Dr. Carlos Castaneda was an anthropologist, visionary and author whose work continues to resonate and live on.
During the 1960’s Castaneda developed a unique relationship with a Yaqui Indian leader, who infused him with the knowledge of the shamans of ancient Mexico, a practical type of shamanism focused on the development of one’s attention and energy in order to liberate perception and regain vitality in life.
We (Aerin and Miles) met Castaneda in the mid 1990s and became his direct apprentices.
Atlantean1
We were part of a small group who knew him personally and intimately, and from whom we learned how to adapt these ancient shamanic teachings to our modern needs, to expand our consciousness and to re-establish our link to the universe at large.
Castaneda changed completely the direction of our lives, and we are immensely grateful for the opportunity to learn to see the world in a different, more expansive and encompassing way. Castaneda taught us to shift our consciousness to the heart, a shift of the assemblage point, as he used to say. That means having our heart as the main center for perception, as a brain that communicates at a higher speed and reaches out farther than our rational mind.
An integral part of our training with Castaneda involved the daily practice of specialized movements by which the mind becomes more open and fluid and the body stronger and more vital.
“I (Miles) was a young medical doctor from Argentina when I met him, and I was trying to find my place as a healer and as a person. Serendipitous events led me to meet him and at the onset he said there was a reason for our encounter, that one day I was to bridge science and shamanism.
My apprenticeship under his tutelage was a 24/7 demonstration of what it means to be fully available to life as it is meant to be for all of us. He taught me hundreds of movements that had been part of the ancient legacy he had learned, and asked me to demonstrate and teach them to the public. My memory of him, even today, is intrinsically intertwined with the vitality he exuded and the love he had for these movements. Castaneda taught me discipline, elegance and what it means giving one’s best, and then some more.”
In body, mind and spirit Castaneda was an unparalleled role model. His curiosity, sense of humor, expansive mind, and generous heart are beyond any words we could use to describe them. What was most striking for us was that there was no distance between his actions and his words. He lived the legacy of the ancient sages with humbleness and sobriety. His unbending purpose for freedom from pseudo idealities has been a great source of inspiration for us.
“In my case (Aerin), I was in my early twenties when I met him and I felt limited by my interpretations of the world and my upbringing. I couldn’t find a way to feel connected to people; I was depressed and lonely, struggling to fit into a cold world.
Castaneda guided me to gather energy through the practice of movements and recapitulation, to suspend my negative self-talk and long-term negative habits. He inspired and supported me to educate my mind with science and literature. And he taught me to shift my center of perception to my heart by, first, learning to love the trees in his house. For four years I was invited daily to practice movements for long hours and to learn to prune and nurture his trees. By learning to care for nature, I learned to care for others and myself. That was the first step on shifting my consciousness to a higher purpose.”
Castaneda urged us to find our own way of living the teachings, to validate things through our own practice and experience; to not take anything for granted, to find what we loved and to follow and share with others the possibilities of paths with heart.
Being Energy® is part of the continuation of this legacy. As Castaneda’s students, we are compelled to share the tools, practices and deep understanding that he gave to us, and to flow and grow as he instructed.
Aerin Alexander and Dr. Miles Reid

Reading Castaneda led me to an ancient artifact that was waiting for me on my own land, I didn't ever notice it because I never thought to enter a child like state and just explore difficult to reach places. The inspiration and dreams that came as a result have clarified my purpose and mission on earth. It is nice to see these kind folks 😀 who have been touched by his work so positively as well! I can only imagine how wonderful it would have been to have known him

You may also feel that all horoscope predictions (all 12 of them at any one time given by any astrology leader) make sense and seem natural. That's because you're a seeker. And no doubt you'll always find something sensible, if you seek hard enough.

I have all Castaneda's books, I believe 13 in all. No other set of books has so profoundly affected me. Decades ago I wrote to Carlos from hospital in the UK and he very kindly sent me a handwritten response which, I'm sorry to say, I didn't eventually keep. I am fascinated by these accounts by individuals who have actually met him.

