see what they say.
@thetechgenie7374

onezavalar What keep the filters from getting moldy beside weekly cleaning is Best Air bacteriostatic humidifier treatment, usually use 1oz to a gallon of water. I only go though two filter a winter season for my Aircare humidifier and haven’t had any mold at all. The Honeywell humidifier is ok in this video but filters are overpriced and don’t last as long as my Air Care unit. The best humidifier is the Air Care as tried over a dozen humidifiers and only one that actually bought the humidity up to a reasonable level during the winter. Stay away from ultrasonic humidifiers as seals don’t hold up due to vibrations of piezo element and seal breaks around the edge and they end up leaking over time and over humidify to much in one small bacteriostatic humidifier birds area and not effective in large areas and don’t bring the humidity pass 10% above current humidity.
@Zeppelinlv2007
@Zeppelinlv2007 5 лет назад
@@thetechgenie7374 Thanks for the suggestion. How often do you add the bacteriostatic treatment to your humidifier? I would like to get a humidifier, but seeing all these people get moldy wicks scare me. I'd probably get so paranoid that I would add bleach to the water everyday.
