"Honky Tonk Train Blues", here in the rendition of Mr. Ulf Johansson Werre and Mr. Joan Chamorro; Mr. Chamorro being the leader and mentor to these three young ladies: Èlia Bastida, Alba Armengou and Alba Esteban, all four from Spain. Mr Ulf Johansson Werre keeps the beat on the piano and Mr. Oscar Johansson Werre, the percussionist, adds on for the swing. Quoted from Wikipedia: ""Honky Tonk Train Blues" is a song written by Meade Lux Lewis, and first recorded in 1927. A proto boogie-woogie song, it has many of the traits that would come to be identified with rock and roll. It is also the first recorded use of the term "honky tonk" in a song. The single, when first released, sold poorly, and Lux ended up working in a car wash for a living, it was later heard by John Hammond, who found Lux and hired him to record the song again, initially releasing it in Europe. In 1937 he re-recorded it again, releasing the song in the US, where it was a hit, subsequently touring the country in a series of concerts that helped popularize boogie-woogie.
It has gone on to be recorded in various contexts, often in a big band arrangement. Early recordings of the piece by artists other than Lewis include performances by Adrian Rollini, Frankie Trumbauer, classical harpsichordist Sylvia Marlowe, theater organist George Wright (with drummer Cozy Cole, under the title "Organ Boogie"), and Bob Zurke with Bob Crosby's orchestra." This event that graced the small community of Skene, Sweden, November 27th, 2021, was made possible by a generous promotor of young musicians, Bror Martin Sandberg, with the help of other sponsors, this being the first day of a 4-day tour; Skene, Lerum, JazzClub Fasching in Stockholm and Västerås, all in Sweden. This constellation of artists met for their first time this same day, had a short rehearsal, and gave a full 2-set concert in the evening. A small, but discerning audience found their way to this very nice "House of Culture". There is a chance that the Polar Price committee might consider the effort of these young artists and their mentor. The good stuff needs backing! Videographed with a hand-held SONY HandyCam FDR-AX100 in FX quality mode. Enjoy!