Castaneda came to interview my Guru, Swami Muktananda. The conversation is in the book, In The Company of a Siddha. Many other very interesting conversations are included in this rare collection of interviews with a Master of Siddha Yoga, the ultimate in spiritual traditions.

Worth to watch. Those 4 enemies are fear, clarity, power, old age. After fear one start to see more clearly things and that gives clarity, clarity gives you power that eventually you dont know what to do whit it and then old age. Im not saying the way Miles presented are wrong, also work that way

Wow Im glad I found this video on RU-vid to hear what I really imagined Castañeda would be like. After reading the Amy Wallace book I was disappointed but it seems that Mrs Wallace might of had her agenda to difame Castañeda. None of it really mattered because to me it was always about don Juan. Castañeda was just the messenger.

Hey Out There... I Allways wonder why Carlos Castanedas got so sick in the end of his life... Maybe because it is in many ways hard to live like a Shaman. And it was hard for Castanedas to give up his city life. He knew how to live like Juan Matus but he stay in the city and keep on doing what People do... My dream dream me, that why l am here... ❤️❤️❤️
@Mousehansen

He got sick because he was an alcoholic, simple as that. All the wizardry in the world can't save a liver saturated and destroyed by alcohol.

hey many grethings for Christmas I really like to meet both of you in the future,herd what Aerin she said about how she knew the books of Castaneda,is really interesting, it was different for me I found the book (the fire from within) next to my bed in my room after returning from three months working in a seaside resort, I was having always been fond of reading, of course I read it and from that moment I think I have read it 7 times in the following years (86-87-88) and I started to buy them all up to Tensegrity that allowed me to learn the details pragmatists energy concepts. Thanks to Miles' videos on the recapitulation, greetings

17:02 This! I’m half way through Castenadas series of books and I’m becoming more and more convinced of the striking similarities to the teachings and methods of G.I. Gurdjieff. If you haven’t heard of this great past master I highly recommended a free audiobook book here on YT called In Search of the Miraculous.

@solartonytony5868
@solartonytony5868 5 лет назад
not different or another part ... the universe is energy first, then objects ... tensegrity is the name for the practice of physical body/arms/legs movements that among others things, stop the internal dialogue ....

Any doubts I have about Castaneda come from watching videos from/with his personal students. Somehow I can't see a Don Juan spending time teaching these folk anything. This is not a criticism of these people as human beings. Many of them may well be better people with more personal power than I have but I never see anything in these folk that reminds me of his books and DJ's description of "warrior" or even apprentice. Sorry folks if I pricked anyone's feelings but whatever. That's not my problem. I'm just sayin what I'm seein.

john miller I know what you are talking about. They depiction of Don Juan is one of intensity, of piercing ferocity born of true compassion, of unadulterated gnosis. Many folk drawn into new age belief systems are also drawn towards castenada’s teachings, yet studying the books shows very little crossover, other than the four agreements ( though I would state the ruthlessness of those tenets is very different than the obsession with one aspect of duality (positive) found in many new age circles). Still, do not confuse the attraction to do Juan’s personality (which he clearly was exercising stalking in nearly every moment, very deliberate behaviours to induce specific effects in Carlos), with the message in the books. By that I mean, you really must be face to face with a person to intuit their personal quirks. Rather futile to attach your mind to others in any way, especially in judgement. For me, it is that EVERY student of Carlos, comes at it from a new age seeker, not from the original people’s traditions. Some of us who are drawn to this, particularly because it is devoid of that fluffy new age jargon, and instead demands formidable respect and awe in the face of the great mystery. He never cringed from using harsh ruthless language, or from violent disruption, or histrionics to shock. The problem with 2nd hand information (all religions suffer this even a century after creation......how much more so now) is that we always inject our personal take on it.... which from r some can also be what is right with it :) . For those of us with a slightly more negatively oriented programming ( astrological in origin, polar as in electricity, not human interpretation/emotion), we are drawn to Don Juan, and his lack of using jargon we’ve heard watered down from eastern cultures. It’s a breath of fresh air, especially for those who seek to really engage more with their own positive masculine qualities. I think these two shine forth much more than any other of his students I’ve seen. Quite a lovely group. Criticism is easy. Peace.
