HONOLULU HAWAII 1969 TRAVELOGUE WITH JACK DOUGLAS 32600 HD 

My dad was navy so we got there in '59 when I was 8 and left in '63, I only got back in 2007 and it was different, the Dole Pineapple structure was gone and so many wild places were filled up with homes etc. We lived by the Bloch arena Pearl Harbor area, when I got back the same monkey pod tree that I spent tons of time in was still there and the smell of that small area brought back instant memories, it was truly remarkable to reconnect w/ my parents just from a smell. I used to dream of that area, I had a nice uke and lots of playmates. My husband was part tahitian and told me his uncle had a prominent last name and I found his name on a travel brochure on the plane. I wanted to live there and had the money, but my inner voice said I'd miss my son, so I stayed here in Utah instead back in 2007, my friend had a friend that lived there and they had a room mate for me etc. It's so cold here, but my tiny family is here so I stay put.

That last scene in the video was a prophetic one, about the two million visitors. Before the Pandemic, seven million tourists visited Hawai’i. Aloha 🤙🏼

Hyatt squashed the Market Place which was the ❤️ of Waikiki. Shame.

I was born 4 years after this film was made, and save 4 years that I lived in California, I’ve been here...and I live smack dab in the middle of Honolulu, just 1.5 miles from Waikiki and I’m practically next to the University of Hawai’i...and I still don’t get caught up in the hustle ‘n bustle. I don’t quite get what people mean by that...other than the traffic, everyday existence is so much slower and more laid back than even living in Fresno, CA. I was fortunate that our parents had good foresight, ‘cause I don’t know how people afford to live here...that’s the only thing about living in Hawai’i. Back in 1960, our parents bought a duplex (3-bedroom/1-bath on top, and 2-bed/1-bath on bot; completely separate units) in Kaimuki for $50K...and their whole intent was so that my brother and I wouldn’t have to be stuck with lifetime mortgages...so now that I’m nearing 50, and he’s almost 45, we can live comfortably. But it did blow my mind when our place was appraised at over $1.1 million, since our place is a very average home, and in a very average neighborhood. Hopefully, by the time you move here, our rail system will be pau 😉 and you won’t have to sit in this horrible traffic. 😁

The international market place has been COMPLETELY Transformed into a luxury shopping center it’s massive!

Yeah, the International Marketplace isn’t the same grungy place it used to be...but you can find all of those vendors at the Swap Meet now. But just because we’re in the 21st Century now, doesn’t mean that our Aloha Spirit is gone...it’s still everywhere, and it’s still a very diverse state. John, if you ever choose to come back to your motherland (I pay attention, Keoni 🤙🏽), it’ll always be here and you’ll be welcomed back with open arms. Mum, Dad and I had friends there, and Mom taught Art at the school as well as alot of School's and seperate lessons, the Outdoor Circle included, she was so talented, gifted and very well known in the Island's, .. I am so looking forward to coming Home🌺..at some point anyway Lol, the Mana filled Islands will always be that for me..🌺Home!🌴🌊🌴😁 We lived in Kailua (Liku St.) Then Kaneohe (MioMio Loop)for awhile till moving to Waikiki (3006 Pualei circle, Gregg Apts) it was great waking up in the early morning to all the animals at the Zoo saying 😁good morning💖😅 Dad and me would trip down to the beach early 6am where he would get in a long swim before work, I'd play in the sand and sea close to shore and eventually swim and walk to meet him at Fort DeRussy, walk home eat he'd go to work Mum and I would go all around the Island meeting with other artist friends, that was really special for me..don't know why, but it felt good inside you know? I have some of her Paintings, alot of newspaper articles on her, a bunch of photo's, one day I'd like to have a small Artshop again like Mom had...with a beachy/funky feel, really local🎶 something that say's Mahalo for all the Love the Sand and Sea has given to all of us💖🌺🌴🌊🌴🎶 ..lol I really should have jumped off the deck of that ship when I had the mind to back in '67 when Mum and I left to move to Vancouver BC, while Dad stayed till he retired in '73, after he moved up with us he passed two years later at 67, then Mum 5 years after at 55...both were so young! whenever i feel any hustle and bustle-ness, and am very sad i swear I hear and feel Hawai`i calling me up to check in with pure Love!..it's such a great feeling and I can smell Plumeria and other smells when I was little, of Mum, Dad and all my friends and fun, it makes things just a little bit better, a different sad..maybe a happy sad, ...oh man I'm sorry for talkin' your ear off, Sean ..easy to yak 'n yak.. especially when comfortable with someone..Mahalo🌺💖

I told my friends that if I ever got 300 subscribers that I would start making videos on RU-vid. So I’ll probably start uploading videos this summer...mostly making vlogs about life in Honolulu, please I love to go, things I love to do, foods I love to eat, and hikes I love to go on. Hawai’i climate is best

Ummmmmmm...no. The building under construction at 5:56 remained an unfinished steel skeleton for several years in the 1960s due to running out of money before it was eventually completed with different financing. A better clue to the actual date of this footage is the Waikiki Business Plaza building under construction at 1:16 in the center of the scene; this was finished and opened in 1965. And the small building containing the HATS office that the couple walks into had been demolished by 1969 for the Surfrider wing of the Moana Hotel; this opened in late 1969.

I would say this definitely looks earlier than 1969. Not a shaggy degenerate in sight .
