I was 7 years old in 1965. It brings back my childhood memory of old Hong Kong , most of the scenes were taken in Wanchai, Central and Sheung Wan.

Perhaps THE greatest city in the world. Of course, I live there 3 months of the year, so I'm biased...but the energy is undeniable and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Shot in the late 60s, not 1965. The scenes are nostalgically precious

I appreciate your comment. Why do you think it‘s shot in the late 60s? Any landmark building or car model or how did you figure out? Referring to my documentation it must habe been 65.

HaraldReportagen Thanks for your interesting question, i like to point out that at 1:33, a mao zedong propaganda portrait in which the chinese characters said "chairman mao oversee the march of the 8th parade of cultural revolution guards", this historical event took place in november 1966; then at 1:43, the tram that carried a deck trailer was deployed by 'hongkong tramways' as early as january 1966, based on these two scenes, i think that the video can only be shot after november 1966.

Yes, I think KC T is correct, it is not 1965.

I see Christmas decorations at 1:40-1:43, maybe this film was shot in December, 1966.

I found the video is so good but I want to point out that the video was shot in 1965 as I can see a movie poster 我女若蘭(Orchids and My Love) and the film was shown not until 1966.

The ambient was so different in 1965 and did look gloomy in those days. Many store names and buildings were not familiar but specialty food stores looked huge and hanging with all kind of dry delicacy items.

It seemed the period (presumably 1966) was prosperous and peace but not until the next year 1967.

Agree, in 1965, cultural revolution not yet influented in Hong Kong, I believe this film was taken in 1966.

to be true, the high rise building is annoying, it ruin the beautiful scenery, to be honest, in the past, when someone stood at victoria peak, the scenery is magnificent, majestic, one can see the whole land, the sea, the sky and mountain. but now the tall rise building blocks the view and ruin the scenery. it maybe good or needed for economy. but at the same time over building does ruin. economic development has to pay price

I was eight. I like the memories of the streets, but poverty and foreign rule were quite unpleasant yet were better than China at the time. Now China is in resurgence; Hong Kong is wealthy and almost self-rule with a great deal of autonomy. The past was like a nightmare; now Hong Kong is a much better place to live, and the motherland extends it warm welcome.

Hong Kong is a much worse place to live now. Hard work does not pay off anymore. The average person cannot afford reasonable housing. The communist regime creates chaos and people are very unhappy. People may be poor in the 1960s but there's always hope to get better from working hard, sadly no more hope today.

@@raymondyeung2791 You don't really need that much money for emigration; the easy door is wide open now in Canada; anyone can come over so long as you are not looking for a high-paid job and not afraid of the bitter cold winter! So many immigrant Chinese doesn't speak a word of English live in Toronto!
