It definitely has heavy final fantasy vibes in it so it's probably why

I got the same feeling. It does have the vibe of a lot of those 90s JRPGs, typically after an emotional major plot point like an important character's sacrifice of betrayal. Also I think it really, really sounds like a song that would be featured in 90s films, one that immediately comes to mind is Schindler's List. That's probably where the nostalgia mainly came from.

Idk if you also played kingdom hearts but this song gives insane kingdom hearts vibes. Probably square enix games in general
