Hong Kong’s Mafia-Like “Triads” Are Terrifying Pro-Democracy Protesters

China’s Ministry of National Defense reminded Hong Kong residents Wednesday that the People’s Liberation Army could mobilize to “maintain social order” at the request of the island's government.
The statement serves as a warning to protesters who defaced China’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong on Sunday, at the end of yet another mass march against an extradition bill that could allow the Communist Party to undermine the island's independent judiciary.
China’s patience with protestors is wearing thin: The foreign ministry blamed the U.S. for meddling in Hong Kong, and CCTV, the government-run broadcaster, spent nearly a third of its Monday-evening broadcast admonishing the “radical demonstrators” who vandalized the liaison office.
Nowhere did their primetime broadcast mention a group of around 100 thugs who stormed a subway station in Yuen Long, assaulting people with wooden sticks and iron signs as they returned home from the protests downtown. At least 45 people were injured in the attacks.

“The train was still here and not moving, so we were stuck inside,” Tommy Tse, a protestor and witness to the violence, told VICE News. “Those white-shirt, violent people were attacking the people in the train. While I am a great of of Xi Jinping, I am not a fan of very old school communist tactics. we live in the 21st century. The protest in Hong Kong were justified as long as they stayed non-violent. However, when the HK government and some rich and powerful thought it a good idea to employ the Triads to hit the protestors, this was a big mistake, because the common people of HK do support peaceful protests as an expression of democracy. I doubt very much, that Terry Lam can this peacefully, as she is not free to decide, and as she represents the rich and powerful in HK. She will have to go...

The HK police is " in " on this attack; local police precinct in the area even rolled down the security gate in preventing victims seeking help during the attack. These in-discriminatory attacks include pregnant woman; infants and the elderlies. When confronted by the press right after the attacks; the commander of the local police precinct denied sightings of these armed thugs even when one happened to walk pass him; weapon in hand during the interview. There are now calls within the local communities to form security groups for their own protection. I call on all democratically elected governments on earth to voice out against these despicable violence by the Beijing backed Hong Kong regime. More importantly; raising a high alert for all their travelling citizens into the region. The Hong Kong police is not to be trusted to uphold law and order. This is the death of a city.

The fact that some of them used the racist Japanese word 支那 to refer to the whole of the Chinese people (and its intended usage included the hong kongers at the time as well) really made me, a mainlander, lost some sympathy for these protesters, although I understand that this, like the other more controversial acts, does not represent the whole of the protesters and their concerns for their identity and future. It still pissed me off a little to see them fight wrongs with wrongs, like hanging the colonial era flag in the parliment, which represented a government that employed oppressive policies againsted its subjects around the globed (Hong Kong included) and of course racist slogan like the aformentioned one.

You're being naive. What makes you think this racist word wasn't planted there as propaganda to achieve exact the reaction you had? Those who lived through the Vietnam protest period in the United States know these COINTELPRO tactics of misinformation and false flag dirty tricks well. You were told it was put there by a protester and simply accept this explanation without question? Use your brain - why would the people of Hong Kong use a racist term that was applied to them as well during World War II, when they experienced the same privations and abuse from the Japanese occupiers everyone else in China did? Many people in Mainland China in the Guangzhou region are ethnically very close to Hong Kongers, and speak the same Cantonese language. Claiming Hong Kongers are racist against themselves is a nonsensical assertion.

Probably because not many western people are literate enough in Chinese to notice it? Also, even if they were, to a western eye, it would simply seem to be a direct cognate for 'China', and would cause no suspicion of racism. Only a western journalist with a deep fluency in Chinese and an extensive knowledge of Sino-Japanese history (even that term there utilises the same epithet in its westernised form) would be aware of it - and still be confused as to how a word we use as the established form of a nation's name - derived directly from the Latin word Sinae - came to be viewed so differently when written by someone of Japanese ethnicity - as if it were only 'racist' when Japanese people use a term created by a Roman. Not surprising that it might be overlooked in a short report by youth journalists.

Yuen Long is a working class district of the New Territory in Hong Kong near the border of the Mainland . The Triads are very active there , drugs ,prostitution , protection rackets , night clubs , karaoke bars , massage parlours, illegal gambling , loan sharing etc..... They prey on the local people there and the police turns a blind eye mainly if the violence is kept to the minimum because they are part of the local economy. Weekend demonstrations in those areas affects “ business “ Shops has to close , punters stays indoors when weekends are the time “ business “ is done . The locals were warned days ago this was going to happen and if they don’t want to be hurt to stay out of certain areas , the police were in on it and they took off as soon as those thugs arrived . It is back to the dark times of the fifties and sixties when Triads and police are one and the same . The British authorities turned a blind eye then too as long as they get their kickbacks from the racketeering and they were informed and approved of any violence in advance . Raids and arrests were prearranged to pretend the police were fighting crime , low ranked Triad members take turns going to prison and wear it as a badge of honour when they are out . Hong Kong is screwed if the criminals are the authorities and the authorities are the criminals .

*CHINA'S GOVERNMENT IS A DEMOCRACY* Let’s look at the definition of democracy: Democracy is a political system that allows the citizens to participate in political decision‐making, or to elect representatives to government bodies. (Oxford Dictionary) Here’s how democracy works in China: China’s citizens vote for their representatives at the village level. Then these representatives vote for the next level from among them. And that process continues to the level of National People’s Congress. That’s democracy. It may not look the same as the US version of democracy, but it is democracy none the less. And it has an advantage compared to the US version of democracy: most voters know the candidates personally, at all levels of voting. The candidates who compete at village level are known personally to the villagers who vote. Then, the elected village committee members know who they are voting to the next level because they have been working together in the village committee. And this process goes on all the way to the national level elections. In Hong Kong, the elected Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam will able to vote for next level (after full return of HK to China) for People's Congresses and the next level the People's Congresses will elect up to the National People's Congress. Since the voters know all candidates at each level of voting, they get to choose the best candidates all the way to the national level. The US version is different. Most voters do not know the candidates personally. Voters only know the candidates from afar. So those who can campaign well wins, even though they may not be the best for the job. The other difference is that China’s version of democracy gets everyone to work together as a team. There is no opposition. The US version, on the other hand, splits the elected candidates into two teams who spend a lot of time fighting each other, that they have less time to get something done.

So, I take it you don't have the clip then? No? I thought not. No one (not the CIA, not Mossad, not anybody) can get rent-a-crowds that big for that long in scorching summer to risk a broken skull unless enough people ACTUALLY want to be there. Is the CIA above renting crowds - no, but they aren't miracle workers, either. The U.S.A. failed miserably in Venezuela recently. It happens if there isn't enough support for protests, or the movement is fragmented. If anything, the protests seem to be getting more intense, not less. At some point you have to use common sense in assessing what the public mood actually is in between all the propaganda.
